We visited this restaurant today for breakfast. Delicious food, very nice service. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant.

We loved our night out here. The food was amazing and the staff were first class. We would recommend The Bowling Green Steakhouse to anyone that is looking for a great place to eat.

Very disappointed to see the bowling green have changed their menu, the sides have all been changed IMO for the worse, the lovely prawns are no longer available as a side, and you no longer get the onion rings, mushroom, or tomato with your steak, you now get more green leaf salad, with a Parmesan topping not my choice to go with a steak, but they tell me it’s popular, we used to go here regularly as a family of 4 adults, or just myself and my wife, I don’t honestly think we will be using it anymore which is sad, as we have been eating here for many years. Sometimes change is not always the best option.

We booked this based on the reviews we'd read and we were not disappointed. Its a bit of a walk uphill if you're walking up from Ashbourne town but its well worth the walk. This pub is a really friendly, I'd say oldy-worldly (on the inside), very dog friendly in the bar (and they have a nice restaurant area too). Very friendly locals and exceptional bar / food staff. They came to our table to take drinks orders, then food orders and made sure we were topped up with drinks all evening (which was great!) Food wise, we had the pork belly bites (which was the absolutely winner), we also had the ribs and a braised beef with mash. All of the food was very good and we would certainly come back here again.

Bowling Green for me is easily the best restaurant in Ashbourne! Eaten here many at dinner but this was the first time trying the breakfast menu out and it most certainly delivered! It really has something for everyone - full English, full Scottish, Vegetarian and American style pancakes. Food quality was outstanding and service was lovely and friendly as always.

Simple advice, get the brisket! I didn't, I got the rib eye, my wife got the brisket and could only manage half of it. So I got the rest and it was superb!

Dropped on this place for breakfast after leaving camp-site Veggie breakfast was divine Award winning veggie sausages out of this world Definitely recommend and go again. Male staff Member unfortunately don't know his name was very welcoming and accommodating

Fantastic food and service was excellent, came for my husband's birthday,starter was delicious, mushroom in creamy cheese and beer sauce was huge could have as a main, was so tasty, centre cut fillet steak was cooked to perfection.

Found on google for a stop off for food on the way home from a lovely day at Dovedale. Waited 30minutes for them to take our order, then another 40 minutes passed and still no food. On asking the waiter (who appeared scruffy) was greeted with attitude fuelled comments such as - we are not McDonalds and no idea how much longer the food would take. Such a shame as we were looking forward to dining here.

Worst Breakfast we have ever had... The bacon was so burnt it wasn't fit to eat, the sausage wasn't much better ... The pancakes my son had was covered in that much chocolate spread he would of been ill if he had eaten it... wouldn't recommend. But the young girls serving were very polite.

Only went in to have drinks and watch the match. Wife was a little upset that all the lagers on tap were of high volume alcohol.

We found this location on Trip Advisor and since we were in the area we decided to stop by for an early dinner on a Sunday. The venue was quite busy and seating was at a premium but we ordered at the bar and food arrived in good time. The staff were all very polite and personable. The bar had a good selection of drinks. I had a Surf n Turf pizza with scoop chips (chips shaped like scoops, not a scoop of chips, as I initially thought) and my wife had soup. We were both very pleased with our choices although I could see my wife was jealous at the king prawns on my pizza. Would definitely visit again.

My partner and I have just eaten the most succulent, tasty and incredibly yummy rump steak. 15oz medium to rare and 10oz well done superb. Superb service. Will definitely reccomend.

We had 2 fantastic meals today, Great taste a proper portion and really pleasent service, I would recommend you try it soon. If you like Steaks this is definitely one for you. The Chicken Balmoral is a particularly favourite and a change from the great Steaks and King prawn pasta.

Went here for our anniversary meal out and it did not disappoint. From the minute we walked in the staff were absolutely outstanding and couldn't do enough for us. They were all extremely friendly, efficient and professional. We had a right laugh with them about something that would take too long to explain, they were brilliant. The food was also exceptional. We had the sticky beef to share to start with, then I had the steak and blue cheese pizza, the wife had the surf and turf pizza and I portion of scoop fries to share, it was all fantastic. Credit to the staff, chefs and management for running a fantastic pub / restaurant.

Total shambles. In for a quick breakfast that took way too long and was undercooked. Never going back.

Staff were lovely, friendly and efficient. Starters and mains were truly delicious and massive portions. Desserts were a bit disappointing with the lemon meringue pie clearly shop bought but you will be so stuffed from the rest of the meal that it won't really matter.

The Bowling Green Steakhouse is a lovely pub/restaurant. Plenty of room so you’re not sat on top of the table next you. The staff are friendly and efficient. The food is tasty and they do serve large portions, so factor this is when ordering. I have to fast for a day if I want to have a starter, main and desert! It’s extremely sensibly priced too.

Amazing!! Driven past here so many times over the years but finally decided to give it a go and took my lad there for his birthday treat as he loves a steak. We both had the RibEye and I have to say it was probably one of the best I have ever had. Not an ounce of fat left on the plate. The extra of Haggis was a great touch, rarely seen but tasted lovely. Superb chips and onion rings. We were so full we didn't even manage another course. All the staff were really lovely and attentive and a credit to the restaurant which was also nicely decorated and fresh and inviting. I will certainly be back as well worth the trip out to Ashbourne. Thank you.

Popped into The Bowling Green after a long walk up the Tissington trail and we're welcomed by incredibly friendly staff who got us a table in the doggy friendly side. The food was absolutely delicious,triple cooked chips cooked to perfection and a fabulous piece of Cod, my partner had the Tomato Garlic & Chilli King Prawn Pasta which was amazing and quite a large serving. Thoroughly enjoyed visiting here and will most definitely be dropping in again

The food was amazing. We had the Christmas menu. I had mushrooms, beef dinner and brownie and the food was amazing. The only (small) issue we had was that our food felt quite slow to come out meaning we ate quite late.

After looking for a local restaurant during our stay near Ashbourne, we were glad that we found The Bowling Green. Fantastic steaks and drinks at a very reasonable price. Would not hesitate to return again in future.

Breakfast or evening meals tip top!! Evening meals, a menu with a difference. Best Breakfast we have had in many a year. Service with a smile and chefs were told that I would like to have their babies!! Well done team.

I’ve been going here regularly for food for well over a decade. Not your average pub food at all. The steaks are far far better than steakhouses that charge twice as much (nevermind average pub steaks) It’s gets busy (especially on the weekend) so book ahead if possible. Dog friendly in the bar area too. Highly recommended.

Delicious food, pleasant staff, lovely atmosphere. One of the best steaks I've had in this world, the center cut fillet (medium) was so good. A couple pints of beer were cool and refreshing. I was so full from my entrée I didn't order my own dessert, but the healthy portion of crème brûlée I took from my partner was wonderful. If you're even vaguely in the area, it's worth the trip.

We visited as we were on holiday in the area. What a fantastic restaurant. You can book online which is great as you can choose a time suitable to you. The service was excellent and the staff very helpful and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious and the best steaks we've had in a long time. A must visit and only 7 miles from where we were staying at rivendale retreat. The prices are very fair and reasonable. There is a customer car park opposite which is handy.

Nice food and friendly service but unfortunately the bar area where we were seated was rather cramped and loud; understandably we couldn't join the main dining area due to our dog, however some of our party weren't even at proper tables or chairs

Food was amazing, and the service was great. We went after already having a large lunch so only went for lighter options. But we intend to go back next time we are in the area to sample the steaks, which looked amazing.

Excellent food at reasonable prices, just up the hill going out of Ashbourne. Had to wait 35 mins for lamb shank but it did say on the menu it would be a longer wait than normal should you choose this dish. My wife said her steak was beautiful too.

Just ate a rare sirloin here and it's probably as good as anything you'll eat in the country right now.

Booked a table after seeing all the great reviews on line was really looking forward to eating there this evening..then waited for an hour for main course and when it did finally arrive got half way thru what was a beautiful steak when a table of 4 in the corner started messing about and one of the party kept making noises like he was bring up flem over and over again. Put me right off my food when I challenged him he said he was only having a laugh with his mates and to top it off the staff encouraged him ...WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT

Overall average. Our order got confused, which didn't help. Portions are large. The rare steak was medium well-done, the burger was overloaded with cheese and bacon and didn't really work.

Fabulous Sunday dinner after a lovely walk around Dovedale. Good value for money too. Staff are really nice and friendly, giving just the right amount of attention to customers without being smothering. Atmosphere in the bar was good, with a nice selection of beers to be had. Will definitely revisit when next in the area, no question.

Really good pub with excellent food menu. Went for my mums birthday on 13th November 2021. The staff were friendly, service was good and the portion sizes were huge. The food was really hot and fresh. Couldn't fault it at all. Definitely a must go to place. Excellent!

Good food staff great will be going again

We have been having Pizzas from the Bowling Green over lockdown and they have been amazing delivered on time and with a smile so we decided to eat in and try the full menu and the whole experience was a disappointment. Firstly we arrive and they didn’t seem to know about our booking even though we had a confirmation email. Once seated we ordered starter and main course. The starter garlic bread, lovely, and mushroom rarebit, terrible (2 mushrooms swimming is a vile sauce). Then mains came, mine a steak and a beef and beer pie. The steak was over done and the pie smelt strongly of kidney which at the end of the meal was assured there was no kidney in it. The dauphinois potatoes were was so tasteless. Altogether not good, as no check back until they came to clean away out plates. The meal was made worst by having a dining room full of noisy kids and inconsiderate parents. We won’t be visiting again in a hurry.

We discovered this gem from recommendations on Facebook. We had struggled to find somewhere for Sunday roasts initially. Wow we have found it!!! We are always made to feel welcome. The food is amazing the lamb is to die for. I’m excited for the summer as the outdoor area looks amazing and I know improvements are being made which I can’t wait for

After eating Sunday lunch here three times we decided to try a Friday evening. Four people each having a starter followed by a steak, scampi, lasagne, fish&chips. Everything was delicious, large portions extensive choice. Very quick friendly service. Will return.

We went here for valentines day we went for the set menu and was very surprised by the food for a set menu .it was lovely we invited our in laws down from Surrey and was not disappointed. Bill . Neil have always provided a good experience every time we have been here . We have been here a number of times and never have been disappointed. 3 course valentine's meal was excellent, good choice of food, good portion size and well presented. Bill is a great chef. Neil, Meg and there staff are very welcoming and friendly taking care of all your needs nothing ever seems to much trouble. Table 10 had a wonderful evening and we look forward to visiting again with more of our friends

We booked for my mother's birthday, as we are a large group. We all pre ordered our roasts . You can mix the meats up if you like. The food was lovely and the service was great ,not rushed at all.they also have a play area which my grandson love.i will definitely come back
