My husband, daughter and I were visiting friends for a week in Shipston and this place became our second home. The building is really lovely- traditional and with a very pretty bar which is really cozy... perfect for dogs, kids and anyone wanting a good chat and a great pint (fab selection of ales and lagers). We loved the sofa in the corner for playing cards. I imagine it's super lovely when the fire is lit in winter. It's the garden that we loved most though.. there's a natural wig wam tree thing with kids stuff in so perfect for little ones. Lots of tables with an uninterrupted view of the rolling hills. They don't 'do' food but have a wood fired pizza oven that comes once every month and it was amazing! I think they have a similar thing with local fish and chips too. We were also there on 'sharing night' when the locals all bring in stuff like cheese and home made bread to share on the bar. All in all, this was a fantastic pub with great staff, a beautiful garden and a really charming, cozy bar. We will be back!

We have been many times as a local but the food has deteriorated and the fish and chips is probably worst value we have had from many restaurants. Either a new chef or simply cutting tight back. The waiters attitude wasextremely poor and blaise and said they had changed suppliers...but did not care at our complaint. Unfrotunate as now lost a local cpouple who usually go every month if not more. I would recommend not doing food here but great for a drink.

We booked a room for three nights in room 2 and I’m glad it wasn’t a longer stay. The bathroom was badly run down and in need of repair, the shower head kept sliding down the pole and wouldn’t stay up and the door lock was missing in action. The bedroom had a decent double bed and a full sized single with a truckle bed underneath, though if the truckle bed was pulled out there wouldn’t be any space to move in the room! You could feel every spring in the mattress of the double bed, so we didn’t sleep well. The room also doesn’t have any where beside the beds to put things which is a personal bug bear of mine. The room wasn’t serviced the first day. The second day they asked if there was anything we needed so we said the TV remote didn’t work. We came back to find new batteries left on the side and the bin had been emptied but the old bin bag was just left lying next to it! Very odd service. Positives were the pleasant courtyard the rooms opened on to, loads of parking and a nicely stocked and thoughtful drinks tray, including oat milk sachets. The WiFi was good too. We ate one meal in the pub and it was nice, with friendly service and a varied menu. That’s the reason I’m giving them two stars! We only ate there once as the other two nights we stayed the pub was shut, something no one warned us about so it’s a good job we weren’t relying on them for food! I’m also not sure why the pub is listed as doing breakfast because they don’t- rooms are bed only. The Hook Norton brewery just up the road has an excellent restaurant which opens at 8.

Our friends who live nearby took us here last night. What an amazing experience. A first for us with the tasting menu. Absolutely delicious. Great attention to detail. A family owned business. The chef comes out and explains the dishes. I can highly recommend and will hopefully return when next in the area.

The food in this idyllic country pub is exquisite. I really enjoyed coming here with my 9-year-old son who thoroughly enjoyed the chicken souvlaki. The people here are so friendly and welcoming. It’s one of my favorite pubs in the UK and my absolute favorite in Oxfordshire.
