There were three of us in the party. We went on over 50s evening and the food was really excellent and very good value. I would say the service wasn’t particularly good however it was all a bit vague when we were told where we were sitting. There were no menus where they said they would be. People serving at the bar were mostly outside chatting. We would go back because it was excellent food and a very good price, but they just need to improve their customer service.

Love this pub, the food is fantastic, really tasty and great quality. Service is brilliant, stagg are so friendly. Lovely atmosphere. Can't wait to come back, thank you!

We stopped here overnight in our motorhome. We arrived late but were welcomed when we arrived. The pub is cosy, has a wide selection of drinks and food available too. Will definitely return .

We had a great evening out here! We stayed in the car park in our motorhome, having prebooked . I had the gammon and my partner had duck loaded fries and chicken wings. They coped very well with me as a coeliac (gluten free) . There was llive music which was an added bonus and ta meat draw. The staff and locals were all really welcoming and very friendly. We highly recommend if you like a real Englush pub atmosphere.

We popped in for Sunday lunch, great food and friendly staff. As we were staying near by we popped in again in the evening , as other the two pubs nearby were just food oriented. We wanted to have a chilled drink. As Julie and her team, as well as the regulars, were soo friendly and welcoming. We ended up staying for more than we intended!! . Lots of banter and laughter and much fuss was made of our dog Barney! Looking forward to when we visit the area next time.

What a lovely local inn. Familys are welcomed as well as your dog. On the edge of kingstiegnton , but you feel like your on the moors. Excellent food, large portions and friendy service. Friendly staff and welcoming. Lots of outside seating, there is a enclosed garden at the rear. With a large car park at the front. Campervans also welcomed.

I would like to thank Julie and the team for a fantastic evening. As ever Julie went over and above to ensure our small family celebration for my wife's birthday was fun. Always lovely food (and for those reading, good value). Testament to the hard work over the past 12 months. Proper local.

Good food at a very competitive price. Sadly the experience was let down, once again by the youngish male behind the bar, possibly the owner / landlord ? Charisma of an ant, no welcome on walking in, (it wasn't busy) & no thanks for much else when ordering food / drinks. Service with a smile, it won't happen here, but if you can get past that, then crack on & give it a try 😉

Lovely friendly atmosphere, great food especially as very reasonably priced. Salads are delicious. Great selection of veg with the roasts and beef was really tender. But I especially love their ploughman's. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend .

The staff are very helpful, good service not expensive to eat there. Sunday lunch is good. I had the ploughman lunch very good. it's the best around the area , car park across the road free. Outside eating area. It's a good place to go for lunchtime or dinner.

Stopped over on Monday night in motorhome but weren't serving food that night, so ended up having drinks all night Deano the barman made you very welcome, the locals were very friendly, I would definitely stopover again thanks for a great evening Kenny Carolyn Sooty.

Quiet pub on a Monday evening but very friendly and accommodating - we were able to park out motorhome on the carpark with no problems. We will be back next time to try food - menu looks very good.

Great little country pub with classic pub meals on the menu, dog and child friendly so perfect for family meals out. I went here with my dad grandson and a few other family members. We had a great roast dinner. Fair priced as well. There is also a pool table so we had a couple games of pool after eating. Darts board in the back bar and a great selection of drinks Staff were pretty friendly and awesome, the manager Julie was so kind and helpful with everything. Definitely a hidden gem!

January 23rd. 5 of us came for a lunchtime meal and were so impressed with the service and the food was so freshly cooked, hot, plentiful and very tasty. Two of our company said it was the best ham they had tasted in a long time. Chicken very tender and steak and ale pie very tasty. Must say also thanks to our drinks server, waiter etc etc, (the same very pleasant and helpful young man). It was a treat and we will definitely return. The prices were incredibly reasonable as well.

On holiday seeing family, always come to this pub, lovely atmosphere, brilliant for the kids. We always go out the back bar where they have a kids toy box with my kids love and means we are out of the way and the kids can play. Food is lovely and really good portion sizes. My son wanted mac and cheese which wasn't on the kids menu, however they split it in 2 for both my kids and did different sides then advertised. The staff are lovely and really accomidating and will most certainly be back. Highly recommend.

Such tasty fresh food served by Sam who was so so good. We didn't have to ask for anything, shevwas so attentive. Complements also to the chef. We most definitely will be back. !!!

Under new ownership. This is a brilliant family friendly pub. The food was amazing and great portion sizes. Leave room for the crumble. It's amazing 😍 Staff are friendly and welcoming to new faces. I would advise you to book a table if you want a more personal type of meal setting and to avoid disappointment as the restaurant would be a better option if you want an quiet setting. The entertainment is getting so much better and really bringing people to the village. Hats off to all the hard work going into the place. We will be coming back more regularly ☺️ many thanks for great family times.

Been coming here for 2 years and always loved it, proper country pub very friendly and welcoming staff. Popped in a few times since the new ownership and unfortunately have to say I am disappointed and won’t be returning. No longer the country pub me and my family loved, it’s turned into every other town pub where I don’t feel comfortable bringing my children along with me and partner unlike before. Loud, slot machines and music on basically every weekend. Really sad to see one of the only authentic country pubs in this area turn into this.

The new landlady has got this place back on form. Great food at extremely good prices. Yes there can be a little wait if the place is busy but it’s worth it. Ploughman’s and the roasts are spot on!!

We waited at least 20minutes for a drink. After ordering our food we waited an hour in total, gave up and walked out. We gave the bar person £5 towards our drinks. Up until that point no one had apologised or offered any explanation as to why our meal was taking so long. Very disappointed as we were recommended to the Sandygate.

The new Landlady only took over in April and has completely turned this lovely country pub around. If you like delicious home cooked food this is the place for you. Sunday lunches are good size portions and delicious. The Ploughman’s lunch is enormous and brilliant value for money at only £9.95. Well worth a visit.

Really good roast lunch, the lamb was outstanding. Very attentive service. Good prices and polite staff.

Propper little boozer. Guy behind the bar was a good laugh considering we filled the pool room and was being a bit noisy. Nice place.

This had the potential to be so much better than it was. Interesting and historic building on an ancient Roman Road. Ample car parking and plenty of room around the dining tables. But in the absence of the Chef the food was generic and whilst the portions were larger than average and everything was cooked through it was all rather bland. Average, like the rating I've given. The server was very pleasant and attentive but I could understand why the Brewing Chain owners were advertising on the front wall for a new tenant. There is potential here, sadly not realised during our visit

What a lovely pub and an equally lovely welcome. Kate the barmaid is such a cheerful and friendly young lady as were the locals in the bar. The food we chose were amazing ...the poughmans and hunters chicken. What a feast, very tasty and lots of it ! Thank you so much for looking after us , we will definitely return....we need to try the ham, egg and chips!!!!

We did not have any food but the service we received at the bar was friendly and prompt. Sitting in the beer garden was a first for us and very enjoyable.

This pub has a good-sized beer garden, out the back. The cheese ploughman's was massive and great value for money. They seemed short of staff, but this did not affect the service in any way.

Popped in for some lunch, really warm welcome from the staff. We sat in the beer garden which is larger than I thought it would be. Great area for families. We had tapas and some dirty fries and we're not disappointed at all. Would highly recommend even if just popping in for a quick half.

We visited the sandygate inn on Friday booked under the name of Naomi Turner and I wanted to raise some concerns we had with our visit. I also wanted to add this is not our first visit to the inn as we used to book at least monthly as it was a family favourite. After Fridays experience we are unlikely to visit again and unfortunately would not rush to recommend as we previously have done. We arrived and were taken to our table, a lovely chap who was only on his second day working for you. We firstly asked what cider was on and told ‘I don’t know’ would maybe have been better to have the new staff member shadowed! My partner went to look whilst the new chap waited at the table. We ordered food and we’re surprised when within ten minute one of the four (party of 4) meals arrived. This was a beef madras, this followed with being told the the other meals would be following shortly. The madras was for my partner, he broke the pompadom in half and gave the half to our son to eat and cut the onion bargie in half, adding salt and pepper to the curry. Next minute another colleague arrived, also male and had been working behind the bar on arrival. He apologised and said the madras wasn’t our order, asked if my partner had eaten any (my partner confirmed what he had done), he replied ok great, whisked the madras away and we watched through the window as it was given to another man outside, half a pompadom missing, onion bargie cut and salt and peppered. We were horrified and as I know one of the chaps outside I know that no explanation was made to the guy who received the order about the items or taste. Disgusting! To follow this if it could get any worse we then had to listen to the staff member (new member of staff) swearing as he dropped a full packet of napkins and loudly shouting ‘oh bollocks’ not acceptable at all especially in from of a 3 year old in a family friendly pub! What a dreadful experience, for us and for the chap outside who received the food. We raised our concerns when we were there, to no avail, I also emailed after the visit and again no response. Our child was also poorly when we visited, and the staff did nothing to assist, and when we asked if they have a rubbish bag to put all the dirty napkins in they said no. (We left no trace of our son being unexpectedly poorly) but we’re surprised by the lack of compassion from the staff in an empty restaurant when a 3 year old is unwell. Anyway horrendous experience, food given to others, bad language around children and staff untrained. We have since told others of the experience and heard similar stories. No doubt the staff/management will have sloppy shoulders and look for others to blame. We won’t be rushing back and if it stops one customer from booking then they have had a lucky escape. Hygiene clearly isn’t a focus here!

We booked here for my birthday evening meal, we were in a nook by ourselves on a table of 8. The food was lovely, although the Sandygate burger was a tad dry and the fish batter a little over done, otherwise everything was genuinely delicious 😋 The staff were really friendly and the newly found (for us) Devon Mist was amazing 🤩. Certainly filled the car park with all the Triumph Motorcycles on the 120th anniversary. Free sausage and chips courtesy of Bridge motorcycles bit of a queue at the bar but there would be with 50 odd bikes arriving all in one go. Bar staff coped well with the pressure and some good locals to have a yarn with along the way

Came in at 8.25pm and tried to order food at 8.35pm when states food til 9.00pm to get told kitchen is now closes due too big table! Big disappointment

Proper pub food! Pub is a little dated inside but not to the extent of losing a star as it is in a way the character of the pub. The staff are friendly and welcoming and there's a good selection of beers on tap. The pub is very dog friendly and has a large rear beer garden although it is up some narrow steps and sits on quite a steep hill. The beer garden appears to have had some investment with a large decking area and brick built BBQ. The real star of this pub though is the food, reasonably priced, decent portions and delicious. Real pub food with the lasagna full of veg and meat and covered in a perfect amount of cheese!

I haven't been to this pub in year's, I thought let's have a change, my wife and I were impressed with the decor and cleanliness of the interior, the staff were very friendly and helpful, I will definitely be going again as its only spitting distance from my house.

Good food in nice surroundings.

Three of us ate outside in the sunshine. Two tender steaks and one chicken dish were served. We ate it all with gusto. The onion rings need seeing to be believed. Rather large and very crispy!

13 of us booked for a meal all were jammed on 3 small tables the veg looked and tasted like it had been under a blow dryer would not recommend.

Three of us visited today two of us had haddock and chips and one home made lasagne, everything was cooked perfectly we thoroughly enjoyed the day and shall definitely be returning as soon as possible.
