The best restaurants in Thame South South Oxfordshire South East

The Bird In Hand is the name given to the bar inside the large marquee at Chinnor Rugby Club, which also serves the benches alongside one side of the pitch. Club members get a 15% discount on prices, but these are pretty good for non-members as well. On our first visit we sat outside but it was a windy day ! But it was good to see the Rugby club open and hopefully they will soon be able to start playing regularly again.

Not eating here recently so was interested to see what it was like. Wasn’t disappointed. Pleasant staff. I had mussels. My husband had tomahawk pork. Then we shared a sticky toffee pudding. All to a good standard. Sauvignon blanc wine was nice too.

Been a few times since it changed hands and unfortunately the food quality has dropped. The fish is consistently rubbery and overcooked. It’s never skinless when we ask for it. Last week we ordered two large cod and the size difference between the two was ridiculous, and the chips were virtually a bag of leftover crispy bits - some people might like that, but we like some actual potato in our chips. Real disappointing.

Very nice menu, and tasty, but the portions are incredibly small. You don’t even get a whole muffin just half (on eggs Benedict ) More of a treat place than a regular occurrence, purely due to cost. Coffee is lovely.

We visited for a childfree birthday breakfast treat, quant little bakery downstairs, warm and welcoming cafe upstairs. Staff extremely friendly with great service. Food was good value and arrived quickly, tasting great. Highly recommended

It's a cosy cafe with a nice log fire. The garden area must be great in the summer. Whilst I appreciate it is a tea and cakes cafe it's not a spot on a european cafe. The selection of cakes is tired looking and there is no hot food or snacks. My breakfast was pretty ordinary. Mediocre tasting coffee. My offering of toast was unimpressive. Supermarket sliced bread with two small packaged pieces of butter and a tiny pot of marmalade. With Thame being a market town I would suggest; Doorsteps of real farmhouse bread. A pot of proper butter and a pot of homemade marmalade. Overpriced as it is at the moment. My request for a second coffee never appeared.

A lovely new team have taken over The Birdcage Inn. A quaint little pub ideal for casual day or evening drinks with plenty of entertainment in the evenings

It's a wet bar but the bagged snack selection is great The beer selection is fantastic and how they are kept is excellent Landlord and lady are lovely too!

The pizza was AWFUL, paper thin hardly any cheese and to be honest and it didn’t really taste of anything. BEWARE they are COST cutting and it REALLY SHOWED. I wish I’d gone to M & S and had a PROPER PIZZA!

If your preference is for superb beef cooked to pink perfection & with generous supplies of it, then don't bother going anywhere else: The Black Horse is the place where you'll find it, as we did yesterday. Coupled with an enormous Yorkshire pudding & copious supplies of accompanying veg, this was a very fine meal indeed. We would recommend going there wholeheartedly. And the sticky toffee pudding was spot on, too. Light as a feather, it melted in the mouth.

Great place to be, excellent drinks selection, food is 5 star. If you’re after a cosy atmosphere for a drink or a nice meal look no further.
