The best restaurants in County Durham North East

Excellent cod & chips, perfectly cooked, light crispy batter, generous portions, competitively priced, ideally situated in centre of town. A pity there is no room for a restaurant area inside only a couple of tables outside. Would highly recommend a visit.

Well we have been here loads of times and has always been good. Went today Fri 29th March 2024, Ok it’s Good Friday but you would think they would be prepared. After a bit of a wait watching people get served that came in after us, a waitress came over and took our order but there was only small fish and no large, well call me a conspiracy theorist but the small fish was half a large fish so where were they getting the small fish from 🤔. It was plain to see that it was all to do with money as the small fish was £7 something and the large was £12 odd… so along came our meals and it was ridiculous a bit of fish 4” x 6” and about 15 chips if that. Well I’m sorry but we won’t be back ever for the sake of making an extra few quid you’ve lost two regulars… plus gave the girl a £5 tip before we got the food and she didn’t even say thanks! Shame on you

A great find especially when also looking for a nice walk nearby. You don’t have to ride the train to use this station tea room. Large car park, dog friendly, check opening hours - car park closes at 2.30pm Lovely, friendly lady served us with very nice coffee and cheese toasties as we sat next to the log burner. Pasties and pies looked very nice and the cakes looked so yummy we couldn’t resist having some to takeaway ( it was delicious) We can thoroughly recommend and will definitely return

Partner and I ordered takeaway (for delivery) Food came within 30 mins and was all spot on but 2 cans of pop we had ordered were missing. Called back up and manager said he would send someone out right away with them. Came within 10 minutes and the delivery lady is also lovely!😊

Food ok, but service very slow. Sadly we went for food and they had ran out of rice. Who really wants to eat a Thai curry with chips. Improvements needed regrading service and the noise and swearing that can be heard in the restaurant from the bar. It was like been in a bar full of sailers. Maybe a door needs putting on from the bar to restaurant? Bar staff was very slow. Repeatedly asked for menus, took 20 minutes to take our order from getting menus, restaurant was quite so would understand a little if it was busy. Food come out in dribs and drabs. My main come out 5 minutes before my husbands. These few issues need addressing and it could become a little gold mine.

We absolutely LOVE this place. We moved here in summer and have been trying to find some local legends and we came across KYA pizza. We loved how they have an app to order on and we found the quality of food to be so impressive for the price. The toppings on the pizza are very generous which is what you want when ordering a takeaway (even the big chains such as Pizza Hut and papa johns don’t do this) the food was fresh and hot and we absolutely loved it from here. I can see how it’s so popular! We’ll definitely be ordering again

Staff are always very welcoming with a smile, and food is always tatsy and if you get the chance the hot beef is lovely, and portions are always big

We arrived at the accommodation to be greeted by a lovely welcome pack. We stayed in Raby and were impressed by the space and amenities. My brother in law was particularly fond of people watching from the living room window. A comfortable and very reasonable way to enjoy Barnard Castle and surrounding area. We also enjoyed having a drink in the bar downstairs. Very handily situated. Will definitely return and can highly recommend to anyone.

The best little cafe in Spennymoor. If you're looking for proper home cooked food this is your place. Staff are friendly and welcoming, their menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. Seating is available on two floors and there is a bathroom situated on the first floor. The cafe is clean and accessible for all users. You will always be pleasantly surprised when your meal arrives, the portion sizes are very generous and extremely delicious. Always our first choice for food.. we even have them deliver to us when we cant get down to the cafe. The same food delivered by their friendly driver. For ease of payments they do take good old cash, and card payments, and the delivery driver also has a card machine if you're like me and dont carry cash. Give them a shot you wont be disappointed

We use this takeaway at least twice a week.The portions are exactly right,not too much,the curry selections are,in our opinion,the tastiest in the area.The batter balls are perfect,the yung chow fried rice is excellent.would definitely recommend.

Popped in a here a couple of times after parkrun with eldest son staff always nice and friendly as he loves the sausage rolls. Great bread and cakes as well I love the rock buns.

I visited Spice Lounge Durham with my family, and from start to finish, everything was absolutely perfect. The food was amazing full of flavour, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, going above and beyond to make us feel special. They truly made our evening memorable, and we couldn't have asked for better service. I had seen a few negative reviews before visiting, but honestly, I wouldn’t worry about them at all our experience was exceptional, and I can’t praise the place enough. Highly recommend Spice Lounge Durham we’ll definitely be back!
