Indian Cottage is a pleasant takeaway option, although the food quality seems to have changed recently, possibly due to a new chef. That said, the dishes are still enjoyable, and the menu offers a good variety. Prices have gone up, making it one of the more expensive takeaways in the area, but as a long-time customer, it's a case of sticking with what you know and trust. 😊
Excellent! The ingredients used are good quality and you can definitely tell.
This is the BEST takeaway in consett. 100% recommend wouldn’t go anywhere else.
Absolutely disgusting. Called in for the first time after a night out. Never again. Even the taxi man said what is that smell!! Yes it was that bad. When arriving home the takeaway was opened and looked at it absolutely smelt horrible and had to be put in the bin. Definitely tried to get rid of the out of date chicken to the drunk people. But not this one thankfully!
Disappointed with my order. Regular chicken wrap these used to be huge but not quite small and the naan was dry as it was heated up in the microwave. Chips were barely cooked
Great food, great vibe, cool staff. I had the most amazing mushroom meatball hoagie—so indulgent, and completely vegan! The bread was so incredibly soft and fresh, the mushroom meatballs were moist and meaty and the perfect flavor (this coming from an omnivore who tries to eat plant-based when he can). Same goes for the eggplant sandwich, which had the most deliciously rich sunflower ricotta cheese. We also had some mini cherry muffins with vegan chocolate butter which were very tender and tasty, and the butter tasted like chocolate frosting—yum! We also had a vegan breakfast burrito I can’t remember the details of but was spicier than we thought it would be (definitely the weak spot of our lunch, but still decent). The fresh squeezed juice (ginger aid with ginger, beet, apple) was really great too.
Hardwick Hall Hotel Sedgefield, TS21 2EH, United Kingdom, England
Lovely location and spacious rooms with pretty views across the lake but overall I would say this is more like a 3 star hotel.
The rooms, although nicely decorated were not particularly clean..there was hair on the bathroom floors, the carpet was all frayed around the edges and grouting missing from the bathroom floor. Little touches that could easily be maintained. The breakfast was sub par. Cereals had expired, the pastries were hard and the fruit most probably came out of a tin. The staff were all very friendly, as most northers are but the service was slow and not very attentive. I think most wanted to go home.
Overall the hotel looked dated but it has potential. Hard mattresses too & no extra quilts for feeling a chill at night…again..it’s the small touches that count. We won’t stay here again…would rather a small boutique B&B.
Durham Market Place, Durham, DH1 3NJ, United Kingdom, England
Very well located in the historic heart of the city. So pleasant to wander around looking for quality food or unexpected objects. I go back every time I visit Durham.
We had a lovely quiet lunch on Good Friday at Uno Momento in Durham.
The restaurant was super quiet with only a couple of parties in, so service was very prompt. We opted for the tagliatelle carbonara and a pepperoni pizza. I'm under no illusions that it's authentic Italian carbonara, but truthfully, it's exactly what I wanted - loaded with cream and bacon and truly indulgent. My partner enjoyed his pepperoni pizza. The crust looked a little pale to me, but he had no complaints.
Prices were really reasonable. I wish we had room to squeeze in one of the delicious-sounding desserts, but we were so full.
My one complaint is that the soundtrack could have been a bit more Italian trattoria and less reggaetón club. It felt a bit bizarre and made the vibe a bit weird for me.
Bells Fish & Chips, Finchale Rd, Pity Me, Durham DH1 5RW, United Kingdom, England
My Mother, my Grandson and I visited Bells at Framwellgate on Tuesday 22nd April. We are regulars there and always enjoy our food. Unfortunately this time, the batter on the fish was under cooked and slimey and the fish was sloppy. We told a waitress about this and she arranged for another 2 full plates and for the fish to be replaced. The meal arrived for the second time but had gone from one extreme to another. The fish was so overcooked that the batter tasted burnt and the fish was so dry and had no taste. We didn't say anything about it this time as we were so hungry and didn't want to seem annoying. We ate the chips and the mushy peas. My Mother left her fish and I picked on at mine. If this was the first visit, we most certainly would not be going back. Usually the fish is so beautiful and sweet and the batter light and crispy. Anyone visiting for the first time would wonder how on earth they managed the 'Award'. I must say though, the waitresses were absolutely amazing and so nice. It was those ladies who made our experience palpable, so thank you.
