The best restaurants in Aughton and Downholland West Lancashire North West

Excellent breakfast cooked by the very friendly Nicola. The food is all cooked fresh. Lunch is also served each day. It’s great also in the summer as you can sit outside the back that backs onto the canal.

Coming from Grange-over-Sands on a Sunday to this place was quite the struggle, but it was certainly worth it - but this is not a review for the English public transport schedule but for Moor Hall. I went for the big menu, which started with lots of lovely snacks in the beautiful lounge. For the actual menu, one is lead, after a short kitchen tour and presentation of todays produce, to the main dining room. Food was overall lovely - insane level of quality on the ingredients: my favourite were the prawns with raspberry, the aged beef and the guinea hen (with out-of-this-world asparagus!). Service was stellar, with them also accomodating my requests to charge my phone and getting a half-pour of sweet wine. Due to the lack of public transport, I had to stay for a while longer, but I could enjoy a nice cigar out in the heated smoker's lounge. My only ‚criticism‘ of the entire experience: while I did like the theatrics that obviously come with such a dinner (especially the little kitchen tour, the changing from bar to main dining hall, the presentation of the produce and main course), I feel like they were sometimes a little overboard (dry ice, and some sharp, crystallized sugar leaves). This is just a small personal preference of mine though. Let some sugar leaves not deter you from visiting this gem of a restaurant. ;) Big recommendation!

Incredibly excellent. Went for dinner here in March 2025. I’m local to the area and went for a run at 7am-ish. The head chef was in the window, grafting. Had the meal at 7:30pm, head chef is there, grafting. I don’t eat veg normally but the food was just incredible- somehow even made the veg taste lovely :). The service was brilliant as well. My wife asked a question about what a “forced rhubarb” was and the head chef answered it for us- can tell they are so passionate about their craft. The place is spot on but relaxed and not stuffy eg can order a pint. Proud to be a local and see that other diners were eg French and had travelled to the area to experience it. The location of the restaurant very nice with a lake as you pull into the area. The service was fantastic from the first minute. There was never a moment where we felt like we had been forgotten about. Water was constantly filled up and kept on eye on for running out. The menu was fish and meat based. I had the quail with mushroom for starter, and a roasted monkfish dish as my main. Both were very well put together and very tasty. There were some snack dishes also (The focaccia and butter was very nice). We finished with some desserts which wasn't overly sweet and delicious. All in all, the food amount was just about right. It was about £100 per person for the 3 courses and a couple of the cocktails. You could spend less if you skip the drinks and desserts at about £70 per person. But might as well get the full experience while you are there. Toilets 10/10 - Immaculate and nice smelling soap

Staff in here are the most welcoming , kind and courteous I've came across yet . Food is beautiful sharing platter is a must try 😋

Quite often visit for lunch with friends but we would have liked hot drinks after our meal sadly, we left without a hot drink as they don’t offer decaffeinated tea which one of our friends can only drink. But they offer decaffeinated coffee.

Sunday menu was really tasty, great value. Staff were very friendly. And the food came out quickly despite the restaurant being fully booked (which is a promising sign)! Lovely to sit outside, and eat and drink in the sun. Would recommend, it was ace!

Excellent meal at Solo Restauant, Ormskirk. Loved the informal atmosphere and very attentive service. Tasting menu and wine flight for me and the pescatarian tasting menu for family. Loved every bite and the magic that the sommelier(sorry, didn’t get his name) performs with the wines. Tim Allen has created a little gem in the Lancashire countryside. Drinks choice was excellent, with a great selection of non alcoholic beverages, if that’s your thing. Nothing pretentious here, dress up, dress down, whatever makes you comfortable, no one is judging. If you are looking for somewhere special, definitely have a look here.

My Uncle John's favorite place. Home away from home. Many thanks to all his amazing friends. He loved coming to the Kings for a pint. Don't be surprised if you see him in the shadows, just raise you glass and give him a cheers!

The lovely staff deserve 10/10 best service I've had for a long time. Food was delicious and reasonably priced

Used to be amazing and we regularly got food feom here. Shish kebab was £9 and had 5 pieces of meat. Well and truly a rip off. Wouldn't bother again
