Fantastic staff team, always a warm welcome, stunning views

Great food at a decent price. Recommended.

Just had another meal at this wonderful pub, the staff are really friendly as are the locals. I had the ribeye steak and it was cooked to perfection as was everything else we ordered. This was our second visit and we will definitely be coming back again and again, we even had treats for our dog set on our table when we arrived! This is a real gem of a pub, huge credit to the owners and staff, we love it here!

Not been for a while,disappointed to find the menu to be reduced,when we asked why we were told very abruptly by the waitress it was because they only had one chef with another training,so items had been removed, the other waitress was lovely though,the food was ok,chips were very well done,desserts good,but we will not rush back.

Had a meal and it was just ok. Some years ago the food was lovely and we returned quite a few times. Just a shame it still wasn’t at the same standard. Really nice setting, staff very friendly, we would return for a drink, but not for a meal.

Nice atmosphere. Busy. Friendly bar staff. Starter - tempura prawns- lovely. Big prawns nice salad yum. Different story to the main. Cheese and onion pie- all cheese no onion- very craggy. Chips were inedible. Greasy- no crunch - all stuck together in a lump. Main was served straight after starter with no time to relax between courses. Very disappointed.

Nice pub but with a limited bar and menu though they are both excellent, small and quite cozy, unfortunately for my liking dogs are allowed in and on this occasion some are not always quiet and well behaved.

Had no complaints up until Sunday had the Sunday lunch it was not as good as the previous Sunday it was fatty beef and did not look appealing at all the mash and carrots was sloppy was told this was down to the different chefs

We ordered the steak and ale pie, cheese pie and beef bouginon. The steak pie was not very warm, mushy pies hard crust and soggy, floppy chips that were inedible. The cheese pie also had soggy, floppy chips, and was mediocre. The bouginon was good, but beans and broccoli were covered with mash and to dig them out. Overall, food was poor, when I complained was told she would 'tell the kitchen', not an apology or anything to turn a discruntled customer around. Will not go back.

Lovely pub with a very welcoming host and good atmosphere. The food was tremendous, and the service was great . Drinks were excellent and all reasonably priced, too. We will definitely be back.

Arrived for dinner on a Tuesday with the family and three chose the Mouldy Chicken. The fish and chips looked amazing but my son wouldn't share lol. There is on-site parking and overflow on the road side.

Excellent lunch here, unplanned so not pre booked, very friendly greeting, great service, lovely real ale and very tasty food. Proper home cooked chips, always the acid test for me. Steak, stilton and caramelised onions baguette was delicious

I loved the intimacy and initial atmosphere of the Kettledrum. Unfortunately regulars shouting to the waiter across the pub was less pleasant. My starter of Blackpudding and Bacon was very tasty but the bacon part was little to not existent, considering the price of the starters. The biggest disappointment was the mains, I ordered Stilton chicken, which was Stilton sauce, chicken breast, mash and Greens. The whole main was served in a high sided plate, which is good as the meal was swimming I sauce. The sauce was so overwhelming that I couldn't find the mash. Me and my partner ate 30-40% of the mains before giving up. The waiter asked why we had finished before eating the majority of the meal, I made him aware that I believed the dish had far to much sauce and he took away the plates. He returned, to tell me that the chef said "That's how it's supposed to be served". I politely explained that food is open to opinion and on this occasion I think the meal would be better served with either less sauce, or the sauce on the side in a jug. Overall the food was very tasty, but not to the standards I think it should be at £15 for a breast of chicken, soggy mash and some veg.

The Atmosphere, Service, Food and Drink was top-drawer, been often and every time was memorable with friends and family.

Went out for dinner with a friend. Food was absolutely awful. When asked if we enjoyed it we said not really. The 2 men behind the bar became a little bit aggressive in their attitude and one said well we won’t be seeing you again then. No wonder it’s not doing to well. Perhaps a management or people course would benefit these 2. Or just move to a backstreet pub.

The Kettledrum was welcoming upon arrival. The food was of a standard all pubs should strive for. Cosy little place that’s an easy win if you’re in the area.

3 pub meals in 24 hours and another brilliant meal. Mouldy chicken for me. Garlic and herb chicken for the wife and fish and chips for my daughter. It was all fantastic and the chips are to die for. Ale was fantastic also. Staff were great also. A must go!

First time been there. Loved it! Food was delicious, very quick coming out. Table service fantastic. A lady named paula who works there was brilliant, very lovely and attentive. 100% be going back again. Bury black pudding to die for very delicious!

I 100% recommend it for everyone. Best roast beef ever! Delicious, crunchy veggies, soft melting-in-your-mouth beef. Definitely will come back and bring my friends next time!

Really like this place, it has great food great staff and feels like pubs used to be. Had the mushroom stroganoff it was the best I have tasted.

Fantastic find for a pub stopovers. Local pub food in a fantastic friendly atmosphere .food all home cooked with super care and attention .prices excellant (free parking overnight) and locals made you extremely welcome with conversation and banter . We were lucky enough to be there when they had a local singer/musician and free food supplied late on by the landlord .unfortunately as enticing as it was we were 'stuffed' following our meal Moors nearby along with Singing ring tree amongst other attractions Only problem was the mount lane road very steep hill and ' dog leg' that had my 50 year old camper struggling coming up towards Overtown...but The Kettledrum Inn rewarded her kindly

Outstanding food. The best I have had in Lancashire. Warm and welcoming pub with lovely views. We had fish and chips and steak and ale pie. Really generous portions and great service. We will definitely be returning.

Not coming ever again. Placed next to a table of pensioners who were blatantly loud with their homophobic conversation. Waitresses very unfriendly. Felt like we were a nuisance.

Steak and Ale pie to salty to eat . Lasagna hardly any meat inside full of chopped red peppers and hardly any cheese on top . Rib eye steak swimming in fat . Although the staff were friendly. Won’t be going back

Food isnt as good as it used to be and the service is ok till the end of the mains. I’ve been a few times recently and the staff aren’t interested after you’ve eaten your main course and it’s not even busy. Thought it was my imagination but it’s repeated each time. In fact they can’t wait to see the back of you and glare at you from the bar until you go. Not very friendly. No coffees offered. A couple of times dessert wasn’t offered either. Think I need to find a new venue to eat at.

Visited for Lunch today. The interior of the pub is dark and dismal. As we were being seated we asked if we could order some drinks - we were told only from the bar (no table service).... I ordered 'Steak and Ale Pie'. Condiments were brought to our table - a selection box of sachets and little packets of salt! The meal was eventually served. The pie was quite good but the chips were some of the worst I have ever had - soggy, soggy. When the waiter came to clear the table he only inquired whether we had finished (probably because of my uneaten plate of chips). I told him I was unhappy with my meal, he simply said "Sorry" and disappeared, never to be seen again. There was a very distinct lack of interest in us being there. As a consequence of this I will never visit again. Very, very disappointing.

As in another review the oil needed changing chips were brown and soggy inedible. Not a new problem always the same mum in law died in 2018 and we used to with her it was like it then. It's essential to change oil and reuse it less

Fantastic. Busted with girlfriends for a catch up and this was the perfect place. The pub was very quiet but this didn’t take anything away from the atmosphere. Attentive service and fantastic food - we will be back!

Fantastic Birthday meal last night. Great food with lovely service. Its a very special place plenty of space to drink and eat outside and very nice to sit inside. we sat inside and I had the Homemade Cheese pie and my partner had the Scampi both meals were absolutely delicious. Because it was my birthday we decided that we should have a dessert OMG AMAZING I had Chocolate Fudge cake and ice cream and Dave had the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Sauce and Ice cream. trust me if you want a delicious meal this is the place to go its special. thanks to the two ladies serving us last night you were wonderful see you again soon. Would of took photo of the meals however couldn't wait to enjoy it and photo would of been an empty plate.

We came here for tea one evening, based on Trip Advisor’s recommendation. We were not disappointed. The food was lovely and the staff were very friendly. I had a pulled pork sandwich and my husband and son had scampi. All tasted great and the Homemade chips finished it off! Will definitely return

Staff are really friendly and helpful. Food really nice. Well stocked bar. Wheelchair access is via the kitchen which staff help you with access. Would visit again

Myself and 3 friends ate here for a college reunion. Two of us were local and the other two were from out of town. The pub was quiet and we were looking forward to a nice meal and a natter. 2 of us ordered fish and chips, one ordered scampi and chips and the 4th had cheese and onion pie. The cheese and onion pie was very nice but the other 3 meals were disappointing. The batter on the fish and scampi was dark brown and so overcooked that we could not cut it with a knife without it flying off the plate so ended up picking it up with our fingers and biting through it. The fish inside was acceptable. The chips were soggy. We came to the conclusion that either the food had been cooked and then put back in the oil, or the oil needed changing. The waitress asked us if everything was ok and we gave her our opinions to which she replied ‘I’ll tell the chef’. When I got home I emailed the management via the pub website but, 6 weeks later have had no acknowledgment or response. It’s such a pity because the pub is owned by a local family and I would be sorry to see it fail. We lost the adjacent Nino’s Italian restaurant 3 years ago and it would be sad to lose this one because of poor reviews.

Called in at lunchtime and it was busy which is a good sign. Ate inside, the menu was good, the prices were very reasonable and the food excellent. It's also in a great location.

It's a pub. What more is there to say apart from there aren't many traditional boozers left. It's handy to use before going to watch the football.

Visited again today as we do every Thursday. Garry is now known by the staff as Mr. Lasagne as that's his favourite. The food is always spot on and service impeccable. Would highly recommend.

We have been to the Kettledrum several times and always enjoyed the atmosphere and food. However having rung to make a booking this evening, I waited for several minutes whilst the girl checked availability and was told that the pub was really busy. She then offered me a high table. I wasn't keen on eating at a high table and asked if there was availability for a low table at a later time in the evening. I was told again that the pub was really busy and that there was now a queue at the bar. The girl said she couldn't guarantee that we would have a low table later in the evening. She then asked if I wanted to book the high table. She said that she had to go now as the pub was busy and I could ring back if I wanted to book the high table. No thank you - I most certainly won'tbe ringing back to book. Whilst polite, customer service left a lot to be desired and you clearly do not need the business. It will be a long time before I ring to make arrangements to visit again!

Only been once wouldn't return thought it expensive for basic fish and chips and you have to pay extra for a jug of gravy .

They are friendly, a limited menu but on the whole good large party pre ordered food brought out quickly .

Gorgeous food if a little expensive

I haven't been inside the Kettledrum in years but went for an evening meal on the 12th with a couple of friends after our plans were disrupted. Still has that quaint, cosy feeling, and some of the locals had their (well behaved) dogs with them in the bar, which was nice to see. A proper local feel rather than a large chain, kiddie infested place. Table service was quick and pleasant. Some may find the menu selection small, but a good spread of options and everythng top notch and tasty for a fair price. I'd recommend booking as not a massive pub and food is not served late but well worth the trip.

We visited the Kettledrum 2 weeks ago and again today (a bank holiday). We ordered food on both occasions and the greeting, service and food quality was excellent. No improvement necessary. Enough said. Thank you. Visited again in September 2022 absolutely excellent all round.

Called the day before to reserve a table on Sunday with no issues. Great views in fine weather and a nice remote location. Entertainment outside looked popular but we just went for dinner inside. It is very dark inside the restaurant. Food tasted good everyone enjoyed but the dessert menu was very basic so we went elsewhere for one.

Super menu. Family visit. Attentive staff. My husband and brother in laws starters were superb so I was very excited for my main. My son and mother in laws ham eggs chips was nice looking. Chips were very greasy unfortunately. My husbands mushroom risotto was...

When I first moved back to England (from the US), I was taken on a first date to the Kettledrum (over 6 years ago). Then, last Sunday, my now husband took us back here for our Sunday evening meal and the food was absolutely amazing. The roast was sold out (hoping to try that this Sunday lunch) so we had steak and Guinness pie. The portion was absolutely massive. I didn’t want mushy peas and was given a delicious and abundant portion of veg (green beans, tender stem broccoli, swede and carrot, and mash) as an alternative. I’d come back over and over again for the chips alone; my husband and I felt they were like our parents’ chip pan chips but better. The wine was also great. Everything was reasonably priced especially given inflation and we have been to many meals that easily cost double the price of this meal and were only a fraction as good. I’d highly recommend this restaurant for food or even just a charming drink outside on a nice day, looking out to the countryside. The staff was warm, professional, and helpful too.

Booked in for a Friday evening. Car park at side of the pub but no spaces marked out and none reserved for disabled customers. When we left several cars were parked on the road outside and blocked view of any traffic approaching from the right. Large, well set out seated area outside with a number of sheltered areas with good views of the country side. Couple of steps at the entrance but no hand or grab rail to help with access. Ordered fish and chips and Mouldy Chicken. Bit disappointed that the specials menu we were given had only one starter and one mains option on it. Portions not the biggest but food was ok. Chips were tasty and it’s nice to get fresh rather than frozen. And despite not being the biggest portion the fish and chips were a lot cheaper than in other places I had recently visited. After mains both of us weren’t full but only four choices on dessert menu plus ice cream and nothing caught out fancy. There was nothing wrong with the meal or service but, then again, nothing to get excited about. Just an average meal and dining experience hence the three stars as nothing warranted the awarding of a higher rating.

Good local pub serving a good variety of beers and locally sourced food. Service was efficient and courteous. Well worth another visit.
