The Wykham Arms in Cherwell

Four golfing friends meeting up for a catch up lunch. Pretty much had the place to ourselves but made most welcome by our charming host. She couldn't do enough for us to make us feel at home. The beers and wine arrived quickly and we were given a very nice table. There is an excellent choice of starters - good enough and ample enough to have two starters instead of a main course - of which there was an excellent selection of dishes that were a little different to the norm. This place is faultless and rightly very popular with villagers from many miles around. Always worth another visit.

An absolutely little gem of a place. Food was excellent with a warm and inviting atmosphere, staff friendly and helpful. Location is beautiful set in on a country road with views over the countryside. Would highly recommend.

Fabulous Sunday lunch for 6 of us plus Reggie the Cocker Spaniel! Great friendly service, big portions, wonderful food and service. Coffee with homemade fudge ❤️

We had a meal here last night. My partner had the fish and chips and I had the burger. The food was amazing, location stunning and the staff were super friendly. Will definitely be recommending to any family and friends who come to the Cotswolds.

Had a great lunch and excellent real ales. Note though that prices on specimen menu on website are somewhat out of date.

We were going to have an evening meal here, but unfortunately they were short staffed so could only offer a very basic burger or fish & chips for dinner. It was a shame, as the pub and village were very nice. We settled for a round of drinks instead and then popped up the road to another pub that did serve a full range of food. The staff that were working that night were welcoming though and the wooded garden area out the back was a great place for children to run around and play.

We have just come back from a wonderful night's stay, we had 3 rooms and all of our party were impressed with the standard of the rooms and the breakfast which had everything from fresh fruit, granola and a choice of cooked breakfasts.The location couldn't be better, we were right in the centre of Winchester In the stunning area by the cathedral. Had the best night's stay.

Ordered Cornish sardines. Was horrified when they were served in their tin still swimming in oil with a piece of bread. Dreadful presentation. Just a measly slice of lemon. Having said that., the rest of my party seemed happy with their food.

Finding a suitable pub that was open on a Wednesday lunchtime - equi-distant from our three villages where we three chaps lived, was quite a challenge until we came across The Wykham Arms in the lovely Cotswold village of Sibford Gower. It used to be called the Moody Cow for some reason - but Wykham - its' original name we are told, sounds much better. Three chaps looking for little more than a pie and a pint were tempted into the far reaches of the menu when we saw it. Debbie, front of house gave us a very warm welcome and we presume husband Damian was doing his stuff in the kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be back before long with our wives. Moules we availailable as a starter or main course. Delicious.

8 of us and one child for Sunday lunch, it was a relaxed and very nice atmosphere. The service and food was excellent, we all recommend the pub and will go back if this way again

Excellent dinner on a Friday night before meeting up with family and friends for drinks in the lovely garden. It’s not a huge menu ( but this is a good thing ) but there was a good choice to suit everyone s tastebuds and pocket .Everything was really tasty and well cooked and presented well . Service was excellent and everyone was friendly and polite . The garden was pretty and well maintained and tables tidied and cleared quickly . The pub was very busy with takeaways too and everyone seemed to be enjoying the evening Wish we lived in the village .

We were on a visit from overseas and staying with family in Sibford Gower and decided to wander down to the local pub for dinner and were left wondering why we hadn't done this before. The place is a charming old property nicely preserved and maintained. We had a warm welcome from the lady landlord and most important of all a selection of well-presented and beautifully cooked and delicious meals. I was so pleased I was determined to make a recommendation on Tripadvisor.

The food was great if you don't have dietary requirements, and the pub had a nice feel. There's no vegan options though, so I wouldn't eat here if you are dairy free or vegan

Lovely local pub with good food and drinks

Popped in here by accident a few weeks ago and decided we would return for lunch. So glad we did! Relaxed friendly atmosphere and staff bent over backwards to make our experience all the better. We had delicious Camembert starter to share and then the surf&turf and fish cake with fries. The fish cake was the best ever and the steak super yummy cooked just right. The summer pudding took my partner back to his youth. All in all an amazing experience and would go back. Thanks you guys xx

I chose this location because of its rural location. A beautiful inn, in the middle of beautiful countryside. We were met by a warm smile and duly had great service by two busy ladies during our lunch. The food was excellent, freshly cooked, high quality cuisine with beautiful flavours. It would be nice to come here, eat and drink and then roadcycle the wonderful countryside. Thank you for a lovely time.

Very fine Sunday lunch in charming village in the most undiscovered corner of the Cotswolds.

Had a fabulous lunch with friends all had something different and 3 courses. The food was excellent my friends recommended the rice pudding.

Excellent atmosphere and food (we had skinny chips with truffle and Parmesan and the gem wedges) It was the first pub visit for our rescue puppy and he was welcomed by the pub Labrador. Definitely recommend

A first visit, lovely atmosphere and great food. Friendly service and worth the drive from north of Banbury. We loved every course, from sharing flatbread starter, to surf n turf: bavette steak cooked perfectly medium rare and served with prawns and piping hot crispy chips. We had sticky toffee pudding (him) and chocolate teardrop (me) for dessert. The home made honeycomb was excellent - as was the light chocolate mousse.

Live locally and has been a firm favourite for a while, excellent food and well run. Have tried a few other local pubs recently to try something else for a change but shouldn’t haven’t bothered as you guys are far better with much better food and service! Will be back again soon, best pub around!

Visited on the strength of reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. We received a warm and friendly welcome and enjoyed the most wonderful Sunday roast. We had roast beef with all the trimmings, followed by a wonderful apple strudel. Both were absolutely delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked and served beautifully. We would love to visit again, maybe to try an evening meal. All in all, well worth a visit and we would highly recommend.

After a local walk we stopped here for some lunch. Beautiful location and building. Staff very helpful and attentive. I ordered the cheese+chutney baguette - which was delicious. And the Windrush Ale from North Cotswold Brewery was delicious. Dropped a star for the long wait for my baguette. Lovely place - and I'd happily visit again.

Took some friends for a meal. Girls catch up. Really good food. The owners and staff all lovely and welcoming. For a nice relaxed meal out and good food it's perfect, as was the steak I had. Will be back soon

Our starter was sharing ribs. Genuinely the best ribs I've ever had! That stands up to any take away Chinese or Thai I have ever had. Our mains were chicken flatbread and suet steak and kidney pie. Both top notch! Add to this the lovely, friendly, attentive staff and you have yourself such a nice night out you want to tell everyone how good it was! So many thanks, you made my mates birthday!!

Simply divine! The pub itself is nestled in such a beautiful location, but that's not all it has to offer... Whilst enjoying the quaint village views, you can also tuck in to delicious food, in a cosy and friendly atmosphere. The lovely staff go above and beyond to give you a fabulous dining experience. The Thai curry is a firm favourite but I'd also highly recommend coming on a Sunday for a Wykham Arms Roast!

Loved this pub! We were a group of 7 blokes staying in the area for a long weekend and went here for lunch on the Friday. It was so good we came back again on Sunday. Great beer, superb food and excellent service!

Excellent ambience, very good homemade food

A great English country pub with good parking, friendly staff, a great menu and a broad selection of beers. There's a nice outdoor seating area, too. A book containing local walks around the Shipston area is often available for purchase and I highly recommend getting a copy. There's a lovely 4 mile walk within the book which starts from the pub and provides beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Loved it! Great village pub with great food and nice people. The youngsters serving were good fun and efficient. We had a table of 9 that they handled with ease. The food was delicious from an adventurous menu for all tastes. Good parking and Covid precautions.

A gorgeous thatched pub set in the beautiful cotswolds countryside serving delicious food.

Went for Sunday lunch recently. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Food excellent, well prepared and served with just the right size of portion. Although it was a Sunday the only "traditional" offering was roast beef. I thought there might have been more typical Sunday roast choices, but perhaps so soon after Covid restrictions being partially lifted they had not gone back to a full Sunday lunch menu. However, the beef and trimmings were great, as was the raspberry mille-feuille. The pea and ham soup was good too as was the car starter.We hadn't been for ages but will certainly go back again.

We called here for the first time the other day for lunch. It's an attractive building in an attractive village. Very friendly staff, and the food was [mainly] excellent and beautiful. I would recommend it wholeheartedly, except that what would have been a very relaxing lunchtime experience was marred rather by some jangly piped music. Admittedly it was playing fairly quietly - but it was still jangly! Mercifully a large and chatty party arrived and drowned it out....

Super place to stop for lunch half way round the Ironstone Villages cycle trail. Lovely pub with enclosed and quiet outside tables. Really friendly and efficient staff, good selection of hand pump ales and extremely scrumpy food. Would recommend the Korean ribs.

Just back from a weekend in Sibford, where we enjoyed wonderful Friday night drinks and dinner at The Wykham Arms. Super-friendly and attentive service, a cosy courtyard garden and really good food (a surprising number of vegetarian options too!). We'll definitely visit again on our next trip.

Great out-of-the- way pub doing its best under Covid rules for a sunny but chilly outside lunch. Food very good. Delicious korean ribs starter, although didn't notice may have been over-charged for four small ribs for £12. Also excellent local ale. Service a bit erratic. Second round of beer never came. Given the chill, had excellent coffee instead. Will return for full dinner menu sometime when conditions closer to normal.

We were looking forward to eating out again and certainly made the right choice.Thank you Debbie for your warm welcome,excellent service and you even made the pud,which was amazing.Korean ribs and musssel starters were faultless, followed by nicely cooked steaks and we will give the yummy pud another mention.Highly recommended...

We enjoyed a light lunch at this traditional country pub recently and the food and ambience were excellent The pub has an idyllic situation and the Manor House directly opposite is the house where Ivor Novello wrote Keep the Home Fires Burning The landlady made us very welcome and I would highly recommend a visit

A warm welcome, good COVID measures and excellent food.This pub looked after us so well having booked a table for 5 and a dog. The beer range was limited but likely due to COVID and the wine was apparently very nice. My wife's veggie burger was as good as it gets, my sons fish and chips was superb and my mussels, ribs and fries were delicious. A fine feast for a Saturday afternoon. Thanks

We stayed in Sibford Gower for three nights we had Lunch/Dinner at The Wykham Arms the food was amazing all freshly prepared all variety to cater for everyone. Our Host Debbie was awesome this is a perfect gem in a beautiful village.It’s very cosy they have a wood fire stove that we sat around and had a few drinks just how a country pub should be !!You should eat and drink here you will not be disappointed !!Thank You !!

We were a party of 8 with 3 dogs and had booked the day before for lunch as we were glamping nearby. We were all made to feel so welcome, and the food was great( in fact my mum said it was the best burger she had ever had and she's 70!) If you are in the area, pop in to this beautiful thatched pub, you will not regret it😁

Unreliable restaurant, disappointing evening for a family even if we called before and asked for menu, nearly nothing available. Poor service but friendly staff and comfy atmosphere.

First meal after lockdown, food still excellent including vegetarian and vegan options. Very good social distancing - one way through the pub and tables separated. Will go again soon.

Traditional British Pub. Good menu to suit all tastes. Easy car parking. Easy access. Helpful staff. Good Wcs. Ideal for a break when on a country walk enjoying the many footpaths joining this village with Burdrop and Sibford Ferris.

Booked a table 8 of us ,for a family meet up for a early Christmas lunch, we had different starters but we had beef and turkey with all the trimmings , vegetables beautiful cooked , staff were friendly and helpful as they were very busy.

We had three different starters between the four of us, but we all had the turkey with all the trimmings. It was excellent - the turkey was succulent and flavoursome and the root vegetables beautifully cooked.The service was friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere warm and very pleasant. This is all that a country pub/restaurant should be.

I like the Wykham - it's a beautiful little pub and has a nice atmosphere. The menu is a bit random. My starter was squid, it was kind of rubbery and only about two forkfuls in the dish which cost £9, this seemed really expensive for what you received. The main was gorgeous though, couldn't fault it and was priced reasonably. I'd return if in the area again as the main was good and the wines on offer were lovely.

Came here as a table of 6 on Saturday night. Could not fault the food. All 6 of us got three courses and thoroughly enjoyed all the food. Service however got slower and slower as the evening went on. Would however return for the food alone.

A beautiful traditional English pub set in the heart of rural Oxfordshire.

We hadn’t been for years and decided to go for an evening meal. It was very quiet but the service and the food were excellent.

Just called in for a table for two for Sunday lunch, food delicious,I’ve had white bait, roast beef and trifle for pudding, staff were polite and helpful.

5 of us went for lunch and had a great experience. The food was exceptional. One of our party had the veggie burger and said it was flavoursome and nicely moist. Two of the party said the fish and chips were very good. My wife and I had the Thai green curry and it was excellent. Coupled with a range of craft beers, well worth a visit.

We were a large group and the Wykham Arms were able to accommodate us perfectly and with excellent service.
