This is one of the best proper pubs I've found. It befitting of wallingford with the management taking a community first approach. Selection of cider beer and spirits is good all round. Parking in the area is a bit restricted, but the pub has a modest carpark. However, because it's normally fairly busy, it's normally fairly full. Keep up the good work cross keys..

Lovely pub, we went cycling on an exceptionally hot day, so stopped in for a pint and ended up staying for 3. Lovely welcome from the bar maid, made us feel welcome and told us about the beer garden round the back and where we could store our bikes. They had a pop up food kitchen doing kebabs which were excellent and good value for money and large in size. The beer was on point and a good selection. It was a shame we had to leave to finish the rest of the bike ride.

The Cross Keys is a wonderful pub in Wallingford. Under the new management, the place has been transformed and it now is exactly what a pub should be: friendly, enticing, fun and serving a great range of beers, ciders and spirits, as well as a good variety of bar snacks. The beers at the pump change regularly, offering something different to try. Although the pub doesn’t have its own operational kitchen, the new management arranges for high quality food trucks to stop in the car park, serving up dishes from several cuisines (check the website for which is there on each day). On warmer days and evenings, the garden is great to sit in, and the addition of a covered area at the back of the pub provides shelter for when it rains. The new owners are to be commended, and even in the short time since they’ve taken over, the Cross Keys has won several CAMRA awards. Most highly recommended!

No.1 Wallingford pub🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟by a long chalk. Our group has tried all the others. Here is 💯 % brilliant. Value for💰. Our group went here a year ago & ❤️loved it. Our group went again recently & ❤️d even more than ever. Beautiful revamp of decor keeping the old fashioned traditional feel of this 15th century pub (Grade 2 listed in 1988). Needs to remain Grade 2 listed indefinitely & protected from any developers in future. Fits in with historic town. Stunning set of rooms to choose to dine in, 2 rooms you wouldn't know were there unless you explored. Friendly landlord & landlady, wish them all the success here. They have put in so much of their heart & soul into the place. I hope they stay a very long time. Alcohol selection 👏 & snacks 👏. 🚻 clean. Again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

A friend and I were on a street photography trip to Wallingford to liven up a dark Winter day and we were seriously impressed by the Cross Keys. It’s now under new management and is really spectacular inside, with lots of lovey dark wood and curious antiquities. Dave has done a fantastic job on it. A lovely guy too and made us very welcome. He’s pitching it as a drinker pub and we think that’s a great decision. Lovely fresh beers on cask and keg. It was so nice to escape the pretty shocking weather and warm by the fire with an excellent pint of Rebel or Beavertown Neck Oil. They have a food truck come around so, best check first if one is turning up if you are hungry. Dave had no problem with us bringing a few stacks to eat which suited us perfectly. Better really, as a nipping into Waitrose is better and cheeper than most pub grub. This will certainly be our go-to pub in Wallingford, and the standard is indeed high with competition like The Keep. Please do excuse the heavy street edit on my shots of the place :-) Recommended

The food was good, especially during the ‘substantial meal phase’. Im afraid the place now rather lives up to its previous rough reputation, the last two times I’ve chosen to go home early as some of the regulars were having a go at me and my friends. Every time I’ve asked for help I’ve been ignored. It’s a real shame to be honest because before these incidents I thought the place was getting better.

I highly recommend the Cross Keys in Wallingford. Having eaten here a few times, I have always been more than satisfied with my meal. The food is fresh, prepared with care, presented beautifully, and full of flavour! I had the chicken burger which came with fresh salad garnish and scrumptious chips. Even the amendments I asked for (added cheese and bbq sauce) were accommodated with no trouble. The hosts, Simon and Amy, could not be more hospitable. They genuinely could not do more to make my visit enjoyable. They are friendly, full of humour - even on an extremely hot day! The systems in place for health and safety at this time are effective and work well to ensure people can visit safely and feel secure. You will not be disappointed.

We had a great welcome from the couple managing the pub, very friendly. Not sure I like the fact that the albeit rather cute dog had its paws on the bar. We sat by ourselves which was fine, but returned inside to eat. Corner table with wooden bench, fine but I would have appreciated a cushion. We ordered a burger and a beef and ale pie. The burger was ok, chips very nice but whatever happened to burger buns? Pretzel bun? The beef and ale pie came out with mash and cabbage. Veggies were ok but the gravy was little better than water, with no flavour. One expects a rich meaty gravy with a beef pie. The food was rather average, and I appreciate that we got 50% off, but would rather pay the price for better food. I read about the good sunday roasts so we will give it another try.

We have visited several times since under the new Management (before it was diabolical!) and it is pleasing to see it brought back to its prime when Bob Wyatt was there 👍 and with so much more to offer! You could visit on a Sunday lunchtime and the roasts will beckon your attention! but then after lunch, the pub fills up with families who will spend the afternoon playing board games and have a great time - always a wonderful atmosphere and a welcoming place to be 🙏 Thank you Simon and Amy (and of course the boys are a delight and Milo will always be an adorable dog). I’m extremely fussy when it comes to food so I was thrilled when I found more than one dish on the menu that I liked 👌 Hubby loves squid and it can be easy to spoil but Simon gets it right every time! The chicken and chorizo pie was gorgeous as it wasn’t salty or rich (as you’d expect from this combo) and I look forward to having it again. But the one to brag about is the Keys Burger. I didn’t take a photo So I’ll do my best to describe... Served on a wooden board, with a side of coleslaw and a small bucket of chips, the burger was stacked so high, I couldn’t believe the price of it!! Presented beautifully, I was pleased the chips were unsalted, which allowed me to administer as I pleased, and the only thing I didn’t like on it was the red onion (as mentioned, I am fussy) but it looked like it should be there - a photo actually would do it justice! I know next time I will ask for it without onion, that’s exactly what I’d receive. I ate it all (except onion) and I was certainly full. Needless to say, I’d order that again and I know I’d love it again! Last night walking past, it was full with diners for Burns night. Looking forward to some live music this afternoon and Quiz next Tuesday. It really is the pub that keeps giving ☝️👌🎹🎷🎤 Those who know me, if I didn’t like something, I’d definitely say and rarely do I come across a place where it’s all perfect! Great work Simon and Amy. You’re the perfect hosts 🙏👌

Visited the Keys for the first time in several years on a recent Friday evening with a group of friends. The pub is transformed! The new tenants (and their excellent dog) are welcoming and friendly, with a "nothing is too much trouble" attitude to service.Inside, the decor is now much lighter and although it's still a small pub, this makes it feel larger inside - even when 13 of us moved from the garden to the back room (sorry!).The garden is now well-kept with safe play equipment for children and several tables to sit at. There's also a gate to keep little ones from heading out to the road. There are also tables outside the entrance set back from the road with umbrellas. Well-behaved dogs are welcome inside and out.We have yet to try the food, but judging by the unsolicited positive reviews we received from two other customers it goes down very well! We'll be back to give it a try soon. This is a great location for a pit stop on the walk into or back from town for anyone who lives in the west of Wallingford, and now equally good for a family-friendly evening drink. As a tied house you'll only find Brakspear bitter on tap, but it was well-kept and the Jericho particularly good. Good range of other drinks, including lagers, draft cider, and a range of wines, gins and spirits. It's really good to have a family local again. If you live in Wallingford and have been walking past the Cross Keys for a few years then it's definitely time to give it another go - and support the new tenants who are off to a great start.
