Been given a face lift and it looks great. They look after their drinks, they have food trucks on a few days a week. Looking forward to a summer pint in the garden.

Popped down for a few drinks for my wife's birthday. What a night! This is a jem of a pub, a true old school local with great staff and amazing landlady that has such an amazing sense of humour. All the staff clearly enjoy working here and the locals that clearly enjoyed there evening. Sky football on the a raffle draw and some really fun kareoke. This place knows how to party

Me mudé a Yarnton en mayo, pero debido a Covid, el pub estaba cerrado. Mi hija y yo hemos visitado dos veces este mes y lo encontramos extremadamente acogedor con las precauciones adecuadas de Covid en su lugar. Personal encantador con excelente comida! ! We had a meal here today pub little shabby but did not let this deter because we have had lovely food from shabbier places ...but should have !! Waited 30 minutes for our food but thought never mind as at least the food would be fresh ..no such luck . To be fair the bar lady apologised for the delay as the chef was making fresh coleslaw ..which I have to say was lovely .., Husband had scampi and thick chips .. to be fair he said it was nice and it was hot .., Son had homemade burger and French fries ....I had chicken burger and French fries ....both French fries were stone cold and the chicken burger both looked and tasted disgusting ....I would not have fed it to a dog if I had one .. it was dried up and insulted the salad that came with it .., The whole experience was very rough and ready as was the thing in my bun which they called chicken ...it was indeed rough and very ready for the bin !

Had a Sunday roast at the red lion today, and I have never had a better roast at a pub! Was delicious, comes with a lovely selection of vegetables, a giant Yorkshire pudding and plenty of gravy😋would highly recommend!!

The pub has the feel of a real "local", but was still very welcoming to us as a group of walkers. 17 of us had lunch here. We preordered of course, but the food was good and filling. We had the pie of the day with chips and peas, with an extra helping of gravy. We shall be back again sometime for another walk.

My husband and I discovered this place and we love it! Its a nice local bar with good food and drinks.

Had very enjoyable here last night playing a pre season match. Very friendly and efficient bar staff and good choice of beers. Large outdoor space and pub games and tv screens to watch the sports etc. We were treated to a very good Chilli Con Carne with rice after the match. Friendly locals and good atmosphere. Worth calling in if you’re in the area.

I play for the Red Lion pool team and always really enjoy myself here. Staff are friendly and there's a sense of community among the visitors. There's a decent selection of drinks, along with fireplace and big garden with a view of fields.

Atmosfera tranquilla e non chiassosa, locale pulito e personale gentile. Ottimi i prezzi per i menù anche serali, abbiamo speso davvero poco con piatti abbondanti. Era tutto piuttosto buono, ma con qualche pecca come i piselli quasi crudi e i nachos gommosi.

Great friendly pub lovely garden and food

Lovely pub with a nice garden and friendly staff. The large car park has now been turned into a couple of new houses which is a bit sad, but will go back again!

Unfriendly, unwelcoming, went for Sunday lunch, poured out drinks then said they couldnt take order for food as they had reservations (for people who hadn't even turned up, pub was half empty). Travelled over ten miles to visit but won't be going out of my way again.

This is a great village pub. I live in the village and often go to The Red Lion for lunch. The food is excellent and is such good value. Sunday lunch is a favourite too.

When I called in, looked like a busy, friendly local with a lovely sunny garden (on sunny days).

Friendly staff, good beer, a fun evening with karaoke. There are also a pool table, dartboard, and two large televisions that were on earlier in the evening to show a major football game. I didn't try the food so I cannot comment on that. The decor is a little tired but otherwise it's a good basic local pub.

Went for a game of Aunt Sally ( mad Oxfordshire game ) last night and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The landlady and the staff were very friendly and also very efficient . At the end of the match we had really good sandwiches and hot spicy potato wedges. Good selection of beers at reasonable prices. Good atmosphere in the pub and friendly locals. Evidently they also have a good reputation for food as well which l hope to try in the future.

I live in Woodstock and over the last year have visited this pub many times. The atmosphere is what I would describe as fun ... really friendly staff, music, pool table and theme nights. Having never eaten here I thought I would try the Sunday lunch. With a choice of 4 meats I chose the lamb. The portion was very generous and the food was lovely.....definitely recommended. Thank you Kerry, Jamie and Louis.

We enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch with family and friends to celebrate our cousin's 70th Birthday. We chose the roast beef which was very tender and was served with a large Yorkshire pudding and plenty of hot roast potatoes and vegetables. This was a superb lunch. The service was excellent!

Perfectly satisfactory pub grub, not haute cuisine, but we weren’t expecting that. Sausage and chips, pint of bitter, packet of crisps ... just like country pubs used to be before they got all “bistro” and “boutique”.

A group of us had a warm welcome to the pub. It was our first visit since the management had changed. We were able to preorder and return to the pub after our walk. We had reserved tables, but the food took a while to come. On the whole it was fairly standard pub food, but it was welcome after a long walk.

We've come to the Red Lion off and on during our summer visits to the area over the last 10 years, and have seen more than a few managements come and go. The place is not on the main roads, which may increase the difficulty of achieving success. But, judging from our first visit under the current management, long-term success is surely in the offing. We enjoyed the beer and the food. The menu offers a relatively short list of standard pub offerings, but the starters and mains we had possessed a bit of extra flair that we would not have expected for the price. For example, the lasagna was excellent. In general, the place buzzed with happy chatter, and we found its service and ambience preferable to that of several more pretentious pub/restaurants nearby.

Had an end of holiday family get together for Sunday lunch here. Food was superb and such good value for money. Roast potatoes were particularly awesome as was the cheesecake. Service was very friendly and quick and the whole family had a great time. If you are looking for a family friendly pub that serves quality food that doesn't cost a small mortgage then this is the place for you. I cannot rate it highly enough A******

Just had a lovely Sunday Roast at the Red Lion. Food was really good especially the apple crumble and custard. Staff were great and there was a god family atmosphere. Kids are welcome and their menu has a good choice. Will hope to return during the week

I came to the red lion a few months ago and really wasn't impressed, driving through Yarnton a few months later I saw a sign out the front of the pub advertising soon to be open under new management, I came back to the red lion for the re-opening after refurbishment and it had been completely transformed! It was no longer a cold and unwelcoming pub, but to a pleasant surprise it had been redecorated and the atmosphere had completely changed! The new land ladies are absolutely fantastic and very friendly and welcoming to everyone I saw come into the pub, It has really been turned back into the local friendly pub that Yarnton needed! The land ladies were very chatty and polite and made sure everything I needed was taken care of, the food was brilliant and overall the pub is now a warm welcoming place with very friendly locals to chat with, very clean and looked after perfect for couples, families and anyone looking for a day or few hours out!

After hearing this pub had been recently taken over, we popped in to have a look. To our surprise the pub was packed. Never seen it before. Great atmosphere and friendly staff and customers.

We had a lovely surprise 90th birthday party at the Red Lion with 20 guests, and Jimmy made very effort to make sure we had an enjoyable time. He organised roast dinners for us even though it was a Saturday and the portions were very substantial. The desserts were delicious. The venue was perfect for a family party and the children were able to let off steam in the garden. Thank you Jimmy!

The food was excellent. I have tended, finely carved lamb, with a rich gravy. Mum had a small portion, which they added extra too!. Charming, helpful, staff.

Arrived on a Sunday to find it reasonably busy, usually a good sign. Were told there were no tables for at least an hour so decided to have a drink to wait. Remarkably we were offered a table after 30 minutes much to our delight.

Cash only which struck us as very odd; when queried we were told that they 'don't have a card machine' and 'it is always cash only'.....pizzas were ok but nothing special (bases a bit 'doughy'); the roast dinners that others were having looked good and were massive portions. Very polite and pleasant service. Nice music playing and a pleasant place to while away a couple of hours - just remember to take cash!

Friendly service, decent food (mostly Italian-style but they also do other things - stupendous cheesecake, for example), good prices, and exceptionally helpful owners. A few minutes' drive north of Oxford. Highly recommended.

A group of us had lunch at the pub, and chose from the menu. The main choices made were lasagne or penne bolognaise. The lasagne came with chips and a little salad, but the penne bolognaise could have done with something like a salad to give it a bit more variety. The food was only average pub food. The menu also offered a number of pizza dishes, but we did not try these. The service was however firendly and reasonably prompt, although the meals were served in two batches - so some people had to wait a while for their meals.

Parents and I popped in for a quick bite to eat as the Turnpike was full. The Red Lion didn't have what I wanted on the menu but they still made it! Beautiful. Great food, awesome customer services, nothing was too much trouble for them. Can't praise them enough.

Excellent food and service. Have been here several times as it's my local and I would definitely recommend it. It's perfect for families and dogs as well as a quiet meal with my wife. Staff are very friendly and helpful and all the meals I have had have been delicious.

Ah, what a great place! I ate a meal and had a pint in the back garden at the Red Lion today after work. I could see acres of rolling fields from where I sat, and could hear all sorts of birds. The service was great, and the food was tasty. I was impressed that the proprietor got both of the items I ordered -- a goat-cheese-mushroom starter and a plate of chips -- cooked so well. Many pubs can only handle either the high cuisine or the junk-food, but here I had both perfect salad and nicely browned chips. The Red Lion is just around the corner from the stop for the S3 bus, so, while you can't hear the buses while you eat, you can get on the bus very easily once you've finished. All that, and they have a creamy bitter on tap. I don't really know what could be improved.
