Decided to have the Steak & Ale Pie. Would have given the meal 5 stars if the pie hadn’t been microwaved. The pastry was very rubbery and inedible, however the meat inside was good. Staff was friendly and the service was quick. If we do return I would try another dish. Easy to park.

Fab a little expensive but you pay for what you get. Don't get the arancini though as it was disappointing the rice and chicken were mushed and so had little texture or flavour.

This is an amazing rural pub and restaurant that is open from 9am for breakfast. The food is simply the best with local produce and a wide variety of choice. Not like some places who won’t let the customers alter their meal the staff will make sure you get what you want on your plate. Poached eggs that were cooked to perfection and proper sourdough toast! Heaven. Thank you

Visited on a Sunday evening following a level day at the races. We ordered hot n spicy Pizza and a meat feast. The mrs had gammon steak. The food was super tasty and piping hot. For once a pub that serves proper spicy pizza. All too often there are about 2 jalapeños on a “spicy” pizza. But this bad boy had plenty on with red chillies as well. Brilliant. The meat feast my daughter had were stacked with toppings and the cheese was plentiful. The gammon steak was as thick as the doorstep into the pub! And looked delicious. Ellie and Matt have done a brilliant job in creating a local pub and restaurant that Hunger Hill should be very proud to have. We are lucky to know them a little through our football team and it’s clear the hard work of the team of the restaurant adds to the brilliant customer service. The serving girls never stop walking around checking if food is correct and whether the drinks need replenishing. First time eating there for us. It certainly won’t be the last.

Disgusting Experience – Never Returning I’ve been a regular at The White Lion, but after my recent visit on Saturday, September 28th, I will never return. My girlfriend and I came for breakfast and, what started as a usual meal, quickly turned into an appalling experience. As we began eating, a waitress came over to ask if everything was okay, but before we could answer, we saw a small, defenseless field mouse run across the floor. What followed was about 15 minutes of my girlfriend and the waitress trying to catch it—until the chef stepped in and disgustingly stamped on it, killing it. This was an unnecessary and appalling act. If food hygiene was the concern, how does spreading the mouse’s remains across the floor, and onto the chef’s shoes, which he would wear all day, meet hygiene standards? The entire situation was handled horribly. My girlfriend, who had been trying to catch the poor creature, was left shocked and upset, watching as her food went cold, only for the mouse to be violently killed. This was a revolting display, and we are completely disgusted. I will be taking this experience further because this establishment should be ashamed of itself. Never again.

The entrance to the dining area via the steps was not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The food was far too hot when it arrived and took ages to cool to a ready to eat temperature. The gammon was very salty. The service staff were very good. They were friendly and very obliging. The atmosphere was very hot and extremely noisy, to the extent that it was even difficult to have a conversation with persons sat next to. It didn't used to be like that. Some kind of air conditioning is needed and maybe less overcrowding.

Lovely seating area outside and fantastic service from the staff - they couldn’t have been more welcoming or attentive - 5 stars for them. Let down by the meals - the steak and ale pie was only lukewarm warm, the pastry was solid, heavy and had to be left mostly uneaten. The chips were very large, underdone and not tasty or crisp. Wish we’d ordered the fries instead. Such a shame as everything else was perfect. May visit again and try something different but it has put us off somewhat.

We’ve been regulars at this restaurant, usually visiting at least once a week, but lately, we’ve noticed a general drop in quality. The food has become inconsistent, and the service has been slower and less attentive. This used to be a favorite spot, but with the recent decline, we’ve decided to avoid it for a few months. Hopefully, it will return to its former standard, but for now, we’ll be exploring other options.

14th August 2024 ‘Wandering Wednesday’ this week took Huster Neil and I on a new venture to a beautiful country pub in Wrightington, Wigan, called ‘The White Lion’…which I found via Google. The car park was packed, with plenty of customers inside, despite this, we soon found out why! we were seated straight away, we chose our dishes and our choices were taken in no time at all….food waiting time, was just cooking time, there was plenty of staff inside and they were all very attentive and we wanted for nothing…… this business is ‘very well organised’. The food reviews were excellent, ‘4.6 stars out of 5 from 2.3K reviews’ and it was this, along with a very good varied menu that stood out to us….. We went straight to entrées: Neil had Fish, ‘proper chips’ and mushy peas….. he’s has eaten a lot of fish and chips from our Wandering Wednesdays and this fish was the best yet, it was a HUGE and THICK piece of Cod, he said the batter was thin and crisp, chunks of thick cod flakes, totally perfect. I had the sizzling pulled pork with wok fried veggies, paprika BBQ sauce….. it was PACKED with pulled pork, the flavours were delicious, this came with half rice, half proper chips….. this dish was so delicious. We shared a garlic bread pizza with cheese, this was homemade too with and very thin crispy base, finished off with a mixed salad bowl. This place is faultless….and VERY good value for money for the excellent quality of the food. This pub is a ‘MUST’ Would we turn???? 100000000% YES

HOW NOT TO STARVE IN WIGAN AND OTHER IMPRESSIONS There are places where it's impossible to get a bad meal. Then there are places where it's possible, but you don't—if you're smart and lucky. There is, in other words, a spectrum. Where does Wigan fall? Well, there's good food to be had in Wigan, for sure. There is, for example, the Foresters Arms, where you can not only have excellent pub food and proper pints, but you can also have them served to you by Francesca, the Miracle of Wigan. And if you're smart, you'll just accept that Francesca's recommendations for where to eat when visiting Wigan, of all places, are going to be the best that Wigan has to offer, and you ask her out on a date. So where does one take Francesca for dinner if you happen to be so lucky? The answer came from Francesca herself: The White Lion, Wrightington. And she knows, because Francesca used to work there. And once you arrive at the White Lion and park your rented BMW next to the other snazzy cars in the parking lot and have your left sideview mirror nearly taken clean off by a lady opening her car door as you pull into your spot, you will be struck immediately by the fact that the White Lion is maybe the only place you ever have to go to eat in Wigan, of all places. Here's why: The staff at the White Lion is . . . well, let me put it this way: If you're wondering where the straight hotties of Wigan are—the sort of wholesome ones you can introduce to mum and da, not the ones with really exaggerated eyelash extensions and mini-skirts that show off not only the legs but a good bit of the bum as well, and who you just know have boyfriends with the sort of face tattoos you can certainly get in other places but which if it's a face tattoo you're after, well, you might as well get it in Wigan—they're working at the White Lion. Like Joni, for example. Joni's the lass in the photo with the beers. And she is a keeper, keeper, keeper. And it's not just her stunning good lucks, utter lack of face tattoos, and the fact that she's brandishing two pints of the proper stuff. No, it's that Joni has vibe for days. Vibe, vibe, vibe. When I asked Joni if I could take a photo of her, she didn't hesitate for a second. No. Cuz Joni's got the killer instinct that says, "Oh, you just go ahead and take that photo, you handsome and intriguing foreigner, you. What do you want? Want me to give you provocative? Sexy? Nasty?" While many women would say, "Hold my beer," Joni needs no such assistance. She'll hold the beers—both of them—thank you very much. My point, obviously, is that Wigan doesn't really fall on the spectrum at all, and that's no bad thing. You can get bad food, sure. And you can get really very good food (the Sunday roast, particularly the lamb, at the White Lion is just the ticket, as it were). But nobody comes to Wigan for the food. I'm not even sure anyone comes to Wigan, not on purpose anyway. But if you happen to be in Wigan—say, for the Richard Ashcroft homecoming concert at Robin Park—and you happen to be open to its charms, you can discover, well, its charms. Those charms are these (in no particular order): Joni and the other wildly attractive and vibe-ous staff and Sunday roast and proper pints at the White Lion. Francesca, the Miracle of Wigan, and the Foresters Arms. And the fact of Wigan itself, which is notable for being a place where some people live. Where you can drink proper pints. And eat food. Some of it good. But also where, if you know where to look, you can meet Francesca at the Foresters Arms and, if you're lucky, take her on a date to the White Lion, where you can meet Joni and, if she'll have you, take her on a date to the Foresters Arms. And, if you play your cards right, you can get out of Wigan without having gotten a face tattoo. Or if you maybe didn't play your cards right, but you didn't play them too badly either, you get just a small face tattoo.

Come here quite a bit but tonight was not great, this is constructive criticism not a moan as like the place, but the Fish tacos were tasteless, no coriander as stated and served in Old El Paso flour tortilla boats from the supermarket, Fish tacos are about taste and construction. The ploughman’s was really a basic grazing board, granted a basic ploughman’s is bread, cheese and pickle so yeah bit of ham and some chutney extra but not a ploughman’s like the animals head down the road into Wigan. The fillet steak baguette was poor, chewy, not much meat and not good quality so in a nutshell easy to improve on as doesn’t compare to a lot of places nearby so hopefully will be taken on board and improved on as want it to be much better🤞

We were ushered into an empty room on the ground floor with no indication from the waitress that this was the room used to accommodate dogs and their owners. We were asked would we like to order drinks. I ordered a glass 0f ordinary water and was served with a glass tumbler filled to overflowing at the brim, so much so I could not lift it. I called the waitress over and asked if she would please give me a straw and for this she had to go back presumably to the bar. WE ordered our food and did not have to wait too long but as it was served two people came and were seatedi mmediately behind us. They had two very large dogs, one a german shepherd and the other looked similar to apyrinean mountain dog. Very soon a table further down became occupied by a small yapping dog and it's owners, this was then met with another couple and their dog. At that point it became a farce of an evening of dining out. WE felt and it looked like we were dining in the kennels. May I please re-iterate at NO TIME WERE WE EVER ADVISED THAT THIS WOULD BE THE CASE. When we could get the waitress attention and get her and her colleague away from petting the dogs, we asked to be moved into the dining room proper, which she said might be difficult but did eventually find us a table. The food was very good but spoiled by the thoughts as to whether hands had been thoroughly cleansed after stroking the dogs. There is obviously a staff training need here re hygiene, plus communication skills. It will be a long time before we come again, if ever.

Always love going the white lion but last night wasn't great..Chips which are normally amazing where soggy and very bland..my peas where rock hard..My partner had the lamb kebab which she left due to it being very chewy and fatty..Bring back the fajitas!!

We had a lovely meal with our daughter, a very extensive menu, and we had real difficulty in choosing. We settled on the lamb, which was delicious

We were invited out for lunch, to a place we have not been before. Atmosphere spot on, very nice surroundings both in and out. Outside seating very varied and all very nice and great for intimate dining. The staff were great met with a smile and this continued. Service great AND the food was both presented very well and the taste matched. Many thanks, to Megan, and also the guy who served us, you will definitely see us again. The chicken and bacon baggettes with chips was delicious, and looked good and alot of it. Just great thanks to everybody.

Always such a great experience. Nice and easy to book on line and you can also reserve dog friendly tables both inside and out. Outside ones are nice heated booths. Friendly reception when you get there and this friendly culture is reflected all through the staff. They are so chatty and also make a fuss of the dogs. Food is of a very good quality, served quickly and with a smile.

We were visiting WWT Martin Mere and were looking for a cafe for breakfast to set us up for a day of walking and bird watching. We found ‘The Farm’ online and headed there on our way. When you arrive it doesn’t look much from the outside, but once you walk through the door it is welcoming, cosy and has a lot to offer. We ordered Full English Breakfast and it was very tasty and nicely presented. It came with toast which was a nice bonus, as so many places now you have to order it separately. There is a small farm shop which forms part of the cafe and has a nice range of local produce including small gifts and cards. We bought a couple of Rhubarb Pies to take away with us and they were delicious too! Would definitely recommend this establishment.

Have been here a few times and the quality of food and service has never been less than excellent. Friendly staff, really good service and excellent food at reasonable prices. This is definitely one of my favourites in Ormskirk.

I have visited Bramley's several times over recent year and have always found it to be a lovely experience. I usually order the same Breakfast Bite and they always tweak it for me without any question. As previously mentioned, it's great to get an extra pot of hot water with tea. It's always a good cuppa, but can afford to have extra water and still be good. This visit I took my friend, who lives outside the area, she was really impressed and can't wait to bring her husband to try it next time The food is always good, with generous portions. It's great that it's independent and not a chain. Usually a good sign for fresh homemade food. Well worth a visit.

What an interesting conundrum, is this a 5 or a 4, I am going for a 4, and for the next few lines going to explain why. We were met, greeted and sat down, our pre meal drinks order taken effortlessly whilst we sat until our table was made ready; whilst waiting for our table, the staff kept our glasses topped up, in a nice provision of service. We enjoyed each course and from a technical prospective the food was masterly cooked and enjoyable, but that was it - enjoyable, there was no real dish that stretched or surprised the palate, which in my view is the sign of an aspirational restaurant not pushing its self. The level of service through the meal was excellent. Highlights of the meal - the cauliflower course and Hoggart slice / jus. Would I go back - certainly and will do so and the next menu change is made.
