I was served by Judith she was so pleasant we could of chatted to her for hours what a lovely lady an asset to the business it made our lunch extra special thank you so much

We stayed 2 nights and ate in the restaurant on the Fri evening. The hotel room was spacious but needed a better dusting. The bed and pillows were comfy. Bathroom smaller but had everything we needed. Handy location and big free car park. Lovely freshly cooked breakfast with good options, however no continental as such. We will stay again when visiting our daughter nearby. The restaurant was busy so book in advance. The waiter showed us to our table but it took him 15 minutes to bring the bottle of wine. We also had to ask to order. The waitresses were however friendly and efficient. The fillet steaks were wonderfully cooked, the accompanying sauce could have been hotter though. The poached pear was lovely and well presented. The only downside was the prawn cocktail starter which was very plain and bland, just lettuce and prawns. Needed more sauce and a roll. and butter to accompany it.

Other than our waitress the staff were unfriendly and Disinterested. We were stuck on a table in a corner despite there being plenty of empty tables. The food was average at best and certainly didn't warrant the price. The bedroom was large but had nowhere to sit. Toiletries were very limited. Windows were broken and curtain was hanging off. Walls very thin -no soundproofing so could here the person next to us using the toilet!

Fab food. Really good shower. Very comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Food was lovely and the steak was perfect. I had the rib eye, my wife the Sirloin. Both cooked to our preference and were very tasty. Staff were lovely and the bottle of red perfectly partnered the food. All in all two steals 3 sides and a bottle of wine for £95.

We attended Miller and Carter to celebrate my husbands birthday. Anna was our waitress and she was brilliant, lovely manner and really attentive to our party. My mum also thought she looks like Celine Dion.

The best place for food and relaxing, excellent service, perfect atmosphere for family or just for two. I will definitely be back.

Booked an overnight stay as we were taking our daughter back to university. Room was lovely and spacious. Very clean. Breakfast was amazing. All cooked fresh. Louisa looked after us really well at breakfast. Would definitely recommend.

Thoroughly enjoy my afternoon lunches. Large car park. Staff very polite and helpful. I love afternoons here as you are not rushed, staff allow you to eat at your own pace. Beautifully decorated, very clean glasses and cutlery and linen napkins. Have wonderful lunch deals. Well worth a visit.

Original review from 2 years ago was 5 stars. Unfortunately the last 2 times we have been the food has gone downhill. 2 weeks ago me and Mrs went to aughton steaks were meant to be medium/well both had blood on the plates and red right through. Last night we told the server about last time so could you please make sure the steaks are at least medium. Again the Mrs had blood on her plate and her steak was red right through. My steak was probably the worst steak I've ever had a third of the steak was gristle that the steak knife couldn't cut through and the steak was red/purple. Paying over a hundred pounds for a meal for two would expect better. This used to be our go to place but will not be coming back anytime soon. So a monthly meal out will have to be elsewhere.

Food was very good. Service was very good. Setting was very good. We had the Sunday menu which was 3 course or 2 course and opt for a cocktail (limited choice but very nice) for a £2 supplement Rib eye steak for me, Fillet for the Mrs (£8 supplement) both were cooked really well and tasted great Why then is it not 5 star excellent? Because we had a bottle of wine which was nice in itself, £28.95 Errazuriz Merlot, checking on Google, Tesco sell these for £7!!!!!!! Given Tesco make on £7, over 400% mark up at the restaurant? Come on M&C!

Traveling for work and stayed two weeks. Wonderful friendly staff that made me feel like family; as was missing my four dogs very much. Oh, and my wife too. Amazing steak and great atmosphere The walk into the village was like a friggin’ fairy tales. Nicky and Steph in housekeeper were two great scousers! Will definitely be bringing my wife back for a vacation!

Very comfortable stay here for two nights bed and breakfast with a dinner too. The room was large, very sleek, well-equipped, quiet with a very good en-suite. The whole place was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was really good. Excellent choice and generous portions. Staff, too, were really friendly, efficient and well-informed.

We visited the Miller and Carter restaurant in Swan Lane Aughton for lunch on Thursday last week. It offers a Fixed-Price Lunch Menu, Monday to Friday 12pm - 5pm and Saturdays 12pm - 3pm, 2 courses from £16.95 or 3 courses from £19.95. There are a good selection of options on the fixed price menu to choose from. To drink we chose a glass of the draft lager and a glass of Pinot Grigio wine. To eat we chose a crispy golden battered haddock with thick cut chunky chips, pea purée and fresh tartare sauce and a chargrilled chicken breast with crushed baby potatoes, Tenderstem broccoli, mushroom, white wine & crème fraîche sauce. For desert we both had the salted caramel profiteroles served with delicious chocolate sauce. The service was efficient and all the food and drink were very good. The only negative was the extremely loud level of the background music which made conversation and hearing difficult in the restaurant. We would recommend.

Amazing severice staff were very attentive and always asking could they get us anything. The food was gorgeous and my mother was particularly pleased as she has cealiac and needs gluten free. There was much more choice for her than normally available in places, she really enjoyed the food and didnt feel left out on what she could eat. We were a family of 15 celebrating a 50th birthday and it was made special due to the service and food. Can not fault them on anything. They also set the balloons and banners up in the private dinning area the night before for us. Can't thank them enough for an amazing afternoon.

Managed to get a last minute reservation on a Friday which was an unexpected surprise. Anna served us and was fab with our service and was great with our 2 year old. Always an enjoyable experience at this restaurant.

Steak was tender and cooked correctly but asking big bucks for what it was though. Starters were good but not as hot as would have liked. Priced as a more occasional meal but serving what you would expect from a regular place. Service was ok, friendly but after drinks, forgot to come back and take our order.

Very busy for early Friday evening so service was as expected. However Judith was amazing despite being rushed off her feet. The food was excellent and she made our 55th wedding anniversary dinner special. Thank you Judith

Both our 50 aged sirloin (cooked medium rare) was chewy & tough. Very disappointed as steaks are what they are supposed to specialise in. Also, we were disappointed at the service of wine, the waitress just put the bottle on our table & walked away. Every single restaurant that we have been to the waiter/waitress pours the wine into the glass or asks you to taste it.

The service we received tonight from our server Lucy was outstanding, she couldn't have done enough for us! She was so down to earth but yet extremely professional. The food was amazing we got on the bone sirloin (medium rare) cooked to perfection and the dessert was out of this world, our whole Miller & Carter experience though was made purely by our server Lucy! We visited Miller & Carter Aughton.

Stayed in September for 2 nights. Lovely hotel with great bar and restaurant. Breakfast was brilliant served by Louisa who looked after us really eell. Rooms clean and very comfortable.

Atmosphere great and excellent staff

Went on Friday afternoon,my wife and I had 2 course menu. Lovely tender rump steak and excellent service from the staff especially Judith.

It was our 24th wedding anniversary so we were looking forward to an enjoyable stay but the evening meal just spoilt the whole trip. Despite booking our table in advance we were kept standing at reception a long time while a backlog of guests was cleared. It's insanity (and sheer greed) to try to run a restaurant at maximum capacity for hours on end. The staff were overstretched so the delays in service were very long - which resulted in our food being barely warm when it eventually arrived. If it had been a really quiet night maybe our experience would have been different, but we can only comment on what happened to us that night.

Person on front desk lacked customer skills ….we were virtually ignored for five minutes ….tables waiters whilst being super friendly suffered by extreme pressure in busy noisy place …food was adequate …prawns dry and overcooked …tasteless lamb …requested mint sauce …” we don’t have it “ was the curt reply …waited after reminding about our drinks order …….opened and poured the bottle myself ….bill came to £190 for a noisy tasteless experience with children screaming ….one child on next table threw a glass table lamp onto the floor smashing it … Overall a poor dining experience at extortionate cost…. We will never return . Despite all this i tipped our waitress personally as she had worked so hard to look after us in chaotic circumstances.

We had not been for some time even though we live locally. The service was fine, other than having to wait five minutes for a pre-booked table, the ordering process was a bit daft, so many combinations of steaks, sauces, lettuce "wedges" and side orders, but they have to cater for all tastes. We both ordered medium steaks, my fillet was too pink for me but tasty, my wife's sirloin was tough but neither special enough to justify the "Masters of Steak" hype. With a couple of glasses of wine and garlic bread starter, the bill was just under £100, which we did not think was particularly good value.

Brilliant experience from the second we walked through the door as always. We visited for my mum’s birthday which was made very special by all servers, specifically Sam who went above and beyond to ensure we had the best evening possible. The food, as always, was amazing. Thank you!

Just been to m/c Aughton. I spoke to jacquie the manager about our two elderly friends 66th wedding anniversary and she and the staff namely Lucy and caitlen who were fantastic patient and polite. Both John and dot had a wonderful day the food was excellent but for me and my wife to see two elderly people happy was great. What I say now will be transferred to America where there son and family live but couldn't get across due to work commitments. This experience has left us with a warm heart and cannot thank the people mentioned enough. Once again thank m/c staff.

The chef didn't cook the meat right, we sent it back it came out the second time still undercooked so it sort of ruined the meal, everything else was great.

Went last Sunday with family met at check in point and seated by Jacquie very polite and friendly when seating and taking drinks order. All food orders taken by Lucy who was lovely from the minute she came over to us until we left. Five of us all had different meals from vegetarian, burger, lamb and steak all the food was piping hot and delicious. If you want steak don’t go anywhere else but as stated all the food was fantastic. Would like to thank Lucy for being brilliant.

Excellent meal and first class service

We visited today for my husband’s birthday. Our Server was Lucy Mol, she was very friendly and very helpful. Our steaks arrived and they weren’t as requested. My husband asked for medium rare and mine medium, both were overdone not so much that they needed to be returned. We informed Lucy and she was very apologetic, she did ask if we wanted to return them, we were very polite and assured her she didn’t need to apologise as she isn’t the chef, there’s nothing to be gained by getting angry especially at her. It was very busy but I’d still expect the steaks to be cooked correctly. Lucy’s service was perfect we couldn’t fault her. I looked forward to visiting again and hopefully we get Lucy Mol as our server.

Absolutely amazing night. Staff so warm and friendly. Food to die for especially the dirty burger and ultimate ribs. Staff are so well organised the whole night was flawless. Thankyou

Very disappointing lunch at Miller and Carter . We usually go to the Stanley but it is closed at the moment for refurbishment. We were shown to our table by a very unfriendly girl who took our drinks order . My friends gin came with all the tonic poured in . The waitress who came to take our food order apologised and brought my friend a fresh drink. A lot of the food ordered was unavailable. They said there was no fillet steak for the fillet steak sandwiches. Also no butternut squash for the salad . The food when it came was very unexciting. I had a chicken sandwich and fries . It came with very little salad and a small piece of onion loaf . My friend had a piece of very overcooked haddock . Our desserts were fine . Our waitress was friendly and obliging but I feel the standard of Miller and Carter has very much slipped recently. We won’t be returning any time soon sadly .

Food was disappointing. Expensive for what it was, and definitely not worth the money. Expected better given miller's reputation generally.

Once again a fabulous meal at M&C we chose off the Sunday special menu £32.50 for 3 courses lots of choice and the food was delicious. We were looked after by Judith who was so attentive and helpful she really does look after her guests and is definitely an asset to the restaurant. We were all too full for dessert and she arranged for them to be put in boxes that we could take home how amazing is that. Thanks Judith we will be back soon Lynn & Lee Quai xxx

We’ve been coming here for many years as we live close by. We’ve had mixed experiences but sadly the overall standard has generally slipped over that time. Unfortunately I think M&C has lost its place in the market as it doesn’t quite know what it is. It isn’t a fine dining steakhouse however also isn’t exactly a pub. On this occasion although it was supposed to be steaks and dates night (!) we had to ask for that particular menu. The lady who showed us to our table also wasn’t particularly friendly. However our subsequent waitresses were very good. We were then informed that there was no chateaubriand available (on steak date night!) although subsequently told there was one left. The starters were excellent. The wine and cocktails also excellent. Dessert was good. The steak was cooked correctly as ordered (medium rare) and the meat pretty good but lacked the charred flavour you would hope for. The onion loaf was as usual rather cool and unappetising. Sides were good. I might have considered giving 4 stars (in view of the discount in the Thursday menu) however we had an irritating experience of a girl coming and standing for 15-20 mins at the side of us talking loudly and intrusively to the table of older women next to us. We assumed she was a member of the public who had come in to talk to them and eventually I had to ask our waitress to ask her to either sit down with that party or leave. Our waitress said something about her being family which confused me slightly until I then realised the girl worked in M&C! This made it even worse as she should have known better than to behave in that way and spoil the ambience for couples trying to have a quiet meal (I could also see an older couple looking a little irritated). To be fair she did then leave the table and our waitress remained pleasant with us so it wasn’t too awkward but it shouldn’t have happened. It’s not the first time we’ve witnessed unprofessional behaviour by staff here, we’ve previously seen groups hanging around the bar talking etc instead of checking on customers. So perhaps some additional training is required. Also, our bill was initially incorrect and hadn’t accounted for the Thursday menu prices so we had to point this out as well 🙄

Myself and my partner went to miller and Carter Aughton today to celebrate my 27th birthday together. The meal and food it’s self was amazing 10/10, however the thing that stood out for us personally was the lovely women who served us throughout the evening. (I believe her name was Lucy) for a Tuesday night the place seemed a bit busy than usual so almost every table full. An elderly couple who sat next to us for the evening when leaving the gent paid and approached Lucy to register his dissatisfaction that when he was served a glass of wine a bit of red wine was on the bottom of the wine glass had dripped onto his shirt. Lucy apologises, takes ownership (even when knowing if it was even her who made the accidental mistake or another colleague) and holds herself so well. And continues to give what I would say is the best customer service experience I have ever seen. I work in customer service myself full time and just want to say how amazing she is and how perfectly she handled that customer. Even more so how perfectly she took care of us all night and everyone else I saw her also take care of. She really is a credit to your team and the Miller and Carter company. YOU GO LUCY, KEEP SMASHING IT !!!

Went to Miller and Carter in Aughton this evening for my sons birthday. The staff are great and a lady called Judith was serving us, she was lovely and made us feel very welcome. They even put a happy birthday message on the table, my son was made up. We had the grilled salmon, it was amazing.

Two of our party were running a little late and the blonde waitress bullied us into ordering our meal before they came down from their room (7 of our party were residents), even though the restaurant was practically empty all night. After that we received zero service from her and repeatedly had to go to the bar staff to ask for assistance. Most peoples' food was at best disappointing, mine (vegan option) was inedible (not cooked). The bill was £464.31 which was paid in full was outrageous and we should have deducted the £42.21service charge.

Had a lovely meal here. Will definitely be back!

Gorgeous meal Great service Amazing food

Michelle was excellent and very attentive. Food was spectacular. We had the Buthers block and weren't disappointed. The steaks came cooked exactly as requested (rare) and the bone marrow was outstanding. Would highly recommend.

We stayed for one night to attend a wedding close by. As this was earlier than check in the lovely manager took our things and said she would put them in our room for us and checked us in then kindly offered us a lift to the wedding which we were so grateful for. The rooms were spotless and spacious but this what made this hotel was the staff. Every one of them went above and beyond. Breakfast was lovely and again service was brilliant. When we were leaving the girls were making a room special for a couple on their wedding day which was so sweet.

Judith looked after us as a table of 6 on the day of my partner's graduation. Brilliant service (actually helpful with advice as well rather than just surface level) and even offering glasses to my partner's mother! Food was great, my first time at a miller and carter and it didn't disappoint.

Everything was great from service to food and will go back

A table had been booked for 1:30 pm and it was fairly busy. Drinks order was taken promptly but quite a wait for their arrival. Three out of the party of four wanted the chicken but were told that they had run out due to 2x parties of 10 earlier on! Food chosen from the set lunch menu... Fishcakes; Fish & Chips and Steak. Nice thing is that you can have a mini dessert with coffee..... such a great idea. Miller & Carter is always a great place to go.

We had a lovely meal with excellent service from Lucy! She was so lovely and engaging, constantly keeping the table laughing and making sure everything was perfect and we were happy with our food! 5 star rating, next time we come back we shall ask specifically for Lucy! :)
