Black Horse in Cherwell

We took my 91 year old disabled mother and sister in law over from Spain out for lunch to the Black Horse in Kidlington. What a great experience the staff were amazing the food was exceptional. You could not get better value for money anywhere around Oxford. Thank you very much for a wonderful time.

Three of us had the two course senior menu, excellent food, well cooked and presented. Delicious desserts. Great service, friendly staff. Definitely good value for money

The food was really good this evening. Had the guest burger and it was fantastic. The wife had the Katsu Curry and was also really good. Can be hit and miss but was very impressed tonight. Defo the best pub grub in the village.

Pies are amazing! Booked originally for two but had a extra person added, that was no problem at all. Service was great. Food was great.We had a selection of the starter’s/ sharing plates , all were well presented and very yummy! Mains were the pies. Oh they definitely were the star of the show. Only thing that let it down was the mash potato, it was edible but just felt it lacked texture. Other than that it was delicious! Definitely will return again!

i went in with family and tried one of the burgers of the month the kiev burger and it was amazing can’t wait to try the next, staff was super friendly and really helpful, quick service too.

Had meals from senior menu. Actually not impressed. My food was OK but friends not so and staff were apologetic and gave her a refund. However. Its greene king that ought to be ashamed. Thought seniors were just getting a bit of a discount. Not less than half the portion. Big rip off. Praise the staff immensely. Very good service

Having been to another Greene King Pub in London the previous week for lunch where the meal and service was very indifferent this was a refreshing surprise. We had booked a table for 1215 and the lady serving said there would be a 30 minute wait for food as they had a new chef. That didn't bother us as live football was being shown. My daughter and I ordered a sirloin steak. This was nice and came with a garlic and mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked as ordered and was quite nice. We followed up with a fruit crumble and custard. This was very nice. The service was excellent. Will definitely visit again. The contrast from my previous visit to a Greene King Pub was so very different.

I had the email and thought the idea of the Chicken Kyiv burger sounded interesting so we decided to take a trip out with the dog for a drink and lunch on a Saturday afternoon, we weren’t disappointed very tasty and great value for money.

We tried one of their new monthly burgers today and they were delicious. Lovely, inviting pub with great friendly staff. We even took our pup who was made to feel very welcome

I regularly visit the Black Horse pub. It is an enjoyable and pleasant place to go to spend time with friends. The pub shows a good variety of sport with a good variety of drinks to choose from. The tables are always clean and tidy with the pub looking very nice and welcoming. My one complaint would be often there is a lack of bar staff tending the bar as I’ve noticed they spend lots of time in the kitchen and I’ve waited in excess of 15 minutes with nobody coming to the bar to check if there was any customers. Even with this, I would definitely recommend this pub for an evening out.

What a wonderful pub/restaurant, we spent the day here watching the six nations . The staff were inpecable couldnt do enough for us. A great atmosphere and the food was delicious. Shall definitely be returning after such a warm welcome .

We went there based on reviews on Google. I don't understand. One of the waitresses was the only one to manage the whole room, so it was unpleasant and the food was not good. Neither good products nor well cooked. To avoid.

Quite an indifferent review. Neither bad, poor or good. Food was okay, it was busy, but maybe served a tad hotter.. pleasant staff, happy to please, noisy when busy.

we arrived late in the day so quickly ordered food before the kitchen closed - service was quick and the staff were really friendly - everyone's food looked good (most had steaks), my burger was lovely & I particularly liked the bbq sauce in the pot.

Over the years, we have visited the Black Horse on many occasions, and it never disappoints. We went last Saturday lunchtime (20th Jan) a particularly busy day, as Arsenal were playing Chrystal Palace, so it was fairly packed out with supporters. However, we were greeted warmly by the two ladies by the bar, one I now know was called Caitlin, who couldn't be more helpful and pleasant, notwithstanding how busy they were, they were great and had time for pleasantries. They took our lunch orders, and it was served quickly, and to our liking. This has always been a warm, welcoming friendly pub, and is well known and popular with the locals. The food prices are very reasonable and the menu is varied, and suitable for all tastes. They welcome children, and dogs. Always a popular venue, and I see no reason why we wont keep going back.

We booked for Christmas lunch as we had a great experience last year, unfortunately we were disappointed this year. We had starters and then we waited about an hour for main course which was mostly overdone the potatoes and parsnips were inedible. The staff were not polite or attentive, not caring if we had sugar or sweeteners with our coffee. I got the feeling that this is a 'regulars' pub and as we are not regulars, received a second class service! Will be booking elsewhere next year.

The Christmas meal was delicious and service was excellent. We had a great evening and will be returning soon

Breakfast with santa. Absolutely fantastic. Such a lovely atmosphere all of the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. It was well organised and ran like clockwork from beginning to the moment we left. Food was delicious. The children really enjoyed themselves. We will be going every year now.

I popped into the Black Horse at about 2.30pm, while I was having my car serviced at the Motor Park to the North Of Kidlington. This is s large spacious pub, with lots of seating. I had a burger and a small beer, which was exactly what I was looking for. Nothing to complain about here.

We visited here for the breakfast with Santa had never done this before so was not sure what to expect. On arrival we were welcomed by a lovely friendly lady who showed us directly to our table. We ordered our breakfast which when was delivered was really lovely and great value there was no quibble at all when we wanted to swap certain on items of the breakfast. Santa came to the table but unfortunately my grand daughter was terrified of him lol but she is only two. My older grand daughter loved it and really enjoyed the snowman hunt they both got really nice gift each a book and selection pack which really made this a great value experience. We would like to thank all the staff for making it such a lovely morning we felt so festive after...really loved Santa's grotto and got some great pics we will definitely book for next year and hopefully Santa will be in favor. Thank you all you are a real asset to the company.

We met Santa for breakfast on Sunday and it was lovely. A warm and friendly atmosphere, games and treats for the children and chat with Father Christmas. The breakfast was delicious (best bacon ever according to my son) and brilliant value for money. The two ladies running it were super friendly and enthusiastic. It felt like a proper treat. Thank you Black Horse Team - you were awesome.

Visited for a work Christmas party. Great atmosphere, great service and good food. The team worked really hard to feed us and keep the drinks flowing. I’m Sure we will be booking again next year

Well it was a chance find as our plans went wrong but what a wonderful pub, friendly staff that could not do enough for you, quick service and beautiful food, I wish it was my local pub.

Excellent meals at this delightful pub. Very friendly service and really good service. We enjoyed the atmosphere & music. We had Gammon steak with chips, peas egg and pinapple. This was cook to perfection and really tasty.

Food was great, very covid safe, orders taken and food brought out with staff wearing masks and gloves, very good set up. Will definitely be going again. Not as good this time.

Visited the other week with friends. We enjoyed a selection of food including mains, sides and puddings. Everybody commented on how nice their meals were, and I have to say my burger was very juicy and tasty! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and we look forward to visiting again!

This is a lovely pub with very friendly staff especially Kate. The chicken katsu is slush, would definitely return again.

Went for Sunday lunch. Had to wait 40 minutes before food arrived, which we weren't told about before we ordered. The food looked great but was cold/lukewarm when served.

We stopped in here for a nightcap before we returned to our Airbnb. Unfortunately, the kitchen was closed, but the staff was amazingly friendly. They made us feel right at home, they educated us on the UK as well.

Not bad food. Fish and chips was okay. Fish wasn't very big. Hunters chicken was good. The pulled pork tacos came cool and so did the chicken mango ans lime but has a good bit of spice to it. Drinks rather expensive.

Amazing experience, really welcoming staff and nice atmosphere. The lady behind the bar (think her name was Katie or Caitlin...) was lovely, welcoming and fast to serve. Also helped us to choose out different drinks to try. Would highly recommend to others.

Sat in the garden, nice and clean with umbrella for shade. Food was nice, well presented, although the vegetables could have been hotter. Staff are lovely, friendly and helpful. Used the app to order food and drinks and it all arrived quite quickly.

Called in soaking wet ( typical British summers day!) to a warm friendly welcome and handed a roll of blue towel to dry us off. Drinks and food excellent value!

Such a lovely place with pleasant servant. They were so kind and even suggested to have a taste of all kind of beer to choose something I like. Finally local IPA was brilliant. Atmosphere is cozy. Worth visiting without doubt.

Was stared at by a member of staff while parking & when he was having his break I presume! Then member of staff cudnt sort meal offer, got tip off manager still wasn't working, another member behind the bar, ignored his ask for help!
