I have been a loyal customer of Pret since they opened in the 90s. I applauded their move to Veggie Pret that happened to align with my own switch to Veganism. I relied on them heavily when I got COVID. However, since then it has not been the same. Veggie Prets closed - and a real decline in any vegan food options across London, prices of simple salads soaring, patchy drink orders. It came to be that I only would come to Pret for a hot drink. I went to this Pret today, an old reliable to an empty shop, the lunch rush long over. I ordered a soya matcha latte, and walked away with it. I sat down, not touching the lid, and it split on me, revealing that the lid had not been applied properly, which in turn prompted me to lift the lid, as I felt it tasted odd - and found it to be warmish watery soya milk with a pinch of matcha powder in it - not a latte or a matcha in any sense of the word. This is now the end of my connection to Pret, somewhere that I was taken to as a child,. a place to get my breakfast coffee while at Uni, a pick-me up at work - if the quality is this bad, if simple service cannot be achieved at 4pm in an empty store, when can it be relied on to provide decent service? It's not what it once was, and this was the last straw.

Notes Moorgate This whole experience was almost like a training exercise in how not to treat paying customers. We were a group of four and I would have been happy to complain very much more at the time but it was awkward to at the time. The booking was very poor. Phone calls failed to get a table was told to book online. Did so but got no response so repeated it a day later. Email then came back and confirmed. But we needn’t have bothered. Our reception was casual as if we were unexpected. Casual point to a free table. No reservation sign but then very few customers. This should have set bells ringing. Waitress seemed irritated when we weren’t ready to order. Our order was incomplete and we had to ask for confirmation of her memory. Of the three starting plates one arrived at the very end as we were almost about to pay. Nachos had been prepared and left in cooker/ grill. This was the high point. Nachos were baked soft. Cheese melted into nothing. Bowl was so it burnt the hand of our friend. There had been no warning. He had to go and run cold water on it in the bathroom and came back and kept it moist with a serviette. Oil and bread came with toasted pieces. Toasted probably meant it was stale but who knows. The rest of the food was mediocre at best. Yes we ate it and we had a 60 minute slot before the concert. But timing was not something we needed to worry about - we had a prompt to say kitchen was closing soon. The wine was very acceptable- so not all bad but then that wasn’t made or ruined by the delivery. Never been to one of these coffee shops before and probably - No definitely- never coming to one again.
