Lots of positives about our experience: very friendly staff, good welcome, easy to book, nice decor and ambience in the pub, and, once ordered, the food arrived promptly and was very tasty - lots of flavour. Just two negatives - the Sunday lunch menu is always a bit narrower in many pubs, but we felt it needed a couple of extra options, maybe just from the normal menu. More importantly, after being given menus and water for the table, our drinks and food orders were not taken for half an hour - one of our party had to ask the waiter to come over and take them. Other than this, a very enjoyable experience.

We had a company Christmas meal for twelve today. Everything was perfect. The food excellent, service quick but not hurried, fantastic friendly and helpful staff. Good wine list for those that drank and overall a wonderful experience. Planning to return for next Christmas but plan to visit well before then with friends and family.

Had the best night here lovely pub everyone so friendly and the staff are amazing can't do enough for you , Also the rooms are lovely to bed so comfortable everything you need little fridge with little snacks coffee and t and breakfast cereal and biscuits . Definitely stay here again so if you thinking of staying over in Cambridge you definitely want to book into The Kings Head .

Great food and great service. I must admit, I am in awe at how they manage all the orders in person and on the phone as people are constantly streaming into though the door and the phone constantly ringing. Not only that, but they're still happy to serve you and in no way disgruntled by the constant work (as I know I would be!) Hats off to the staff!

Ordered regular cappuccino's and were told that the servery had run out of cups !!! Consequently we received our drinks in half-full large cups - not very appeallling or satisfactory. Surely an upgrade or alternative might have been offered.? The amount requested at the till was incorrect - and it was necessary to point out that we had only one, not two scones. A previous visit was fine - but not this one - and no response to feedback sent directly.

Great village pub in a lovely setting. The menu was really good and you didn’t have to have a roast if you didn’t want to as there were other choices available . You could have roast beef , roast pork or roast turkey or a combination of all 3. Served with a Yorkshire , roast potatoes and a nice selection of vegetables . Plenty of gravy which is great as I hate having to ask for more. Lovely friendly staff and great service. Looking forward to my next visit .

Service was excellent, but the food was very overpriced for what you get. I am a bit disappointed as I was very looking forward to have a great experience and the food was very avaridge, nothing special. I could have spend that money elsewhere and enjoyed my dinner more. Overall wasn't a horrendous experience but I would not consider to return.

Having had an extremely poor stay and meal at another of the Chestnut Group pubs I was dismayed to find that my son had booked The Carpenter’s Arms for our family reunion. Sadly it lived down to my poor expectations. The dining area was really appealing but any praise ends there. The service was slow and patchy. Despite being asked to pre-order our meals the wait for food was inordinately long. The white wine was not properly chilled and having to add ice to a good glass of wine is not ideal. No apology. My main of “Pan roasted cod fillet, fondant potato, sweetcorn, fennel, lobster bisque” was barely lukewarm. The cod clearly wasn’t pan fried and the skin was soggy. The fondant potato wasn’t cooked through and the “lobster bisque” was a tasteless, unseasoned, liquid. The affogato for dessert should be vanilla ice cream topped with hot espresso. I was served a minute scoop of ice cream with a jug of stone cold, extremely bitter coffee. Just vile! Sadly this expensive, mediocre experience matched our previous experience at a Chestnut Group pub.
