Castle at Edgehill in Cherwell

We booked here for two reasons, it was convenient on a very long journey for a break and Menu had a decent Gluten free option, All I can say is what a find, Food was fabulous and for what we received we felt was reasonably priced, Staff and service were also excellent, as this place is only 1 1/2 hours from home we will certainly return, forgot to mention the views from the Restuarant are also amazing

Recently, I came into The Castle with high expectations from various recommendations and I must say, I definitely wasn’t disappointed! Our meals included the slow cooked beef, fish and chips and the ribeye steak. All of which were absolutely incredible and cooked to perfection! Another reason our experience was so good was our sever, Neli. She managed to cater to each and every one of our requests and provided a welcoming vibe as well! We definitely plan to visit again. Took my mum who is in a wheelchair user for her birthday today for afternoon tea. What a fantastic find , spectacular views amazing rooms , the staff were very helpful . The afternoon Tea was very good value, infact we took cakes home with us . Recommend for a romantic weekend away also. Really lovely day

Had a dinner with my family and a toddler in tow. The staff were lovely and the food was excellent. The portion size is enormous. I had the beet gnocchi while the others had fish & chips and steak as it was steak night. We walked out belly first! I tried a Gin cocktail and it was house made gin from the Gin school they run. It was delicious! Would definitely recommend!!

As a family myself,my wife and my daughter went for Mother’s Day, we were really looking forward to it.Everything was great we ordered our food three roast beef dinner’s with all the trimmings, unfortunately when they arrived the meat was cold as were some of the vegetables,the waitress said she would change all three dinners for us and the meat was probably cold as we ordered it medium/rare which I thought was strange. The location is great, I can't say anything about the service or rooms as I didn't go in.

Ate around 1245pm at 330pm after having awful tummy aches had violent diarrhoea! Only ate the Fish Sandwich. No point complaining they won't do anything customer service apart from the bar staff and dark haired waitress is awful. Had to take immediate medication to stop my upset tummy. Salad also was old with brown marks and slimy. My friend ordered cheese sandwich we've NEVER in our life had cheese served up like 1cm cubes of tiny cheese!!!! It looked like Sweetcorn in a sandwich! If they couldn't accommodate with proper mature Cheddar then say so don't dish up baby portions!!! I've lived in the area over 40 years often pop over for food this is now the SECOND bad meal the last one was fish bones served up in the pate which the chef said shouldn't be dangerous but couldn't guarantee as they don't make it !!! So I'm thinking quite a bit us brought in they just put together. Anyway unfortunately we'll stick with other pubs and restaurants as the owners don't really care about the odd bad review. I never complain we even paid almost 4.00 tip BUT this time I've had enough as it made me so poorly. The blonde waitress makes ypu feel like you should not complain and is way iver the top! Mrs JAR

What a stunning location but what really made our stay were the lovely team. So welcoming and friendly, knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed a delicious dinner with an excellent breakfast next morning before we departed. Booking essential as there are not many rooms and the restaurant was extremely popular with locals. Situated close to Banbury.

Passed this place a number of times and chose as a destination for lunch today. Table by a roaring fire free when we arrived but was pre booked. Barman showed us through to the narrow conservatory at the rear and could not be disappointed with the fabulous view below and in front of us of the Edgehill battlefield.....fab Lunch also didn't disappoint, we had a shared starter of bread, olives, sun dried tomatoes, pickles, etc, and then I had a venison burger with goat cheese, relishes and fries. Hubby had fish and chips with peas, and we were pleasantly full. Pudding menu offered and accepted, just for a look but decided on the mixed fruit crumble with custard and the pear flan with ice cream Food and service very good and will be back

Had a lovely birthday treat here with my husband and dog, great food and drink. Room was very cosy, but quite adequate for the night. Breakfast room has stunning views over hills. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Great place for all, dogs, children and looks great for Sunday roasts, dog friendly with great walk through woods and fields. Will like to go back again and stay in another room as the Verney is very abit claustrophobic

Stayed over for 1 night with family as a pit stop. The rooms were fantastic, the bar was cozy and well priced. Dinner and breakfast the next morning was fantastic. Great view from the restaurant overlooking the farms below. Staff we very accommodating and professional. Definitely worth the stay.

A wonderful lunch, served in the glass room, with wonderful views of the countryside. For a girls’ lunch, we wanted somewhere special and we certainly weren’t disappointed. The menu has an excellent selection of starters, main courses and desserts. The food, when it arrived, was work of art and absolutely delicious. The desserts were also gorgeous, the drinks, not overpriced. The service was also very good. A lovely restaurant to spend a Monday afternoon in.

We booked a table to have Sunday lunch following a dog walk in the local area. We came her 4 years ago and had a fabulous Sunday roast so I was looking forward to coming again - til I read the recent trip advisor reviews! I’m wondering what went wrong for these people, as yet again our meal was totally delicious. Massive yorkie, tasty roast veg, melt in the mouth beef and the tastiest gravy I’ve ever had. Could’ve licked the plate! My only complaint is some of the pricing - £4.95 for cauliflower cheese which I think should be included on a £20 roast, and £7.95 for a dessert is outrageous so we didn’t have one. I just refuse to pay that on principle when a portion of crumble costs pennies to make. Anyway, I’d still put the roast dinner here in my top 3 (and we have a lot of pub roast dinners!)

Food was very very poor undercooked beef and 1 parsnip and carrot slice a dribble of gravy to accompany a dry crunchy Yorkshire pudding and 3 ( well aunt Bessie are better) awful potatoe half's for £20 6 people over £250 for a starter a roast and drink for a meal I would never want to experience again and don't fall for the do you want water on the table as you sit because its £4 a bottle 😕

Very disappointed in brought in Yorkshire puddings. I had the trio of meats so paying nearly 25 pounds to have brought in Yorkshire puddings is a joke! They ran out of pigs and blankets. Customer service wasn't great I had to ask for menus and to be served not very happy. Will go to the Herb Centre more than half the price and better quality and home made Yorkshire puddings!

Came for afternoon tea with my nan, who has recently been registered as blind. the staff were absolutely incredible in making sure my nan knew where she was going and that there wasn’t any obstacles in her way. We were seated and the view was stunning. The room was so light as well which helped my nan see! We got served with a pot of tea straight away and the afternoon tea arrived promptly after. Absolutely delicious every single bit! The staff told us what was on each layers, whats in the sandwiches, what cakes etc, a small touch but was really nice. The staff kept asking if we wanted re fills of our tea pot, milk or sugar, and were very attentive! The afternoon tea was absolutely incredible, the BEST one ive ever had! The staff, view and food all round 10/10! Would definitely recommend, a very reasonable price too!!!

I can't praise this venue enough. We had a private function in the beautiful room with huge windows overlooking the countryside. The room is tastefully presented and the window opens so you can stand in the fresh air and admire the scenery. We went in the afternoon for a very late lunch. The food was exceptional and there was something for everyone - from more traditional dishes to things that are a bit more unusual such as the crayfish linguine. All eight of us enjoyed it immensely. We ate a lot and could not manage pudding but will return another time! The staff were both discrete and attentive and very accommodating of us through the afternoon, doing everything they could to meet our evolving needs! Little acts of kindness were really appreciated such as bringing our drinks from the restaurant to the lounge area when one of our party needed somewhere a little less formal to relax away from the excitement of our event!! I am not someone who automatically pays tips but I had absolutely no hesitation here. All the staff were brilliant and made us feel very welcome. We will be repeat customers. Thank you to you all for making our day extra special.

Beautiful, exciting food made this a wonderful experience. Lovely menu, stunning views, friendly and attentive staff and they even make their own gin! Tenderloin of pork with peach purée and blackberries was divine. Didn’t want a dessert but coconut pana cotta with passion fruit ice-cream soon changed that idea.

Lovely setting but extremely over priced. We had a coke, shandy, glass of wine and a kids cordial and it was over £20. No idea where they get their prices from but couldn’t afford to stay for another drink.

Good service, shocking prices. £8 for a sausage bap which consisted of an average sized white bap with one sausage cut in half in. Quite frankly a rip off when a full English was £16 (expensive in its own right). Disappointed.

What a great location. We attended Gin School in the tower (another story) as part of my 50th Birthday calibrations! To cap it off, we booked a table for 2 in the restaurant & WOW what a view. The great views and excellent serving staff did not make up for the poor quality of some of our order. The whatebate fish in the starter had been sprayed with breadcrumbs and crisped just awful! The 'todays special' Caesar salad consisted of a deconstructed pile of lettuce with three small pots, containing cheese, dressing and anchovies with a pile of croutons on the side and some chicken slices it all looked so unappetising. It was also served on a plate rather than a bowl so you couldn't even mix it yourself without spreading it around. Just do not see the point of serving a salad that has not been dressed There seems to be a bit of an obsession with serving everything in small pots with the meal, and these pots look a lot smaller than what's on the photographs on the website. Just don't see the point of tiny portions in pots with a meal. Two of our mains were quite acceptable, but you don't book a table with the expectation that only half the food presented to you is of good quality so won't be returning here again

As far as the setting and the superb views go they are only matched by the service and food. A wonderful restaurant and pub that’s steeped in history, a truly unique experience
