Very nice food and there are some healthy options which is unusual for places with such old atmosphere

Great breakfast for five, nice coffee and good service.

Booked for lunch. We ate a three course meal, which I can't fault. Staff, were attentive. Service was at the right speed, not too long waits and again time to relax between each setting. Finished with a coffee outside, nice to be able to sit outside, first time this year.

Lovely food as usual but very disappointed that at 4:15 they were unavailable items for Sunday roast. There was no roast pork, no cauliflower cheese, when dinner is served until 8 pm, I wonder what’s available at 6 pm?

Lovely friendly place, excellent food. Its been 18 months since our previous visit and just as good. The food options are more interesting than the run of the mill. Good service, would recommend.

Had a very enjoyable Christmas lunch at the Thatch. We had a nice cozy corner of the pub for our work group which was very comfortable. The staff were very attentive and the lunch was really tasty! Really good and reasonably priced too!

New review: Food and service is excellent. More than made up for visit in 2022. Old review: I have eaten here once and food was very good. I booked on Open Table and have been called a "no show". This isn't true as I put in a call to get an automatic call-back as we could not park due to roadworks outside the restaurant. I did not get a call back and Open Table rebuked me for not turning up! I will not go here again based on this and the website should reflect more accurately the current parking situation.

We had a lovely meal , the food was very good, only problem was it was very noisy , as there was a Christmas party on . W e would have liked to be given a choice of a quieter area , but we really enjoyed the food .

I have never sat in such a cold pub/restaurant I had the beef roast, which was very fatty and being so cold in there the food didn't stay hot for long. I would return but in the warmer months as being so cold it was not pleasant.

My visit was just awesome the location, food and staff were just attentive and so professional, our waitress was a fantastic young lady called Lucinda she made our visit just so special. Such amazing service bringing extra vegetables and gravy on request nothing was too much trouble. Now the Sunday lunch was well cooked probably the best I have eaten for a long time. An amazing choice offers and wine mid range and more expensive. Well worth a visit booking recommend.

Amazing food and the service that went with it was excellent. The very friendly atmosphere just makes the place a must visit when close to Thame. The chefs hard work in producing some amazing dishes (recommend the Pork) is matched by the helpful and first class service by the staff. Sunday lunch together with my friend. I had pork, she had chicken. Food was extremely disappointing. Overcooked, reheated, dry. Service very good, decoration inside nice. If you re going for a drink or a coffee, it would be ok. If you want to have a good lunch or dinner and you are used to eat very well cooked food, don t go to Thatch.

We came in for dinner on the spur of the moment on Monday evening so didn’t have a booking. We were warmly welcomed and offered a choice of tables. Our food was delicious. The waitress, who looked after us very well, recommended the prawn croquettes as I couldn’t decide on a starter and they were wonderful. Both of us had the beef pie for mains and swapped the mash for chips and it was lovely. I enjoyed it so much I’ve booked for my 50th birthday. Hats off to the waitress for making us feel so welcome and for looking after us. Thank you

What a beautiful, warm and kind place this is. Just came for a very low key, quiet, wedding lunch with a couple of good friends. When they heard my partner and I had just got married, they helped us celebrate with complimentary, truly delicious desserts for the four of us. So thoughtful and generous. Thame is so lucky to have The Thatch!.

We had a large group of us go for a meal on a Saturday night and the Thatch did not let us down. The servers were all great and the food came out quickly and was all delicious.

I've been here numerous times over they years and definitely feel that both food and service has deteriorated in the last 12 months or so. I appreciate Sundays are busy, but the last time we visited, we had to wait for our table (which we had booked). The waitress looked very flustered. The roast came and was extremely disappointing, we chose the beef, which was around £26, overall it was not good value for money, portions were small and the meat disappointing. For me there are far better places along the high street to enjoy a roast. Shame as this place has been a firm favourite of mine over the years.

Went for a celebration of the Mother in Laws’ 88th. Had such a great time that it’s hard to give thanks where due as all the staff were incredible. From parking her broom and finding a spare peg for the hat, ignoring the wandering warts and the odd incantation , to the candle for her cauldron. Can’t say thank you enough for the superb service and food but a heartfelt Thank You nonetheless.

We ventured into a charming pub with a cozy fireplace and friendly staff, eager for a delightful breakfast experience. Regrettably, our visit took an unfortunate turn. We made a simple request for our hollandaise sauce to be served on the side. To our dismay, we were informed that the chef had already placed it on the eggs. Given that we had already waited close to 30 minutes, we reluctantly accepted this arrangement, thinking it wouldn't be the end of the world. However, when our Full English breakfast finally arrived, it was a woeful attempt at the classic dish. Priced at £13.50, which isn't insignificant for breakfast, our disappointment was sparked. The black pudding was a mere 3cm wide, shattered as it was so dry , and weighed a mere 20g. My mushroom was the size of a £2 coin, dry and not seasoned. if you are only going to give one sausage then fine but make it a large one and a good one. The bacon consisted of two dehydrated slices of back bacon that were like leather to eat, and the beans had a crust as if they'd been under the grill for a day. . To top it off, I was served a mere third of a slice of pre-toasted, hard, and stale sourdough bread. When the plate was presented before me, shock was my initial reaction. Feeling quite shortchanged, I asked the server and inquired whether I might have additional mushrooms and black pudding. She returned with a small ramekin containing another thin 20g slice of black pudding, unbroken this time, which offered a glimmer of improvement but still measly. the worst thing is here i was reading that they are serving game specials soon but now after seeing the breakfast skills Im afraid the game wont be on my list to try as that's a lot more complicated. We wont be returning

We had a fantastic lunch here. A great menu making it hard to choose what to eat. Went for the devilled kidneys to start followed by hake fillet. Both were fantastic. Very friendly and attentive staff. It’s always a treat to go to The Thatch and I look forward to going back.

The first time we walked in we were greeted like old friends and it genuinely was like coming home nothing was too much trouble and life just slowed down for an hour or two Dogs re welcome in the garden and even got hampered when we were there from wht we have seen they have regular special events such as tasting men menu nights and what we really loved was their support of local producers if you like something they will share with you it's origin so you can support them as well We have now spent a LOT pf this summer in their garden Breakfast Lucnh and Sunday dinner but the inside looks great we are looking forward to spending the winter inside by a cozy fire maybe Some places have great food some places have great atmosphere and some places have great staff but to find all three we think we have git the jackpot Thank you to all who have made this little oasis happen GOOD JOB !!! I think you'll love it... Oh PS there's always a specials board wait to see that before you decide, there is always something great on it ENJOY!

Can't believe how slow the service was, just not good enough. The food was indifferent and I wouldn't be in a rush to return. Shame because it's quite a nice place but you have to remember the object in going out and it's not this.

I came with a group of people and we ordered in advance. I had a nice steak, well cooked, and chips which I felt was decent value for money. However many of the group had sea bass, which turned out to be £24 just for a modest piece of sea bass with no veg or chips. So once added veg and chips or potatoes, you’re talking £30 or so. We were pretty gobsmacked that for £24 you got just a small piece of fish. The chicken was edible and pleasant but chicken was dry and the potato cold. The pork was nice but small. Paying £78 for two main courses, a shared starter, a small glass of wine and a soft drink you rather expect a very good meal, but we really felt it was not value for money overall. The service was good which was appreciated. I felt the staff seemed a bit busy and stressed which is a shame for them but didn’t effect our experience. We won’t be rushing back, but if we do go again, we will be careful what we order.

Night and day from the six bells 25m away with Mike behind the bar who had a massive smile and was lovely. Really good vibe, lots of choice and more than by means of great attitude. We didn’t eat but what did pass us looked really nice. Very happy to recommend.

Popped in this evening, wonderful 😊 We visited on mother's day, and it was super busy even at 7:30pm, however the brilliant front of house staff found us a seat, by the fire in the snug! What an excellent start to our visit! The menu options are good, and augmented by a specials board, with both of us settling for a roast, one beef and one butternut and mushroom nut roast. Good sized portions, fantastic cauliflower cheese, and a wonderful apple crumble to follow. The food is and has a home cooked style and was scrumptious, we will be back..... And we did, above March 2023, back today August 2023... no change still wonderful

Hi down from the Midlands visiting friends for the weekend, we met them at the thatch and had a lovely meal. The food exceptional everything came out hot and at the right time the staff very attentive nothing too much trouble. we'd visited here previously and were impressed with the knowledge of the available wines. Second visit, we returned and I was totally blanked by the staff, a couple came to the bar after I had arrived and were swooned over by the barmaid, after serving them she walked off, 2 other people were also served ahead of me before a young waitress apologetically looked over but she was also busy. I've worked in Pubs and would never treat a customer as badly. After over 10 minutes of being ignored we duly left. 2 potential regular customers lost. Went to a far more accommodating pub up the road.

Driving from Oxford to Cambridge, we stopped in The Thatch. It was a cool rainy day and smiling faces invited us inside. The service was top notch and very friendly to our American Family. We enjoyed the hot and crispy duck spring rolls and cheese soufflé as an appetizer. The four of us each ordered something different and everything was quite tasty and prepared with home made goodness! The chicken and pork chop on the menu do not disappoint. The other two indulged in a chalkboard special- pork belly and the fish of the day! We highly recommend this delightful, warm and inviting tavern!

This was our third visit to The Thatch after enjoying it so much twice before….however, based on our experience this time we won’t be returning. The service , while friendly, was painfully slow, we had to chase our food up after 35 minutes and it eventually arrived after 45 minutes. Two roast pork dishes came without the crackling , when we enquired we were told ‘ I saw him put it on but I can get you some more’…..suggesting what exactly?! .. a very poor response! The food in general was ok..but a piece of salmon, while well cooked came with rock hard and consequently inedible new potatoes and the ‘summer vegetables’ were a handful of undressed salad leaves. Thankfully we had ordered cauliflower cheese! Once we had eaten our plates sat in front of us for 10 minutes before we cleared them to the end of the table. No one came to clear or to ask if we wanted dessert..or anything.. We had to go to the bar to request our bill and then return to the bar to pay and were told that our server had gone on her break..presumably she would have come back to us later then ?! Such a disappointing visit.

The food is excellent, and it’s a lovely venue. Some feedback which I hope will be helpful: 1/ the drinks service was slow. Some people at the next table who got here after us already had their drinks, so I eventually chased up ours. A small thing perhaps but maybe need one more person on the bar? 2/ my brother in law had the Monkfish: not cheap but really good, however the piece of fish was smaller than expected. The rest of us had the Veggie Wellington Roast - that was awesome as were the accompanying veg, thanks! Overall great and we will continue to return here from time to time. Hope the feedback is helpful.

Quaint, and historic gastropub located in the lovely village of Thame, Oxfordshire. Serves traditional and modern British food, which during winter was heartwarming, and delicious. The waiting staff and bar staff are always so friendly and work hard to make the dining experience a good one. I have eaten many times here in the last 6 months and it never dissapoints. The menu is interesting with many different well thought out choices. I love that the food arrives piping hot on lovely hot stoneware plates. (hate the cold and cold food) The menu changes often to keep up to date of food in season and is locally sourced. There is a more modern side and an older side to the restaurant depending on who you want to dine with. My favourite place to go. My menu choice as of today is the monkfish on spinach and spiced aubergine, the pheasant terrine is also amazing as is the triple cooked chip. So many other restaurants get the basics wrong that it spoils the experience before you even start. The thatch have got it right and no I don't work for them !!!! They also have a lovely courtyard dining area with a canopy and outdoor heater, great for a cold morsel like me.
