Solo in West Lancashire

First visit - loved it. Sunday lunch beautifully presented and delicious. Great atmosphere - although the music was a bit intrusive .A family with wailing child arrived about three quarters of the way though our meal -thankfully seated at the other end of the restaurant. While it didn't spoil our experience - a gentle observation: If one is spending Michelin star prices one does not want badly behaved children to spoil the experience.

Came to celebrate our wedding anniversary with friends and was greeted warmly by Conor and Mags who had also put a congrats card on the table, signed by all the staff, which was a nice touch. Had the tasting menu, which was both innovative and delicious, and had a table visit from Chef Tim Allen, who made time for a chat. Food and service were comparable to Moor Hall & L'enclume, so I'm not surprised that they got their star. Highly recommended.

Cannot fault my experience. Greeted warmly and liked the atmosphere and decor. The bread was so good, a sticky seeded top and served warm with a good salted butter. Food interesting and absolutely delicious. The cheese trolley had a good selection and the honey, quince and fruit bread etc were a perfect addition. Chicken cooked to perfection and amazing flavour. Staff were attentive and made us feel welcome and valued. We are so lucky to have such wonderful restaurants on our doorstep and can't wait to return.

Relaxed atmosphere for a wonderful inventive menu. Great service and the tasting menu was excellent particularly loved the cod and the celeriac that I had never enjoyed before.

We crossed the Pennines yesterday to visit the gorgeous Michelin restaurant, Sō-lō. Situated in the village of Aughton, Ormskirk— within easy reach of Manchester and Liverpool. An amazing tasting menu experience with some fantastic ingredients. The menu we enjoyed from chef Tim Allen showcased some fantastic dishes, all enjoyed in a modern, relaxed, and informal setting with excellent service. The open kitchen is a real treat too. There were some truly amazing dishes today, but the Herdwick Hogget was exceptional. As well as the tasting menu, they also offered a 3-course lunch menu, which we can’t wait to try next time.

A gem of a place with wonderful friendly staff and amazing food ! Myself and a friend dined here as a birthday treat and it exceeded our expectations. We chose from the lunch menu and all four courses(we had the cheese course as well - can’t be missed) were amazing . I would highly and hope to return very soon.

Incredibly excellent. Went for dinner here in March 2025. I’m local to the area and went for a run at 7am-ish. The head chef was in the window, grafting. Had the meal at 7:30pm, head chef is there, grafting. I don’t eat veg normally but the food was just incredible- somehow even made the veg taste lovely :). The service was brilliant as well. My wife asked a question about what a “forced rhubarb” was and the head chef answered it for us- can tell they are so passionate about their craft. The place is spot on but relaxed and not stuffy eg can order a pint. Proud to be a local and see that other diners were eg French and had travelled to the area to experience it. Thanks for an amazing evening guys.

Wonderful food, absolutely excellent matching wines delivered by extremely engaging and knowledgeable sommelier. Thoroughly deserves the Michelin star. My only reservation is the lighting - there’s too much of it! I love an intimate atmosphere where there’s a bit of coziness with the lighting when it’s an evening meal, but it was way too bright and stark. Personal opinion that’s all, but I always think that clever low lighting and use of candles really helps to focus the taste buds, create an intimate atmosphere and complement the beautifully presented dishes. Apart from that, couldn’t fault the amazing food, wine and service throughout.

Often find that Sunday roasts are a huge let down … but not at Solo. Highly recommend. On every level it was perfect. Well done team Solo… excellent service and food 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Excellent meal at Solo Restauant, Ormskirk. Loved the informal atmosphere and very attentive service. Tasting menu and wine flight for me and the pescatarian tasting menu for family. Loved every bite and the magic that the sommelier(sorry, didn’t get his name) performs with the wines. Tim Allen has created a little gem in the Lancashire countryside. Drinks choice was excellent, with a great selection of non alcoholic beverages, if that’s your thing. Nothing pretentious here, dress up, dress down, whatever makes you comfortable, no one is judging. If you are looking for somewhere special, definitely have a look here.

This place has everything I want in a restaurant and nothing I don't. - sound, natural seeming staff that are friendly but professional and not in your face - lovely environment, decor, comfortable seating - Food consistently excellent and although special in terms of tastes and textures, it's not OTT fussy - drinks menu for a non-drinker is better than I've seen anywhere. Really thoughtful stuff and made the meal for me. - nicest bread I've had at a restaurant and that's a high bar - all the little touches on the money - it's not a gouge and drinks especially seemed really fairly priced. I've only been twice now, but I can't think of another place anywhere that ticks this many boxes. Obviously there are special places like l'enclume and the fat duck etc but I usually don't want to spend that much time or money at a restaurant - happy to do so once in a blue moon as an experience but Solo is a place I'd probably end up going to once a month if I lived within an hour of it. Sadly I don't but as a Man United fan, I can see myself combining it with the footie 3 or 4 times a year.

Fabulous staff, attentive and knowledgeable. Food was delicious, beautifully presented and beyond expectations. We’ll be back.

Absolutely wonderful evening at Solo, the welcome on arrival was friendly. We were shown to a lovely table, the ambience was perfect, supported by stunning food and exceptional service. Our second visit and we will be returning again soon.

What an interesting conundrum, is this a 5 or a 4, I am going for a 4, and for the next few lines going to explain why. We were met, greeted and sat down, our pre meal drinks order taken effortlessly whilst we sat until our table was made ready; whilst waiting for our table, the staff kept our glasses topped up, in a nice provision of service. We enjoyed each course and from a technical prospective the food was masterly cooked and enjoyable, but that was it - enjoyable, there was no real dish that stretched or surprised the palate, which in my view is the sign of an aspirational restaurant not pushing its self. The level of service through the meal was excellent. Highlights of the meal - the cauliflower course and Hoggart slice / jus. Would I go back - certainly and will do so and the next menu change is made.

We visited on the special Lobster evening. The special night was very popular and totally packed. We were seated shortly after arriving and the pace of the food delivery was very good. Every course was delicious and beautifully prepared and presented. We really enjoyed our evening and would recommend SoLo to anyone wanting a great evening of delicious food,

Had an enjoyable dinner here, the cooking was the star of the show and was of a high standard overall. The venue and rest of the experience were OK also, it was a bit quieter than I was expecting (only 4 tables in on a Friday night), but we had a nice evening.

This was our first visit and already it’s our new favourite it’s worth the two and a half hour round trip. We are planning our next visit as we speak. From the friendly welcome on arrival , the lovely decor and ambiance together with excellent service led by magali . The food is delicious with great attention to detail well presented together with a sensible wine pairing a great meal, can’t wait to return.

EXCELLENT, couldn’t be better. We visited probably for the 5th time. On Thursday 25th July 24. We had lobster 🦞 it was delicious. Belly pork to start, melted in your mouth. And the dessert 🍮 mmm. We had the wine pairing too.
