With no water in our village due to an accident and damaged pipeline, cooking at home wasn't so appealing so we headed off to our favourite bar and restaurant, the Corner House. The place was busy and technically full as many people had the same idea, but the staff rallied round to make room for us and despite them being run off their feet, the food and service was still absolutely fantastic. Congratulations to Luke and the rest of the staff, you really pulled it out of the bag... and this is exactly why we go back there time and time again. We couldn't recommend it more, 5 stars every time.

Not eaten here for over two years due to Covid19. We met for our first ever dinner date in 2007, when it was Mulberry Tree, and came back frequently during next 13 years. Today, our two course a-la-carte lunches were very tasty and excellent value with generous portion sizes, (perhaps a little too much sauce), served by pleasant waiting staff and not too noisy despite at least 10 tables at 1pm. We'll be back!

4 people for dinner waitresses dressed in ripped jeans low cut crop top asked what you want to drink we did not even see menu to choose I had at 28 £ fillet steak chips onion rings and Tom asked for medium came out well done service not so so good needs directions by restaurant manager if they got on was not to be seen did not say anything as with company first time I had olives in my freash salade

Been a few times now as discovered this place during covid when then had all the outside dining set up, but it’s very lovely inside now we have had chance to go again. We hadn’t booked but they were very accommodating.

Great setting great service lovely atmosphere beef not cooked to my personal liking prefer medium well done garlic mushrooms exquisite no chicken left on menu late Sunday evening didn’t have sweet was discouraged by eating beef I had not specified how it was preferred my son felt the same was 40 th birthday treat hope this helps to improve my next visit will be returning soon thanks to the staff who welcomed and served me

We visited Corner House as 2 couples in January. When we entered, all the waiting on staff were wearing masks, which was great to see. The menu was varied and accounted for food intolerances. Each of the party thought that the tastes of each course were excellent and well presented. The staff were attentive and well mannered throughout, without being over powering. We had a lovely evening with some great food and would definitely return.

Had a Birthday Sunday Lunch here yesterday with my wife, daughter & her partner. Food was reasonable as was the service. For us it was completely spoiled as were we not aware Dogs were allowed into the restaurant area. If we would have known this prior to booking there would be no chance whatsoever we would have booked a table. Totally spoiled our lunch and will not be going back. Not everyone wants strangers dogs near their table when they are eating.

Prominently located on a corner/junction this pub-restaurant has a big car park. Nicely decorated inside with quality crockery the service was good with reception multi tasking as waitress. The menu was not too large and reasonably priced. There was the usual children’s menu. We has chicken supreme, dauphinoise potatoes and fresh vegetables.tender chicken, garlicky potatoes and crisp mangetout, broccoli and carrot; chicken strips with chorizo, creamy sauce and rice; classic pepperoni pizza, 12 inch and nice and crisp. House wine was £5.60 for a 250ml glass. Coffee, extra hot as requested and a larger than usual double expresso were good and not over priced. Surprisingly enjoyable and good value, at least by standards in the south.

Very average indeed : Sunday roast apparently : chicken breast cut lengthways with a leg bone sticking out???! Hey? What’s kind of wonky chicken was that! 3 blanched green beans, 3 fried potatoes, not roast potatoes… very slow service yet quite friendly. Waiting staff and lovely deco made up for the very poor food!

Went here for family celebration. Dining area very tasteful and clean. Staff very nice and attentive. Food really good and served nice and hot. Very enjoyable night

Went as a party of 10 for my wife birthday. No complaints other than one bottle of wine not being cold but a minor issue. Everybody in our party loved the food which was served piping hot and very nicely presented. The black pudding starter was a delight as was all the other starters. Every one enjoyed the mains especially the roasted cod and the pie. My steak cooked how I like it. I would recommend this restaurant as the food was excellent, the staff also attentive and pleasant. We visited the Cornerhouse on the evening of Friday the 30th of July there were four of us and we were made to feel very welcome by Luke with excellent service and a good range of menu options I opted for the chicken strips which were mixed with chorizo in a rich tasty paprika sauce it was served with a mound of rice with straw potatoes over the top. My partner had a rumpsteak which she enjoyed and our friends had the risotto we all enjoyed our meal and it created a pleasant evening.

Whilst out for the day we stopped off for lunch. This was a lovely venue, service and standards excellent. The quality of the food, it’s presentation etc really pleasing.

We had a delicious meal at Corner House. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food clearly made to order. We could certainly recommend the beef stroganoff and chicken supreme.

10 of us were camping nearby and went here and 9 loved the food. Only the steak and ale pie that one of my friends had was a bit dry. My burger was excellent and my wife's stroganoff was really good. Lovely pub with really friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely go back.

Not good at all. Starter was ok, had black pudding and poached egg muffin. Fish and chips were dry, had to ask for tarter sauce wish I had not bothered as was crap. Shall not bother going again.

Came here with friends for tea .I had the gammon which was really nice , hot, tasty and well presented .My friends all had something different off the menu and they all said the food was really good .The staff were really friendly and helpful .Would definitely recommend and return .

We visited for my birthday. We had booked but on arrival our table wasn't ready so we were asked to wait in the bar. We ordered nibbles to keep us going until main courses came. 35 minutes later still no food!! We were starving and could see the table next to us had starters and main courses while we were left waiting! It seemed one young man who was very polite was doing all the running around. He tried really hard to serve all the busy tables while the blonde waitress and waiter with man bun did very little! Many customers were going to the bar to order drinks because they were fed up waiting for staff to come to the tables . Despite all this the fish and chips and pizza were delicious so a shame service so slow! Maybe they need more than one waiter to serve a busy Saturday night.

5 Stars! Sunday Roast. I had the roast beef and it was amazing. Perfectly cooked, amazing Yorkshire puds! Friend had the sea bass which was full of flavour. 100% recommend, not a bad word to say. Service was immaculate, lovely approachable staff. Will be coming again.

Just been to corner house for a roast, it was dreadful I’ve been coming here years as we live local and recently have noticed food quality declining, my husband couldn’t eat his roast potatoes as they were greasy, I am lactose free so had different potatoes, they were cold, veg very hard and my gravy watery and greasyI didn’t pay for my meal and won’t be visiting again they need a new chef!!

Reserved a table for an early Friday Night dinner @ the Corner House. Because of , we arrived in masks & sanitised our hands. The friendly staff took our details via scan (using your mobile) @ reception & escorted us to the table. The restaurant is quite roomy, beautifully decorated with high ceilings. Airy. Nice atmosphere. Feels safe. For a Starter, my husband & I both ordered the the king prawn with chorizo. A lovely dish served in a little pan, with a nice garlic sauce, accompanied with bread. Delicious. Very French . Our Main course was Fish & Chips with mushy peas. The fish was golden brown, very crispy & hot. It is one of the best fish & chips we both had in awhile. Fresh, tasty with a lovely crispy batter. The mushy peas & chips...well prepared.We had a really nice evening dinner @ the Corner House. The friendly staff was impeccable in their service, which makes a difference when eating out. And the chef ‍....During this time of , we look forward to going out for a lovely meal, whilst trying to find a balance during this extraordinary time.Highly recommend .

Went for lunch with family of 3 . The food and service was top notch. Had a starter soup of the day king prawns and chorizo and garlic mushrooms. We all had the baked cod with crushed potatoes broccoli and a creamy pea sauce. All absolutely bang on the cod was cooked superbly. Would defo go again

Visited with my wife on Saturday for our anniversary and we had an amazing evening. Food was amongst the best I've had, service was fantastic and everything felt safe with tables well spread out. Busy enough to have a good atmosphere but not packed. We were planning a family meal later in the week before our son goes back to uni so we booked again for this Thursday. Went back last night. Very busy. We were put on a table next to another group and the tables were no more the 0.5m apart.Asked to be moved, they did offer us another table which was probably just a metre away from others but that's all they'd offer and gave the impression we were just being difficult. I made the point they seemed to be cramming people in but they ignored that and seated another family on the table we were originally given. They didn't look comfortable with it.Starters were good, but the mains this time were very disappointing. They had a big group in so maybe the food suffered as a result. You wouldn't have thought it was the same place we visited only 5 days earlier, poles apart. Not sure I'll rush back now.

Sunday 6th Sept. 6 of us for late lunch. Starters, all good, mains all good. Sunday roast was the best I've had in years around the Standish area. Very good value. Staff were great too. Booked in again for 15th.

We met with family there Saturday afternoon. 5 of us in total plus 2 dogs. We had never been before and we all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon there. Lovely staff. Great food. We all agreed it was a good choice of venue and would look forward to a return visit.

Visited on bank holiday Monday. The fish was mainly batter , very thick not much fish , very disappointed.

I went to try this restaurant on the Sunday afternoon 30/08/20.at 16.00 recommended by a friend.first at arrivel we asked by 3x diferente waitress.Name and what time was the booking.then after 10 minutes waiting to to be show to a table.again I especif.To the girl that I have ask on the day before when I made the booking that I wanted the restaurant. She come back..and said I am really sorry but we are full.Again we a left with no drinks offer.for 20 minutes.i didn't see in organisation.no one at reception to attend to customers. At this time we just ad enough. And WALK out..

We called in here for our dinner, the place had been done up during lock down. The meal was very good.

Very good service from start to finish from smartly dressed servers. Basic menu of traditional fayre so not too many choices, chose today's specials of king prawn and chilli with chorizo. Mains of salmon salad (Very good piece of salmon). The baked cheese starter was nicely presented and lovely to eat whilst the enclosed pastry crusted steak pie had enough tasty meat and pasty proving very filling. All for a very reasonable price.

Came here for dinner as we were staying at a campsite near by. We sat in the garden as we had our dogs with us, staff were great and got the dogs water to drink. The food was absolutely delicious, good portions and was so tasty. The kids really enjoyed their dinner too, sometimes kids food is an after thought but here it isn’t. The staff were great, really polite, helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. We thoroughly recommend coming here. All in all it was snazztastic!

Our first visit for some months, but we were very pleased to be back. Tables well spaced and staff wearing masks gave degree of safety in these challenging times. Food was very good and we thought probably the best we have had at Corner House, delicious chicken supreme and chicken Caesar’s. Staff very pleasant and efficient, and very reasonable price for the meal and drinks.

Table of 4 booked. Arrived to find table been allocated not ready and not in best place. Took one in other room which had 2 parties in. Felt awkward and quite noisy at times. Service diabolical! Long time since been anywhere and waited so long for drinks. Asked about them 3 times. Food service slightly better. Food good but not sensational. Think this place ready for a bit of tlc. Looks sad compared to last visit quite a few years ago. Dont think we will be rushing back.

Went on a Tuesday evening without knowing it was pie night. I started with pan fried pigeon breast with black pudding which was nice but not outstanding. For main I had a superb cock and bull pie with a peppercorn sauce. It was delicious and was sorry when it had all gone. Went in a party of 4 and we all enjoyed the food.

Our first visit in some time and we couldn't fault the food we were served. The standard of the starters, especially the black pudding was exceptional. The steaks were very nicely cooked and tasty. Service was also very good and friendly. Our one criticism is that, it really is time to update the menu. We've been eating at this restaurant for many years and the menu hasn't changed.

Three of us had an excellent meals, really good service, resulting in a very enjoyable visit in nice surroundings.

Eight of us regularly meet for lunch and have been here a number of times. I've never been disappointed. This time I had the goat's cheese crostini, sea bass, Bakewell tart then finished off with a good double macchiato and petit four. I was stuffed but happy! Great service as usual.

Two of our ladies do not eat dessert and requested fresh fruit. It came in large half shaped melon cut out and filled with chopped fresh fruit. It looked amazing

Enjoyed meal with friends here. The food was simple but tasty. Felt it was slightly overpriced though at £17.99 for 2 courses and over £5 for a glass of wine (which was very nice by the way). I suppose you get what you pay for but I'm sure you could eat equally as well for less in the area.

Been here a couple of times now when in the area. The food is excellent and nicely presented. The service is first class and the staff are efficient and friendly. Stopped today for Sunday lunch which was really nice. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the comfortable bar area which is a nice touch.

We meet up with some friends from Liverpool and chose the Corner House as a good half way point, none of us had been there before.

We have been customers at the the corner house for some years and have found that lately with new decor and a refreshed menu it has really had a face lift. Staff are very pleasant and it is a pleasure to eat there. We have been a few times in the last 6-8 weeks and have not been disappointed.

We were only passing the area and came across here and decided to stop for lunch and so glad we did. Staff were accommodating and friendly. The menu is great with a big choice of gluten, dairy free and vegetarian. When the food came, it wasn't only great tasting but looked and presented well. Would definitely recommend going here, well worth it!

I booked a table for my husband and I for New Years Day as my daughter had got us a voucher for Christmas as a treat as I’d spent all Christmas, cooking, wrapping and shopping. It was a treat for me to go out and have my tea made for me.

Bit like a Wetherspoons with food to match. The fish and chips was mostly batter, goats cheese was plain, and there was a band blasting away while our party tried to eat. Will avoid

Large eating areas so not always a need to book a table. Very friendly staff who were attentive but not too much. Food was excellent with a good choice. Reasonable prices.Always eat there when in area visiting family. Would recommend.

I visited the corner house Wrightington in November 2019 with friends for dinner. We hadn't booked and as there was only one table occupied in the restaurant area we were easily accommodated. However, the one young waitress serving was not professional at all and she looked and acted like she wanted to be somewhere else. Despite the restaurant not being busy we waited in excess of 25 minutes to place our order. I ordered 'pig on a plate' and was very disappointed with the food which was average and came with overcooked rice. Also the restaurant was cold and the heating seemed to be on low despite it being November. However, that said it was a nice quiet venue so my friends and I were able to have a conversation with ease without loud music or other noisy guests, but I probably won't be rushing back because there's much nicer places to eat locally.

Party of 36 visited on Friday evening, most of whom had the 3 course set menu. Everything went very smoothly, food was absolutely superb, arrived quickly but without rushing us. Staff were really friendly and helpful - oh and patient whilst we were taking family photos between courses, and allowed us to pay separate bills which was a massive help. Would 100% recommend for a group, or just a couple!

invited to dinner here for a golden wedding anniversary , never been before even though its quite near where we live, its a lovely place , tastefully decorated, good atmosphere, staff very friendly and efficient and the food is great i had goats cheese salad to start then cod for my main meal even though we weren't paying the prices were on the menu and they offer a 2 or 3 course option at what i consider to be great rates , will definitely be back

Good menu, plenty of choice. Everyone was happy with there food choice. Very fresh, very tasty. The restaurant itself has lovely decor. Its a lovely relaxing place to meet with family and enjoy food.

The food here is lovely, especially the steaks; the staff are always friendly and helpful but the decor always used to put me off a bit. Not anymore! What a transformation! It really was a pleasure to eat in such pleasant surroundings. Nice and tranquil, very tasteful and on trend with just the right touches of colour We’ll be coming back! Great food in a great place! The Corner House is the essence of a good country pub. Service is impeccable, with a great and well thought out menu. The starters and mains were perfectly cooked with great attention to detail. The staff were attentive and courteous whilst serving, but not overly so as is sometimes the case in some pubs.

We found this place by accident and really very glad we did. Excellent food, great table service and very good value. Will be heading back soon and would recommend that you give this place a try.

Try the Corner house at Wrightington for excellent food and really friendly staff.Having eaten there we can vouch for the delicious food and we regularly call in on Thursdays for a quick drink after badminton. We love to travel around and this place is close to friends in wrightington, food is lovely, drinks a little pricey compared to other pubs around, but overall a great place with lovely outdoor seating area. We will certainly be back for a visit again soon.

Haven't been for a couple of years and was impressed the first time so I was happy to go for Lunch the second time and chose off the Lunch menu. I had one of the best risottos I have ever eaten. Dessert was perfect. Wine menu very good. it was busy with Locals which is always a good sign. Recommend you book just incase and you need a designated driver as it not near public transport. Plenty of parking and you can sit out side. Dogs welcome.

Really good evening here with fabulous food. Service was prompt and friendly. Good choice of menu with ample vegetarian options. Would definitely go again and recommend it highly.

8 of us sat down to eat on a Saturday evening, we had a mixture of 2 course and 3 course meals, all the food was delicious and the service great, good choice of starters, mains and deserts. The steak and Ale pie was in a beautiful rich sauce the steaks cooked to perfection.

Rang in the afternoon for a bar table for 6pm...we got a booth! Really great as we had lots to talk about and it felt quite private. We had the two courses for £16 and a bottle of wine. We had pate and goats cheese tartlet to start and steak and ale pie and salmon salad for mains. All was good, well presented and hot. Didn’t care for the prawns on mine and I’m not a lover of raw salmon. But all in all a good night out and nice atmosphere.

Brilliant food at decent prices spot on the staff are friendly and helpful and very welcoming cant go wrong.

Service was fast and friendly. The pig in a pan was to die for and the sticky toffee pudding tipped me over the edge! Yum!

Visited on Tuesday night for Steak night. Excellent value, two rump steaks and a bottle of wine for £25. Steak aren't big but still good value and were excellently cooked. Great size portion of sauce too. I had the peppercorn and my wife had the Diane. I'd suggest the diane sauce was the better option, more flavour.

I visited the Corner House on 21st May 2019 for dinner. I had a starter of smoked salmon and garden pea risotto with soft poached egg. For my main course, I had roast salmon fillet with crushed potatoes, asparagus and a herb cream sauce. Service was friendly and efficient. Both courses were excellent and I duly passed on my compliments to the chef.

We booked a table for 6 for a lunch catch up with our parents . Food and service was so good and so reasonable on price too. If a bit of money was put in to modernise the decor , this would be the best place to eat in the area by a mile x

Service was absolutely horrendous waited over hour for our food it would appear no supervision of restaurant staff they only look towards bar area

Unfortunately I’m a diary free diet many restaurants don’t cater for me but I was pleased to see a change in menu and decided to return to the corner house recently The toasted focaccia with advocado edamame beans etc etc was just yummy loved it. My husband also enjoyed his fillet steak with peppercorn sauce veg and chips. I hope this is the start of diary free choices that people like myself have no choice due to health reasons to eat. Just one more step maybe nice if you could provide alternative to milk so I could finish my lovely meal off with a nice coffee ie soy almond or coconut milks. I love soups too but most have cleams or lots of full fat milks so again be nice to have options or maybe add cream at a later stage

Sat in restaurant, lovely atmosphere. Loved the trio of garlic bread, catered to the kids very well- surprising saying it was such a busy day. Served by a very polite curly haired lass who made sure our glasses were never empty. Great time, planning on coming again next year if there’s room

First time visit. Well worth the trip as the food was excellent. There was a fixed menu even on a Friday with either 2/3 courses. The choice was wide and varied. For mains the sea bass was very fresh and I'd recommend this . My partner had the Thai green curry and commented how tasty this was. The price is very reasonable and it was a friendly environment. Overall I'd visit again

This was my first visit and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and it was competitively priced. 2 courses for £16 on a Saturday night is good - as long as the food is good too. It was! Service was great - very efficient. The only downside was the room that we were seated in - high vaulted ceiling, noisy and very little ambience. Next time I'd insist on the main 'pub' area. Will definitely return.

I visited the Corner House with my sister and her husband. The staff were all very attentive and pleasant.

The wife and I called in on the off chance mid week. We were met by friendly staff and pleased that we were able to have a table. Even more pleasing was the value of the mid week menu, 2 courses for £16. Two excellent starters of goats cheese tartlet for the wife and bury black pudding for me. Very tasty. For the main, carbonara pasta and a fine 8oz gammon steak cooked to perfection. We were really pleased with the standard of cooking, portion size and ambiance of the place. Excellent value

Arrived to have Sunday lunch with my family having been recommended by a friend.

Went there this evening with my fiancée. Great service and food. I would like to pay a special thanks to Jane and Mandy who were very pleasant and made our evening an enjoyable one. Would highly recommend this place as a great place to eat or drink.

Have been before some time ago and was happy with the meal. On this occasion the service was friendly, but not attentive, despite the restaurant being quiet. My friend and I both had the carrot and coriander soup, which was very nice and a Cod bake for main - this was quite dry, overcooked, and did not have the fresh appearance and texture I would expect; also the main meal was not hot and the green beans, even though I like them with a crunch, where, for me, undercooked. I won't be rushing back.

We've eaten here many times before but tonight we found a boring atmosphere, mediocre food and unsmiling staff. The shape and layout of the rooms means it has always struggled in my mind to generate a warm atmosphere, but somehow the food has always made up for it. Tonight the food was poor with over cooked fish, overbattered chicken & lifeless veg. Not good value at the price.

A massive improvement since my last visit. The food was quite simply delicious. The service was faultless. Go there!

Visited midweek 6.30 pm, was quite quiet when we arrived however started to get busier.

Eight of us went for Sunday lunch and most of us had 3 courses. I really enjoyed the sea bass which came with plenty of well cooked veg (a slight crunch, not overdone). I also liked my lemon tart. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. Good service.

First time here and it won't be our last based on tonight's meals. Various options on seating with restuarant or bar area and to be fair the bar area looked more relaxing than the restuarant. Tonight we had food from the weekday special menu of 2 courses £16 and were very happy. Goats cheese plate was excellent and the blackpudding stack with perfect poached egg was as good. Mains of gammon and lancashire cheese pie were the best we have eaten for a long time. Attentive servers and service made us feel welcome and can wholly recommend eating here.

We walked up to the Cornerhouse fo a family meal taking advantage of the nice bank holiday weekend weather, we asked if they had a table and after a quick check we were shown to our table.
