I had the roast beef and smoked haddock rarebit starter it was very nice. Very friendly staff and posh ambience. It really was one of the best roast dinners. I’ve had in such a long time. Although the price was more expensive than other venues, it was absolutely delicious and I will return here in an instant.Ll

Really disappointed, expected a much better quality of food for the price. Especially after reading the glowing reviews. Everything tasted as if cooked from frozen and chips were like supermarket oven chips. Rice was dry and undercooked. Tzatziki and Chili Sauce were poor. Staff were very friendly but would not return or recommend.

This is a beautiful boutique cake shop in Old Welwyn, with the most delicious cupcakes, cakes, sandwiches and afternoon teas. It's run by an absolutely lovely local lady who makes the most amazing bakes! The shop is really pretty and quaint, with beautiful crockery and a lovely friendly vibe in the centre of Old Welwyn. The shop has a fantastic range of cakes and treats, including options for vegan, vegetarian and gluten free, which is brilliant. I often admire their celebration, birthday and wedding cakes online as well - they look amazing (maybe I need to get married again ;) ) Will definitely be back!

Came here with my mum for a special Birthday meal. The staff were absolutely fabulous - friendly, attentive, caring and knowledgable. They made my Mum feel special, which was lovely. We are from the lunch menu which was divine. Already booked to return in December. Thank you to all.

Booked afternoon tea at the Cowshed with family and friends for a special anniversary. The staff were brilliant but the afternoon tea was extremely disappointing and not good value for money. The teas were so weak that they were like dishwater. We asked for some more tea to be added to the pot full of water. The photographs on websites are deceptive. They give the impression that the cakes are a reasonable size but it was like a selection of petit fours. The savoury was described as salt baked beetroot tartlet with bloody Mary sauce. They were like tiny crostini that were dry with a few tiny bits of beetroot on. Certainly nothing like the size of other savouries in photographs. As other reviews have mentioned, the sandwiches were 3 small fingers. The scones were alright. We have had afternoon in other places and this doesn't compare. All in all a big disappointment and not good value for money.

I never knew the Waggoners existed until my friend suggested we visit for a celebration event. Driving along the B197 from Welwyn you go up the hill and there is a turning on your right to Ayot Green. This takes you over the A1(M) and immediately you are in the idyllic village of Ayot Green. There is a turning to your left and the Waggoners Pub is signposted. The area is quite tranquil but I could not get the constant drone of the motorway out of my head. For that reason I would suggest eating inside. There is a lunchtime menu where you can have two or three courses and the prices were fairly competitive for what you get. I did not realise that it was a french restaurant and was keen to try what was on offer. We had three courses and the food was excellent and we did not have long to wait between courses. For dessert I had the chocolate mousse which was GLORIOUS! I would definitely recommend it! The young lady who served us was very friendly, helpful and professional. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
