Great place to stop for a coffee or another drink with great selection of cakes to meet everybody's tastes (I've loved all i've tried). Lovely owner .

Great little pub: was really busy early evening despite seemingly being in the middle of nowhere. Notwithstanding a small hiccup which was swiftly sorted, the food was incredible and the staff were very attentive. Really cosy old pub with a friendly atmosphere, really reasonably priced too

We came here for dinner and all I can say is the food was outstanding! Taste sensation. We were very well looked after by the waitressing staff as well — well done!

What a place! Great real ales, excellent home made pasties and open fires . There's also an impressive mead selection and commodes for chairs. Great place for a lazy pub day with the dog

The service was excellent: friendly and fast. We needed a quick breakfast before walking Scafell Pike and this bakery did us proud. The music was really good: the Beatles. The sausage rolls I bought to take away were amazing. They had a brilliant meat-to-pastry ratio. You must go here if you get a chance. The hot cross buns were lovely.

We were staying in a little cottage a mile down the road for a week around Cumbria and this was the closest and ended up being one of the best little bolt holes of bliss in the Duddon Valley. So welcoming, it became a local for my husband and I and if we ever move up there, we’ll be back in being local like a shot. The food was extensive with a separate superb vegetarian and vegan menu. I have been struggling with a mutated smell and taste for two years and they were so accommodating when I asked for 3 chips with my curry, and 3 was what I had on the plate. Perfect, made us and all of them laugh. I love the sincerity here and the comforting vibe. I actually feel quite bereft we don’t live next door it’s so good.

Full breakfast is far too meat orientated . As much as I like bacon sausage and black pudding I also like a whole tomato , mushrooms and beans . This came with only half a tomato and no mushroom or beans. Poor quality toast . Flat white fat too milky . Will not hurry back .

Visited The Old King’s head during a weekend in the Lakes with a group of friends and we all enjoyed it. A good wholesome menu, great service, nice drinks selection and our food was lovely! Majority of us had fish and chips, which was amazing! Massive with clean tasty beer batter and nice chips, we were all stuff. One of our friends was a bit disappointed with her burger from the specials as it was pretty small and basic served on a huge board…but enjoyed it nonetheless.

We had lunch here and the food was outstanding- the menu is small but when the food is fab it’s fab! My husband had a Baguette with the best accompaniment salad he has ever had and I had the soup and a cheese scone which was lush! The coffee and cakes finished it off perfectly and the staff were brilliant

Solía vivir en la zona y este pub está entre los mejores. Comida, cerveza inglesa, dueños maravillosos. No puedo esperar a visitarlo de nuevo algún día.

Tried to visit this place again after an amazing experience in 2021 and found it’s closed down. Disappointing as was an outstanding place.
