The best restaurants in Newhaven Denton and Meeching Lewes South East

Absolutely fantastic blue cheese and bacon burger with fries. Chunks of blue cheese with garlic mayo (I think!) and crispy bacon ona great tasting burger. Don't be put off by the outside appearance (I wasn't sure it was open until I stuck my head through the door) - the food is gorgeous and good value. Fresh and homemade by 'Big Ben' and his team who were all very friendly.

Great personal attention and lovely food - made up a salad and cheese with Sadinian sausage rolls and delicious coffee ... we bought a pot of cheese too - beautiful

Very welcoming, many things to do, events, dances and a great cafe. If you go once you will go over and over again.

Small independent Italian restaurant set in quiet end of terrace block of commercial units and a food supermarket. Great sun trap outdoor seating around 8 x 4 seat tables covered in plastic gingham fabric. Aluminium chairs are low and not that wide or comfortable. Service is all you could ask for. No draft beer or lager. Bottles only. Food was very tasty and large portions. A nice set 2 course menu available Monday to Thursday varied choice of starters and main. Decor, tables and chairs very basic but functional separate toilets men- women. Wheelchair accessible. Cash and contactless payment accepted. Parking is restricted a pay and park on private Road adjacent property. The restaurant will be under new ownership beginning of April 2025.

Used it a lot last summer and will again this year. Great fresh food and run by very nice people. Recommend highly *****

Great food, good value and should be busier for the quality. I was the only person dining on a Thursday evening. House wines were a bit average.

Best to walk as parking is limited, although not necessary depending on time if day. Excellent cafe, competitively priced and good quality cafe food.

Looked up cafes for breakfast near the port and found this gem. Nothing to look at as its a porta cabin but inside its clean and the food is excellent. Thick bread and butter, great breakfasts and very reasonable prices. Love the dog but not sure everyone would appreciate the staff stroking the dog and then continuing to serve food but we love dogs and doesn't bother us. The tea and coffee were best tasted, not fancy just proper tea and coffee. Would definately recommend, parking at the rear too. Easy to walk from port or premier inn, and great value. Staff very friendly and will definitely return next trip to Newhaven.

We had a wonderful meal at this pub after a lovely day at the beach. The publican was a lovely, friendly lady who started a conversation with my little boy about his black eye he'd earned from falling on a round-about. She was very welcoming. The staff were great and friendly. My husband couldn't stop talking about how lovely the roast gammon was. The overall atmosphere of the pub was rustic with a sea faring theme. It's one of the nicest pubs I've visited. I would encourage people to stop by if they visit the area.

Great Latino evening/ event great music and beers from Abyss brewery -food was good from La Cantina although they a little overwhelmed by numbers

The Ark is OK if you just want a drink, but it seems to have lost its atmosphere. It used to have comfy seating, it used to have small tables to put your drink on with a few chairs to each table scattered around. Now it looks like a school dining room with dining tables and six chairs per table. Decent selection of drinks though, and it’s probably nicer in the summer months when you can sit outside and watch the world go by. (It does have parking, so that’s an advantage)

Truthfully this was such a disappointing experience for all 4 of us. It was expensive, Brighton prices that simply werent justified. We had high expectations of this local pub as our companions had eaten there a few years ago. I asked what the pie of the day was, served with mash and veg, it was fish...what? There was already fish pie on the menu! We each had a 2 course meal in a soulless dining room that needed a refurb, we found it difficult to choose from the bland menu and 'settled' for fish and chips and fish pie. The staff were friendly which was the only positive. They weren't sure what was available on the menu. Sorry, but we simply can't recommend you.
