A really lovely local country pub; many locals here giving the pub a true community atmosphere. Very dog friendly. Good beer, and the staff even friendlier than the dogs. On Sundays, they just serve roasts, but they accommodated us by serving delicious stuffing balls as a special favour. There is a roaring log fire and a comfy sofa, and sweeping views. Highly recommended.

A lovely pub with friendly staff and good food, served swiftly and efficiently. We had been on a long uphill walk to get there, and were very glad to be able to sit at a window table and look at the wonderful view. Will definitely return when we are in the area again. There was a huge log fire in the other room which would be great to sit near on a cold winter day.

We had a Sunday roast and it was so disappointing. The meat was really dry, the roast potatoes were rock hard and tasted old, and the veg was bland. The Yorkshire pudding was fine. I did mention that the roast potatoes were uneditable but the waitress just said "oh are they" and took the plates away. Such a shame, the reviews from other people were so good, maybe they had something different to eat.

We came here as a family of 5 for food and drinks on our break to Newton Abbot. We entered and were taken to our table, asked if we wanted drinks and ordered food quite quickly. The drinks came out and food came out, the food was lovely, good portions, we all enjoyed it up to this point…. However once our food came out it was then as though we were invisible, nobody asked if everything was ok with our meals, if we wanted another drink. We sat there for half an hour with empty plates and empty glasses. Having decided that this was enough we all got up to leave and pay at the bar. We would’ve had desserts if we’d been offered, overall experience brought down by the poor overall service.

This is our local so I’m probably a bit biased but anyway…….. We were delighted when Mike, the landlord, told us that he had a new chef arriving and last night decided to give it a go. The menu is exactly what you’d expect to find with something for everyone, plus a couple of specials. We opted for the whitebait and garlic mushrooms to start…… clear plates all round. Mains were the Palk burger with all the trimmings and the fish & shrimp curry special. The burger was as good as remembered and the ‘special’ was indeed special for all the right reasons. All this, a roaring log fire and glorious real ale…… even if it wasn’t our local, we’d be back!

A proper, unpretentious locals' village pub. So pleased for them that they have secured a chef and fully booked today. Cosy bar with log burner leading to a back room with log burner and pool table with dining area beyond. Wonderful countryside views and rear garden. So yes I'm a local and yes I love The Palk Arms under Mike and Sadie Rowland. However, during lockdown things did not stand still! A new kitchen, a new business partner - the lovely Dan Sennit, a refurb inside and out, and NEW PORTUGUESE CHEF- Guss, all bring a freshness and excitement to wonderful pubs drinking and dining experience. The menu has many of the traditional dishes you would expect on a pub menu - steak and ale pie, fish & chips, burgers & steaks, all beautifully cooked and presented. However, Guss has also included some of his own Portuguese favourites, Peri peri chicken, meat croquettes, whitebait and Portuguese steak with beer sauce, again all cooked with mouth watering finesse. We had lunch this week. My veggie husband had creamed garlic mushrooms and a vegetable curry, both delicious with good quality ingredients. I opted for calamari, which was the best ever baby squid not those bland rings that you so often get. With scampi as a main, I couldn't face desert....this time.I'm told the menu will evolve, that this is just the start and I can't wait to see what appears. The food is all cooked fresh to order so relax and enjoy the priceless views of the Teign Valley while you enjoy the ales, ciders or whatever might be your tipple, Its a beautiful place to be.

We all enjoyed a tasty, reasonably priced breakfast. Service took a while but that was explained to us and they were very busy. Good sized portions; my Eggs Royale (with smoked salmon) was delicious. Quite a noisy space, difficult to hear at times, again, probably due to how busy there were. Easy to park (and free!) Not sure where the ‘Italian’ theme has come from?
