J.T. Davies in Cherwell

I came to JT Davies looking for a nice, quiet place to have a drink. If that’s what your after I wouldn’t recommend. Some of the customers that are allowed in to this establishment look as if they’ve been on the streets for weeks, loud mouthed and not approachable. When I got to the bar there was a young male with an accent speaking really quiet. He asked us to scan a QR code which I kindly said I couldn’t and if there was an alternative option to leave my track and trace details. He told me not to worry about it.?? How would I have been contacted if COVID had taken place? I came back in the afternoon and another gentleman was on bar, seemed to know what he was doing and allowed me to write my details down in a book. Better service in the afternoon by a mile. There were glasses left outside from my first visit and when I returned in the afternoon they were still on the table. They really need to up there game as this pub has huge potential !!

Had a quick look on here before coming and we were not disappointed! Bought my son down for his 18th Birthday and was greeted by a lovely young women with a smile. She loved to have a joke and a laugh with us.... everything was done to accommodate our visit and nothing was to big of an ask! Everything was lovely and clean and Covid-19 measures were followed from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. I would recommend JT Davies to anybody looking for a nice venue for any sort of celebration! Will be returning for my daughter’s 16th birthday I’m September without a doubt!

From Northampton visited this pub with my partner for a drink. The front ivy to the front of this pub is striking. Lovely planting and welcoming staff. It was also reassuring in such an uncertain environment to see sanitiser situated in various places within the pub and signs to show distancing measures are taken. Competed the track and trace as you’d expect. Great choice of drink.Will be coming back to this great little find.

I came down with my three young kids for food. Excellent service, food was amazing and great value for money!!! Staff very friendly. Will definitely be coming again

Fantastic pub. Brilliant atmosphere and the staff are very welcoming. Alway recommend food to people always fresh and hot. Landlord and landlady very welcoming.

some staff members not dressed appropriately, trousers half way down their bums. Not suitable footwear, noticed one member, young male wearing sliders and jogger shorts. Friend asked for a coffee as she couldn't drink, early afternoon and young male didn't know how to use coffee machine, had to wait. Bar side was sticky and obviously hadn't been cleaned for awhile. They have shields at bar but members of public wasn't stood behind them and still being served was not told to move and no noticeable hand sanitizer and wasn't shown or advised to use them. And alot of glasses left outside for a long time. Could be a great pub if standards were better and followed covid rules. Second time to bar, young lady served with a smile and was pleasant, only positive thing i can say about my afternoon/evening visit. Traveled to Banbury from Oxford for a few drinks with friends. Didn't stay long, few hours. Moved to other pubs.

We had the pleasure of visiting this establishment today. Great food and service, at very reasonable prices. Covid-19 measures are well respected, and we felt really at ease. Thank you. See you again soon!

So glad we were only having drinks , everything looked un loved & not very clean . The pen given to me to leave my contact details for Covid tracing was so sticky and was probably contaminated with every bug / virus known to man ( yuk) I immediately sanitised my hands with my own as I couldn’t see any supplied ( maybe I just missed it) Took the drinks out side to find filthy outdoor seating . Some tables remained uncleared for our entire visit . Doubt if I’d ever return, and certainly advise people to avoid !

We went today for a family birthday breakfast, as our previous visit was so good. Checked the website and it states open Sunday 9 am to 2am? Called the number just before 11 to see why the door was locked to be informed they open at 12??? Get your website updated, we had arranged to meet 20 family members there today! That’s a lot of missed custom for you, and a pain for us

Enjoyed a great Sunday lunch with friends. All fresh ingredients and well presented. Felt like having lunch in someone’s home. Great value as well. Really friendly welcome and excellent beer as well!!

Popped in here for a Sunday Roast and the food was tasty and fresh. Service was quick and polite. We will be coming back

Wow, was not expecting such quality food for breakfast! Sausages delicious and didn’t have to wait long. Bar staff and chef very friendly and pleasant! Would definitely recommended a visit! Will be back soon

We went on Saturday afternoon for a quick drink. We were drawn to the pub by the lovely exterior and once in we were impressed by the interior too.A friendly member of staff enticed us into having a cocktail as it was Happy Hour and he said his specialty was Sex on the Beach, so we opted for that.We both really enjoyed the cocktail and also the atmosphere of the pub. A really enjoyable visit.

Myself and my husband had a excellent evening meal here prepared by Willem it was the best meal we had during our visit to Banbury. We had fish and chips, the fish was fresh and the batter was lovely and light as it should be. The staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. Would we eat there again Definitely YES if ever in the area again.

Went travelling around South Asia for three months and came back to find my favourite pub has changed drastically. Half the clientele have been barred. There’s some foreign woman running things. Obviously doesn’t get English pubs in the slightest. We spent 15 minutes waiting to be served on a quiet Monday afternoon. Staff are more interested in smoking and chatting. This place has gone downhill. Courtyard was full of spongers asking for money.Thought we would give it a second go and had the same experience a week ago. Rude staff.Think I will stay in Brackley instead of coming to Banbury as the town now has little to offer. I had noticed that now people who used to frequent JTs now go to the Wild Lime ... though it’s just not the same and has its own problems too.

Wanting some lunch, I entered into the J.T Davis pub. The staff were outstanding, quick service and really helpful. I Ordered some food ( the JT platter), the food was excellent, service was very fast and the food was superb. Had a couple of pints and again the service was quick and helpful. Conclusion - Outstanding time and great food, well worth a visit, I’ll see you all soon, well done

The wife and I went for a meal.one of the best stakes I have ever eaten.the wife had lamb kebab.william the chef came out to see if every thing was ok.the pub was clean to a high standard.the staff were polite and efficient Chris and his lovely wife have done wonders with the pub making it ideal for family's

28th July.Excellent Sunday Roast. Both of us had the Beef but you can have Pork if you like. Good selection of vegetables, parsnips, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, carrots......... topped off with a choice of desserts, sticky toffee pudding, chocolate brownies, banoffi........Lovely clean dining area.Service very good with very friendly and attentive staff. Recommended.

Wandering around Banbury on a Sunday morning visit to the area and we were looking for a traditional English breakfast! Took a chance and stopped here and were not disappointed. Competitive pricing , delicious coffee and a five star breakfast! Friendly service and a chef who took the trouble to come out the kitchen to ask if everything was ok. Sat in the outside area and enjoyed the great weather while devouring a perfect cooked breakfast . A great start to the day and definitely worthy of five stars!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was alone in Banbury and felt like a Sunday roast lunch. The first pub I came to after parking was the above. I was a bit apprehensive, as there was sport on the television on the wall and the seating looked pretty ordinary. I ordered roast beef, wondering whether it would be a frozen bought-in meal and was very pleasantly surprised to receive a large plate of roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and four superb roast potatoes, a largish bowl of (1) beautifully cooked cauliflower cheese (2) ditto carrots, peas and broccoli and (3) a separate jug of rich, hot gravy. I ate every mouthful and really enjoyed it. Would highly recommend and on a warm day it would be great to eat outside in the courtyard.

Best breakfast in Banbury!!! Delicious and check out those portion sizes Been a few times over the past month with Mrs and mates and not been disappointed. Friendly team, nice new decor and best sun trap beer garden in the town. Prices really reasonable. Check it out!

Hi" there I went to banbury town centre to have a look around " found a lovely pub" called JT.Davis . It was Sunday they were doing roast dinner " and on the bar was lovely roast potatoes for all the customers " for when your waiting for your pint" "" wow what a vibrant pub full of life and great atmosphere " bar staff was so helpful and friendly " really nice place to sit outside the pub sort of beer garden with terrace area " so quaint " specially on a hot sunny afternoon . Really think you should give JT.Davis pub a try " think you would really enjoy your time there food and beer are great quality and affordable " thanks to all the bar staff and landlord for there warm welcome and friendly service. I came in with my son, who is not a vegetarian, in fact, he’s very anti vegetarian. There was a bit of a mix-up and he ended up with my burger. He took one bite and was like ‘this is the best burger i’ve ever tasted’ only to be told a second later that it was a veggie burger. Lol... it made my day. But seriously the food and staff are amazing and they gave us a generous discount and free chips because of the mix up. If you’re in Banbury give them a try. The food is fresh and tasty.

Really good Pub Food (decent pizza), ample outside seating. Good value decent service and open late, just what a pub near Banbuty town centre should be.

What a great breakfast we had this morning. Well cooked, well presented and well priced. The best we've had in Banbury for a very long time. Very pleased to highly recommend ... and we'll definitely be back.

Came here a couple of weekends ago with partner and family. The menu was very cheaply priced, however my partners large breakfast came out not as stated on the menu, missing items such as the extra sausages and toast which had been paid for and substituted with potatoes which weren’t meant to be on there. Apart from this the food was ok.

I find JT Davies a very family friendly pub - having a 5 week old baby girl there is easy access to get in and around the pub with our buggy which is great! They are amazing with heating her bottle when needed each time we go in there.

Went into this pub today with family, friends and my dog for lunch. The service was great fast and friendly, we was greeted by the manager James who was very helpful and professional. The roast dinner was amazing and nothing was to much trouble. We will most definitely be returning again.

Come to it’s with my family for lunch as we heard there was a new manager and the old one made us feel uncomfortable, the new manager is nice the food good service was five star clean plates all round a must for food and service in Banbury

Amazing food, drink and excellent customer service. Fully recommend to all. MANAGER is very helpful and helps with any enquiries. Very friendly and approachable.

Some of my family and I came here on Sunday. Just for drinks and to play pool. While here my daughter was hungry so i ordered her some food, after disappearing for a few minutes, the bar man returned to say what my daughter wanted was unavailable... so we settled for something else. The place didn't look like it was regularly cleaned. Everything was sticky and dirty, there was a horrible smell.... the toilets just topped it off though... There was broken glass on the floor in the female toilets, one cubicle was to dirty to even think about using. Had to settle for the least dirty toilet. There wasn't any toilet roll in sight, luckily I had tissues in my bag. The soap was empty and the bottle had been thrown in the sink. I haven't seen toilets this bad for a long time. When we asked for toilet roll they didn't have any... we complained about the states of the toilets but all the bar man did was pick up the glass from the floor. Everything else was left... on the toilet check chart... apparently the last toilet check was 11pm Friday night! I heard the men's toilets was no better... While here we heard the bar man chatting with another gent about the state of the dishwasher. Apparently it smelt awful and shouldn't be used. But it was and makes you not want to drink out of them. I won't be returning

First visit to Banbury, on recent holiday. This place looked lovely from outside, however we were very disappointed. Most of the real ales were "off" the place looks a bit run down on the inside, but worst of all was the smell from the bins next to the outside seating area. Glad we weren't eating. Please move the bins out of the way!

Get the impression that this pub isn't used to people ordering food. 6 people ordered food. 2 orders came out after 15 mins. Then 2 more after a further 10 minutes. 1 more 20 mins later. Mine still hadn't turned up after 55 mins even though I'd ordered first so went on to cancel and the management need to think about their customer service skills. Never ever eat in this pub ever again. Shocking in every way. The pub wasn't busy and I was 1st to order. No excuse at all. Literally no excuse!!!!!

6 if went to lunch all paid separately so wasn’t expecting to food to come out together but ...2 came out after 15 mins , another 1 after 20 and then at this point they said there was no couscous Togo with the halloumi skewers as no one ever ordered is it ( 2 of us did today and why have it in your menu then ???) We opted for the chicken skewers, the chicken has been cooked in a pan and then threaded on to the skewers with raw peppers and onions . We asked at this point if the last dish would be long to get abruptly told “I’ve only got 2 pairs of hands “ . The other dish came out after another 15 minutes at which point we needed to go. The guy behind the bar was quite friendly and did at least apologise after one of the late dishes . The bar woman needs to work on her customer service skills as there isn’t any ! Dreadful

Worst meal ever. My daughter ordered waffles but chef came out and said he checked in the freezer and couldn’t find any waffles. Frozen waffles? Wife ordered eggs Benedict and chef told us they had no muffins so agreed to have it with toast instead. I took a photo of it because it looked unbelievable. Non-toasted bread and we weren’t sure if we could identify any actual egg products. Neither my wife or daughter could eat what was served. I had the big breakfast. The bacon was tough and too salty the eggs looked pre-cooked and microwaved before being served. Can’t comment on the rest of the breakfast because I didn’t try it. On top of that, we had to wait 45 minutes from the time we ordered until the “food” was served. Had to go to Burger King for something better!! Will never return.

visited on a Sunday and plumped for sunday roast, No Lamb so opted for the beef Sunday Roast and my friend ordered a vegetarian Risotto. having waited over half an hour and other people getting meals who ordered well after us , we were told the wait was due to having to re cook the risotto. when we finally did get our meal nearly an hour after ordering , my beef dinner was not that good to say the least , I think the beef had been on the plate for and hour and was dry, also the broccoli was overcooked and a very light green instead of a nice dark green colour , and my gravy did not arrive until I was half way through my meal . My friend having had to wait for his Risotto being re done found it to be extremely salty and only ate 50% of his meal, the only saving grace to this visit was that the real ale I had with my lunch was good , we will certainly NOT be visiting this venue again

Went there this afternoon for a roast lunch well o m g I had a lime and soda and roast lunch 1095 were do I start came out no Yorkshire puds 2 slices beef few burnt roast pots few tops brocoli and few carrots. And min gravy def not worth money I would recommend it to anyone and the outside looked like a bomb had hit it tables unclean piled up of crap glasses etc

Ordered one round of Ham, and one of Beef which supposedly came with Horse Radish Sauce and Rocket dressing. The H R Sauce was tasteless Beef dry and also tasteless. Not even the four corners of the sandwich had beef on. £6-95 for one slice of beef in between two slices of bread, plus a small bowl of chips was scandalous. The Rocket must have weighed more than the beef. Also finger & palm prints over the Sandwich,es.

Everything you would expect from a town centre pub, with the addition of a spacious outdoor eating area. Would recommend and would visit again.

Had a lovely family meal in there today, celebrating dads birthday… there was a case with the seasoning on my steak, but once they where made aware the problem was sorted and it did spoilt the meal.

Been here a couple of times now and can't fault the staff or the food. New favorite place to eat with a real pub atmosphere, good range of beers and enough choice for everyone. Highly recommended.

Thought start day off with a hearty breakfast . Was there early had full English was cooked lovely . Wife had eggs benaddict lovely to great start to the day be back here again spot on

Mother and I found this pub/restaurant by chance. Staff were very helpful and welcoming when I trundled Mother and her wheelchair in. We had an excellent lunch, Mother (not easy to please) said her lambs liver was as good as she would make at home, I had the Moules Frites which was delicious. Service was relaxed and attentive without being intrusive. This may well become a regular lunch venue in future.

Found this on foot in Banbury, about 5 minutes from the canal in the town centre. Obviously a popular local, but with a good varied menu at reasonable prices, very well presented and cooked. Had a Halloween theme throughout, very imaginative.

Me and my wife came here for Sunday lunch 2 weeks ago. Very impressed with the food and the Customer service. We would definitely return 👌

On a day trip to Banbury we ventured into this pub, the welcome was very friendly. I would like to thank the team and especially the chef who very kindly prepared our food taking into account my food intolerance, your care was very much appreciated. We both had Sausages with mashed potatoes, peas and gravy, washed down with a glass of Merlot and a pint of Brakspears, very nice.

Whilst visiting Banbury my wife and I were looking for somewhere for Brunch, whilst looking around the Market square, not really hidden away but only ten yards from the mkt we came across the public house JT Davies, we were welcomed by a ☺ friendly young lady who showed us to our seats in the dining area.

We happened in to this restaurant wondering what actually was in this beautiful building tucked back from the square. We were warmly greeted and shown a menu. The decor was such that we wanted to bring our husbands and the menu looked just fine. And so we went for lunch. The meal was excellent and so was the service. We returned for dinner that night and were once again pleased.

Well I've got to admit the new management seems to have taken a positive strike to this place.
