It is a lovely little place with the rooms outside...the room was lovely, clean and the bed comfortable...my only downside was that I checked the website before arriving as I know it's near winter and things change...nothing had..I arrived after a 4 hour journey, tired and hungry to be told there was no food available all day as a party was for that night..but a pub up the road would serve food in evening .. brilliant just what I needed... As I wasn't going on windy roads with no lighting that I had no idea where it was... I got back in car and drove till I found place to eat ...to be informed by that pub that the one I was booked into, did not serve breakfast on sat or Sunday ...I got back to room ..had a very boring evening ..no food and got up in morning to over a 3 hour journey..no breakfast... Not what I expected..or that was on website... That's just my experience ... I was not best pleased.. and just my opinion...

The room was very nice, however, they were having a community fire work event for charity which looked amazing. This did turn into a late disco and as we were staying a few meters away from the bar, having loud music until 2am was not great. If this was happening would it not have been prudent to inform people who are booking a stay there?

Great service and fantastic food!

We stayed one night on the campsite in our van, the facilities were great and our dog was safe sniffing around. We also had food on their first burger night. It was amazing - the food was delicious, the wine was great and the girls serving were amazing and so attentive. Highly recommend burger night at GHH!

For camping this is a very poor site. No pitches designated so slightly chaotic. the field has quite a slope on it so stiff competition for flat pitches. But importantly for a site that had approx 60 people on it on a bank holiday, there were only 2 loos, one shower !! And the shower was in the same room as one of the loos. Loos also not well maintained , loo roll running out in the mornings. Will not be visiting again!!

Lovely pub, room was really good nice comfy after a long drive. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Will definitely look to stay here again. Very reasonably priced as well.

Me my partner and my 5 year old son visited here Saturday just gone and we had an amazing time, the food was lovely and the kids play area kept our son entertained all day. Such a family friendly vibe we will 100% be visiting again shortly. You have done a great job guys well done ✅✨

Hidden little gem to be honest nice park for the kids plenty of parking lovely staff and we only had chips to eat as a snack but they were very good chips. The food that was coming out you could just tell it was amazing food. Definitely going back for a proper dinner. X

Excellent pub on the outskirts of Hook Norton serving delicious food and a great variety of beers from the local brewery and across the UK. Always lots of functions going on and also has excellent camping facilities - highly recommended.

New management and a new menu and our meal... it was amazing. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere good food what's not to like.

I booked for me and my partner to have the surf and turf on Saturday 6th , I got a phone call in the week to say they was having work done on the kitchen that wouldn’t be finished so they rebooked us for the following Friday and said we could have 10% off for the inconvenience. I regret that we rebooked because the experience we had was the worse we’ve had at any restaurant. We arrived at 7.20 for a booking at 7.30. I told the barmaid and she said ‘the surf and turf’ to which I replied yes. She led us to a table and we sat down. Ten minutes passed and no one had asked us if we wanted a drink so I went up to the bar to get one. I drank my beer with no one even acknowledging us so I went up to the bar again with my empty glass. The barmaid took it. Turned her back and started filling the glass washer. She turned round and said oh did you want a drink and I replied yes that’s why I’m at the bar! I sat down and a few minutes later the barmaid came over and asked us what we was having I said the surf and turf, she already knew this because it had to be rebooked and she was the one that greeted us when we arrived. She then asked how we wanted the steak to be cooked. This was half an hour after we arrived. It was the first time anyone had come to the table. The waitress seemed to be serving everyone but us so I went to the bar again to get so water for the table. After another 20 minutes I asked the waitress how long it would be so she went off and asked . The chef said he’d been waiting to know how we wanted our steak. We assumed it being pre ordered it would be cooked to order and would have started when we arrived. We’d been sat down half an hour before the barmaid even came to the table to ask us how we wanted the steak. After about another 10 minutes the food did finally come out and to be fair it was really nice. We just wanted to go. We were going to see a band and hadn’t planned on the meal taking so long. My wife was very upset, they did knock the original 10% off and £10. It did ruin our night. The bulk of the fault lies with the barmaid. She had long black hair. On arrival we should have been sat down and asked if we wanted drinks. Then someone should have come over and asked how we wanted our steak. It shouldn’t have took half an hour and I shouldn’t have had to go to the bar for every drink. I wouldn’t return.

Despite the claims breakfast was simply unavailable.

This was our second time stopping here, a lot of work has been done since Easter and it’s looking great. Unfortunately I can only give 3* on this occasion, as the restaurant stopped serving food early and we wasn’t the only ones turned away. No breakfast available either. And unfortunately the bar staff when serving was preoccupied by being on the phone and got our drinks wrong.

Came here for our 10 year anniversary meal, and unfortunately we will not be returning in a rush. On receiving the menu we were told half of it was not available due to the chef not being there resulting in a temp chef stepping in. We both had fish and chips to which we couldn't eat the chips as they were so over done but the fish was nice. A little disappointed as we had heard great things about the food. The bar staff were lovely.

A****** all round the rooms are spotless beds are clean and fresh bathroom small but everything is there what you need ( hand soap and even hand cream lovely soft toilet rolls and air freshen Bar and staff are so friendly unfortunately the chef was off and couldn't get to try the food . We had a small indent of a smoke alarm went off but no fault of the owners someone lit up a cigarette in the bedroom katie and nigel were stright over to sort it out and gave free drinks at the bar witch she did not have to do ( my opinion if you smoke go out side don't try to smoke in bedroom ) thank you so much katie for our stay well will be back xx

Great lttle place to stay in a camper. We had 1 night in our way to Cornwall, brilliant value for money, great food and a play area for the kids. Would definitely go again

Stayed on the campsite. Not as pretty as the photos would lead you to believe. Overflowing bins and quite a lot of rubbish. Looks like they are investing in the pub and lots of work ongoing in the beer garden. Music was OK on the Saturday night. The village and brewery is about 30 mins walk, otherwise most places of interest require a car trip. Fires are allowed which makes a nice change.

Lovely food, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Camped over with friends and we all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

Great pub with campsite....but unfortunately lots of flies in the bar and restaurant.. .so we cancelled our table for food.

Great place to camp.so relaxed on which pitch you would like . Staff are helpful and friendly . The food is very nice and freshly cooked. White chocolate and ginger cheese cake is to die for its so amazing .!!!! Would totally recommended the gate hangs high .

Food and service 5star, The camping ground was not that flat, as in it looked as if a caterpillar digger had been doing doughnuts all over it. As others have said ...it is not the prettiest of locations....but the landlords are making it into a great little place with a sheltered (from the wind) camping field together with a good pub. What's not to like? I'll tell you what, the incessant slamming of motorhome doors throughout the night 😡

Went to the gate for food the other day for their new tapas menu. Absolutely banging! Couldn’t praise it enough. Really good food and great hospitality and good beer selection! Couldn’t recommend it enough

Had a night booked here for some camping with friends on the Saturday of the bank holiday. Can’t speak to the pub, but the campsite (which is sandwiched between a busy road and an industrial storage facility) felt like a car park, largely packed with vans, caravans and cars (partially due to an ongoing classic car rally in the middle of the site - if you’re into that, great, but not exactly peace and quiet). Little planning for where newcomers could pitch up and when asked where we should go, was greeted with a very very cold response, and no guidance whatsoever. Left after around 15 minutes and pitched at a lovely site down the road!

Nice pub in a good location, popped in for a beer with family on the decent sized garden in a peaceful location, looked to be a campsite attached for those who might need it too.

Really delicious offerings. Enjoyed the chicken sandwich and the nachos. You can tell they put some effort into the interior.

Used as a Motorhome stop and stayed in carpark. Camping field behind pub if you require ehu. Food is excellent and a good selection of ales.

We had a lunch of fish and chips and a meal salad with two hooky bitters. Perfection!

Thanks to all at the gate after I underestimated how many would turn up after my mother in law’s funeral. You pulled out all the stops to ensure that everyone got well fed. They all did and it was delicious. Can’t thank you enough for your support and understanding.

Really good prices compared to other pubs in the area. Great vibe in the pub along with a modern but old pub interior design. Live music. Was great!

Impeccable service and incredibly delicious food

Honestly too many good points to write about! Stayed for the weekend in the campsite which was busy but still peaceful enough to enjoy your own holiday. Great area for the kids to run,play and ride the bikes between the campsite and pub! Arrived on the Friday for a meal for 8 of us, all of us had 2/3 courses each and all throughly enjoyed every meal we had (dirty steak fries were my favourite so good in fact I had to have them again before I left on the Sunday!). Lovely pub that has had a lot of hard work put in to it! 100% recommend and will be back!

Stopped off by chance. Found this fabulous pub with great food very high-quality products very reasonable prices.

Stopped here on an off chance of getting a meal on a Friday night. The manager was very obliging on what was a busy night for them. I have to say the food was first rate. The stake was one of the best I’ve ever had and cooked to perfection. The mussel starter was just wonderful and I could have had a bucket of them. The pub is a bit of our normal range as we were visiting friends, however I’ll be make sure we come back out this way for sure. The price was well worth the drive alone! Staff were also very attentive and welcoming.

A cute village pub with friendly service and lovely decor! Only popped in for Sunday night drinks but will return to try the menu soon :)

Hosted a party here, a great night! Katie made sure that things were perfect: she spent a lot of time beforehand finding us great music (Town Sparks, highly recommended 😁); she provided a taxi service to Hook Norton on the night; the food provided was excellent (especially the roast potatoes) and she kept things flowing nicely on the night. The location is a little out of the village, but that means you can party properly and really dance the night away. We stayed over in one of their comfy rooms, and will certainly be back to camp in the summer. Thank you again!

Katie et Brett sont très accueillant et l'ambiance familiale de ce pub est géniale ! J'y ai débarqué par hasard avec mon van et je m'y suis tout de suite sentie bien. J'y suis restée quelques jours. Toutes les personnes rencontrées ici sont adorables et jamais avares de conseils pour découvrir le coin. Les soirées organisées sont top, notamment la soirée karaoké 😉 Je reviendrais !

We overnighter here, but we don't have a great deal to review as whilst we were there, the kitchens were being replaced so there was no food on. Apart from that, it's a great little pub .

Recently under new management, this pub offers camping and overnight stops for motorhomes in a quiet location. A great mix of old and new with good beer on offer. I'd recommend it for a stopover if you are in the area.

Absolutely amazing pub to work for and to visit as a customer. I have worked here for nearly 2 years now and have been here since november when the mathews family took over and what a change they have made to the place ( all for the better)The pub is so welcomimg and warming its a home from home.Absolutely wonderful family extremely friendly and willing to listen to customers wants and needs to make the pub/restaurant suitable for everyone. You won't regret a visit! Come and see for yourselves!

This pub is super cosy warm and inviting and This is now one of my new regular pubs I attend the staff are super friendly the prices of drinks and range of drinks avaliable are great they hold fun events and really is an asset to have on my doorstep thank you to all the staff and management you have done a great job

The Gate is a lovely cosy pub that has recently reopened with a new owner / new management. This morning we went to the all you can eat breakfast. There was a great selection of hearty food, and the endless coffee was great. The new team have some very exciting plans so I recommend that people follow them to find out about fun events. Looking forward to the restaurant being fully open early next year.

I gave this pub five stars because since new owners took over its become a much better place friendly and faultless with exceptional hospitality, it has a pub and restaurant with rooms to hire for over night stays . Will be definitely going back

Loved it. Yes it is simple. But it is a local pub with good grub, what more do you want!

Lovely location for camping. Small quiet field right by the pub. Quite secluded. Pub garden was lovely. Food could have been better but was edible. Staff were amenable.

A great pub, great friendly staff. A great campsite £10.00 without electric £25 with. Need wedges as slopes. Fabulous food. Within easy walking distance of Hook Norton and the Hook Norton Brewery
