We have visited twice over the last few months. Both times we have been treated to the most amazing and delicious food. Everyone who works here is brilliant and they never stop. They are so welcoming and friendly. I have had the eggs Benedict both times and I can honestly say I have never tasted them better elsewhere. My husband had the breakfast and he thoroughly enjoyed it. We can’t wait to visit again. Highly recommended ✅

Having booked a table in another pub in the village and found it wanting, we headed over to this one. It appeared that this was where the locals go, as it was busy compared to the other. Great range of beers and ales, unlike the other place that had one. Loved the pie and peas and came away with a very cheap bar tab... Thank you.

Absolutely wonderful place. Cosy atmosphere with log fire and warm cosy spots to sit over a drink and a meal. We had lunch fabulous fresh sandwich on Brown bloomer bread which tasted like it had just been made. The fillings were amazing I had the Aubergine and courgette with an amazing sauce. We also thought we would like some of the hand cut chips and OMG they were so tasty and definitely not to be missed. The other sandwich was a Bay Club - Chicken Parma Ham and tomato apparently delicious as well. Chicken very moist and very tasty. the sandwiches are served with a little dish of coleslaw which didn't disappoint. Service was great lovely friendly staff who served with a smile and made us feel so welcome. Can't wait to call again which is going to be Tuesday with my Vegan daughter and her baby, so looking forward to it; she will love the food and deserves a special treat.

Nice cosy cafe, lovely cake and coffee. I had my young grandson with me who also had a cake and a drink. Unfortunately the lady who served us could have been a bit warmer towards us as she was towards another family who came in after us. Just didn't feel very welcome there, a pity because everything else was great.

I refuse to hide behind an anonymous user name so this is my review -.Really disappointed. This is in a beutiful location but it is a shame to see how the quality of the food has degenerated over the past year. We also used to bring our many foreign visitors because of the impressive history and location. Last week, on Friday evening, I took my mother and family members for an early mothers day treat. There were only six other people i the restaurant and it was quite cold because the radiators were off and there was no other heating. The person running the place was serving behind the bar as well as taking orders, waiting on tables ans clearing up - there was no other staff apparent. This should have been a clue for what was to come ! I ordered a large fish and chips but the portion was small, less than your usual standard chippy size and was servied on a small oval place. For the price there was nothing special about it. My mother aged 82 ordered a small fish and the size caused some humour when it arrived as it was miniscule - it look as if it was someones left over re- issued. The other meals were verypoor in quality and size and I will not take up space to mention them here. I did not want to cause a scene so we paid the 81pound bill for meal and drinks and left the premises vowing never to cross the doorstep again. Please save your money and do not come to this place - you will be disappointed. Please have a look at my daughters review on Trip advisor - She is better at words than I.

We had a family meal at the Thornton Arms at Christmas time 2024. It was absolutely superb! Great menu, great service, great food. As near to home cooked food or better actually. Super friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended!! We also had a Christmas meal on Christmas Day, in a word-it was superb!!! A better meal & we have yet to experience. Thank you to all concerned.

Sad.....called in 4/5 months ago, just average and told staff same, overpriced for £57 x2 scampi and chips, peas x 2 drinks. Today, gave them another chance.. Strange, different menu but all very expensive prices, and higher than last time! Took drinks from bar sat and looked at menu.... pondered the selection and for a quick bite of lunch far far too dear... again £8.60 alantanic prawn etc... lamb burger £18.90 chips etc .. chuffin hec! Actually got up and walked out, before offering to pay for drinks only.. The manager looked stunned a little, but told him," to dear mate, far too dear"..he generously did not want payment for drinks which was a great gesture. Told me the head chef fixes prices not him, which I can appreciate, but these prices explained a couple of women drinking in one corner and another couple far back from bar, think dining..This place should be packed at least 10 or more tables taken, bring the prices down from London prices and get rid of the chef!!!!reading reviews for the food.. What a shame good location, busy road, plenty of passing trade, tourist route.. why so poor in reviews? Chef! prices, Chef! empty seats, Chef...due to poor reviews and price... Time for a better chef!!! This place can't survive long like this.. 2 visits in 5 months off us, but putting us off trying again. Sad.. typical failing country pub but better managed and better chef, should be booming, successful... someone needs to get answers before it closes...
