We had our wedding reception here in Sept this year. I've had to think hard about what to write as I want to be fair. We chose the Missing sock as it is a bit alternative, it has a large outdoor space, on-site bedrooms and very fairly priced. We were happy with our initial interactions with the events organiser, but unfortunately the venue passed management/ownership multiple times. We went through 4 different event organisers. The communication was very poor, and there seemed to be little/No organisation. The day before the wedding the events organiser was out of the country and the person covering them knew nothing about our plan for the day. They tried to change us additional fees the day before the wedding, they had not kept a record of the payments we had made to them. They charged us a £200 fee for booking an external pizza van, despite the fact they had failed to book one themselves (we had been told months earlier that this had been taken care of). When we arrived to start setting up we had to get the tables out of the muddy field. The tables were in poor condition and they did not have table cloths as promised. The chairs had been in storage and were dirty and mismatched. The patio in the marquee was filthy and littered with cigarette butts. There were initials of a previous couple painted on the decking. Despite the stress of the above issues, on the day the staff worked hard, the home made BBQ and sides were delicious, and we had a lovely time. The bedroom we stayed in was comfy and clean. Having the teepees for guests to sleep in is a big plus. Its such a shame as they have a great space and so much potential but their lack of organisation, communication and care needs serious work.

Had an outdoors birthday party there. Was promised a refund for part of the money I paid up front, due to the fire pit not being used because of rain. Contacted the owner several times to get the refund - never got it. They ignored me.

I attended an event here and this review is purely my view on the place. Personally I see it as a very quirky and free spirited sort of place. It's not the sort of place I'd choose to hold an event. Not a place I'd like to stay at either. It wasn't child friendly and I found it very grubby and dirty. The lager on draft was pretty poor too. If you like strawberry fair then this may be for you.

As soon as we got sight of the missing sock i asked my husband to turn around as i didn't want to stay. The place looked liked it was closed down, and to honest i think it was as we seemed to be the only ones there. The place was uninviting. I can only describe our room as an outhouse, although it was clean it didn't feel it. The sheets and bedding were brown in colour, and i didn't want to sleep in them. The floors were tiled, which gave the room a cold feel, i felt like i was sleeping in a shed. The gentleman that greeted us was nice though and even offered to give us a lift to where we was going.

My new husband Rory and I got married at the missing sock on 22nd July. The day was just brilliant and all that we had hoped for. Chris and the staff were great and helped to create a relaxed and really fun atmosphere. The nature of the quirky venue, with the fire pit, karaoke bus and film room etc, allowed the guests to feel constantly entertained and made the wedding rather unusual which is exactly what we wanted! The food went down a storm (no thanks to a delay caused by our rather long speeches which they had to contend with!) and when planning all this the missing sock were so flexible and accommodating to all of our ideas and needs. I could go on further I am sure but needless to say we would highly recommend the missing sock and are pretty certain all our wedding guests would too! Thank you Clare and Rory

If you're looking for somewhere a bit out of the ordinary to hold your event, then try The Missing Sock. It is run by a team who are welcoming and whose aim is to provide the ideal experience for you. I attended a wedding in there in July and it was delightful. There are little areas outside that are brilliant for chatting in small groups and a fire pit, a dance marquee, and even a red London bus for karaoke! There is limited accommodation, but don't expect the usual hotel/B&B experience - the rooms are quirky and different, but completely part of the whole thing. Not to everyone's taste, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend The Missing Sock to anyone who wants something a little bit different.

Cambridge isn't all colleges and churches. There are many restaurants and bars in and around the city but there's a magic place outside its city boundaries. This isn't a restaurant or bar in the conventional sense, it's pretty much unique. It's called The Missing Sock and on it's own it's a good reason to head towards Cambridge. The outside has artwork worthy to hang on a wall rather than be exhibited on one. From the large car park you get your first look at some well known faces as well as words which describe the ethos of The Missing Sock.Inside there is the usual well stocked bar but that's where the similarity to other bars ends. There is a fairly large area without tables which is for dancing when there is a music evening or when you just feel like doing it.The interior is a mixture of a dining area and smaller spaces where you can sit and relax. The usual restaurant or bar habit of cramming in tables and chairs to make use of every inch of space doesn't happen here. There is enough room to be able to talk normally without intruding on other patrons conversations. The accommodation available carries on with this sense of privacy yet not isolated theme. There is a room which opens out onto the garden, which has a water feature as well as planted areas which look natural but are a result of carefully planned garden design. The Missing Sock is also a Caravan Club Certified Location with power hook ups, toilets and shower. There is something here for all ages from the bar to the delicious menu which makes use of what's available in each season, to the play area outside. It caters for those looking for a meal, those who are out for a drink, caravan and motorhome users and wedding or other celebratory functions. They also offer a great venue for company training sessions with a large comfortable room, catering and a large car park.As I said, there is something for everyone at The Missing Sock.

Unfortunately "Hugh" the owner has single handedly let himself and his business down. We received an experience voucher for Christmas and chose The Missing Sock (it's website read really well....). I should have known it would end badly after a struggle to actually get in contact with someone and book. After lots of chasing around I booked directly with Hugh, who tried to put me off having a raclette dining experience (that was the whole point of the voucher!) and tried to persuade me to just have a nice meal in their restaurant. Anyway, I said no, I'd like the raclette dining please. "Not a problem" he said "we have a wedding on but that's no problem". I also asked to book a camping site aswell to make the most of our trip as we were travelling 100 miles so would like to stay over. I asked if he needed payment for that up front, or our campervan Reg number, he said he didn't need anything, not even an approx time of us arriving or wanting to eat!!!! Well alarm bells should have rung....we arrived and interrupted a private wedding function and much to our embarrassment they had no booking for us and initially we were told we'd need to rebook! Hugh was nowhere to be seen.....in America. When i explained that we had travelled 100 miles and Hugh had actually made the booking, a lovely lady who I cannot praise enough (Adi) pulled out all the stops. Bearing in mind she had a wedding party in, she was amazing. She even took us upstairs to her private living space and sat us at a beautifully made up table on the roof top (yes!! That's right) whilst she prepared everything for us. She was incredible and I should imagine Hugh could learn alot (reading his responses on this site....always someone else to blame and a "misunderstood customer or one off incident".....). Reading The Missing Socks website he talks a good talk and seems to be off opening new ventures. Well perhaps that's the problem, multitasking! Concentrate on the business you have got and run it properly. It's a great space, with heaps of potential but if you can't get the service right when you are the one in charge, you've got big problems ahead. (And it's worth reviewing your COSSH procedures as leaving all the cleaning products in the toilet/shower room is dangerous.....not locked away or even out of a child's reach.....but on the floor!!) A massive thank you to Adi though, we are sorry this incident added to the pressure but you were incredible and we are forever grateful that a 200 round trip was not wasted.

I have passed this pub/restaurant several times over the years and wasn't quite sure what to expect. That's probably why I bypassed it for so long. It's an unusual place, a bit random or Quirky with the decor and the garden. We were there as a party of 10 ish, for a birthday celebration. Here it is guy's....get ready....it's essentially a restaurant serving Turkish food. Very nice Turkish food I might add. It's good to see the new website showing more of it's offerings. The beer I've read about as a bit dodgy so wasn't brave enough to try it on this occation. The wine was alright but the coffee was the worst I'd ever tasted, ever!If you have an opportunity to go don't hesitate you should at least try the food.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This venue was more than a restaurant to us, it held our wedding and wedding reception and was amazing from start to finish. From the outset everyone was friendly and helpful. We're not a big fan of weddings so it was important to us to include the bits we like in weddings and exclude the bits we didn't. The day was so special, yes there was a ceremony involved but it felt more like a party and as a number of our guests were children, including our own three year old, they had to be factored in too. The Missing Sock has a play area for the children, lots of space and a big steel framed marquee where we had our dancing area. There is also the great big red London bus with the karaoke on the top floor which was a big hit with kids and then later more with the adults. One of my favourite memories is watching my little boy pretending to drive the bus.We were very lucky with the weather which meant our ceremony in the garden under the pagoda was rain free and aside from dinner, most people spent all day outside. However, even had it rained there still would have been plenty of space for those outside and under cover and we just think more people would have danced, the good weather meant the DJ was a bit lonely at times. In terms of food for weddings it's best to approach the Missing Sock to discuss what they offer as what we chose is just a sample of what they can do. However, i'll review the food that we ourselves had.We decided on a platter option, which meant that a choice of dishes was available on the tables for our guest to help themselves to rather than having a buffet option. We had continental type starters such as cold meats, meatballs, pasta and salad. It was way more food than we expected. The highlight for us was the choice of mains though, we went for Babootie (a mince based South African dish, which i'd never had before until our taster), two different unusual curries and sausages and ribs, all served up with wedges and rice. We liked that the food itself would be talking point. It was delicious. The children had the option of nuggets and chips.Later in the evening, the Missing Sock even cooked home made pizzas in a pizza oven along with BBQ food which also went down really well.Everyone at the Missing Sock, including the volunteers were all incredibly hard working, they did not stop once. They all remained smiley and friendly.Another major factor in our decision to choose the Missing Sock was where the money they make goes, not into any fat cat pockets but into the Missing Kind charitable trust funding projects to help and be kind.My final comment is that our guests of all ages, even those who we thought might be put off by the quirkiness, loved the venue, the food and what it stood for.

When my fiance and I first started planning our wedding we knew we wanted something different from our special day, and that meant sourcing a venue that had the wow factor. We visited quite a few, all with the same reaction, it's nice, but it's notquite "us". We drove past TMS all the time thinking how funky it looked and we eventually popped in for a bite to eat, the food was ace, the staff even better, and the atmosphere just screamed "fun", so when we found out they did events, especially weddings, we were sold on the place immediately. During our first meeting Hugh was so laid back, he got us straight away and we loved the whole ethos of TMS and it's potential.Throughout the various discussions and tours, taster sessions and planning meetings we always felt that we were in control, we always had the feeling that provided TMS had the capability to deliver what we wanted then we could have it, the team really listened to us, were always there for a chat or to answer questions and really did not pressure us into anything wedidn't like or want. You see, unlike other venues there is nothing bland about the missing sock, far from it, it's a unique place, always something there to surprise you no matter how many times you have visited and there are so many quirky, fun and intimatespaces to discover both inside and out. Where else can you have your special day adorned with such eclectic activities and spaces...a disco, adjacent to a fire pit for when dusk comes calling, a karaoke bus bar, a child's playground, tucked away spaces for chilling out, a cinema room, pagoda...the list really does go on...and on...The day itself couldn't have gone better, each and every member of TMS made sure we didn't have to worry about a thing, we opted for a 2 course platter wedding breakfast which went down a treat with all of our guests, the Babootie reallyis to die for! As the day moved on and Hugh donned his hat we knew it was party time, and with the sun shining on a beautiful Saturday in June, with a mixture of bbq and pizza for the evening, along with toasted marshmallows by the fire, our guestsreally were overawed by the variety of TMS...needless to say we partied long into the early hours! All of the rooms were fantastic, set against a calm, beautiful countryside backdrop. All of our family and friends could not stop commenting that this was the most unique and fun wedding they had ever been to, our photographer's had never seen avenue like this, that is real testament to what TMS is all about, creating memories that will never be forgotten. A special thanks must go to Hugh, Simon and Sarah for giving us our dream day. We are really looking forward to going back to samplethe fantastic food and relive some happy memories with TMS team! Whether your stay is brief, or you are just dropping in for a bite to eat, or you're thinking of having a function or wedding here, we cannot recommend it highly enough!

I have been meaning to leave this review for a long time but hate typing! My wife and I had our wedding reception at The Missing Sock in July. It was fantastic. After much research and, many visits and lots of quotes from other venues we realised that they are all very expensive and pretty much identical in their blandness. Then we foung The Missing Sock online and paid them a visit. We had mixed feelings when we first arrived, the place was going through a bit of a transition and it was also the middle of winter. However, we met Hugh and Chris and were really impressed with their vision, flexibility and friendliness. Quotes were run up on a scrap of paper, things were added, taken away and forgotten. We loved it.It was so refreshing to not get a hard sell and get a pricelist as long as your arm with every napkin and flush of the toilet accounted for. We were given the impression from the first meet that nothing was off the board as long as we could either provide it, tell the guys where to get it or substitute it for something else. The time of the wedding quickly arrived and myself and some friends spent the morning at the venue. The party from the night before were still clearing away their decorations so we helped them sort everything out and they in turn gave us a hand for a bit. This is the type of place it is. We had bunting, photos, a disco, a band, karaoke and a lot more. It was all set up in a few hours.Chris was fantastic, he listened to what we wanted on the day and got things changed that we didn't deel suited our needs. The thing is with the Missing Sock is that you are expected to pitch in and help. Don't turn up half an hour beforehand and expect everthing to be done; it won't be. It wouldn't be your day otherwise would it?The bbq was excellent. Far and away better than we had expected and extremely reasonably priced. We didn't have any formal seating, you found a space and ate. It was delicious and relaxed and you didn't have to sit at a table with someone you barely knew for 3 hours. The playground was amazing for the kids, as well as the goats and chickens. The karaoke bus was very much utilised and when night fell the pizza oven delivered delicious food and then the firepit was lit. We had friends stay and camp as well as use the rooms available. I heard nothing but positive comments. We have set a benchmark with our wedding inspiring festival type parties and a generally more laid back way of going about things. Wasn't just an amzing day for us but for everyone.

When my fiancée and I were planning our wedding we were certain from the beginning that we wanted something a bit different from our reception venue. After much research we discovered The Missing Sock and were quickly swept away by the quirky character of the place. From our first meeting with Hugh and the rest of the gang we were delighted by how helpful, friendly and enthusiastic about our ideas they all were. The team were happy to facilitate whatever plans we had; even the more outlandish suggestions were met only with a brief pause before an excited suggestion on how we could achieve them. During the preparations as well as on the night they really took the pressure off us, rushing around to make sure everything ran smoothly. The venue itself is a bizarre combination of every unusual style you can imagine, this comes together to make an unforgettable, if slightly unorthodox event. The bar area is of a good size and carried most drinks that we wanted although Hugh was also happy to source some extra drinks that we requested beforehand. The dining room is a little small and so if you were considering a full sit down meal you would need to discuss with the staff whether they could facilitate this, not an issue for us however as we opted for a buffet style system which worked fairly smoothly and had our guests milling around and chatting for the whole event. The outdoor area is fantastic; there is a lower area which has space for a marquee, a fire pit and several laid back seating areas for people to relax. We used the marquee area for our band and ‘festival style’ food, the dance floor there was great fun although you may struggle a little with the cold in winter months if you aren’t prepared to dance your heart out. The food is very much in keeping with the style of the place with plenty of unique dishes from around the world, all were delicious and I don’t recommend leaving without trying their African babotie. The cuisine may not be to the taste of some people however most things can be prepared by the kitchen and we did have a few alternative options for those less adventurous. Were we to plan the night again we would have checked in advance with these few guests and ordered a la carte for them. They also put on pizza and falafels down at the marquee for us later in the night and these were promptly decimated by our guests to much approval. The result of all the different areas of The Sock is that it allows for a dozen different pockets of party; we loved this as it was easy for us to pop in and out of different groups of people, although it has to be said that the real party was and always will be at the fire pit. One of the other real strengths of the venue is as the party progresses one never knows quite what to expect upon turning the next corner, from the distribution of strange hats to the inebriated to pneumatic chairs sending people into the rafters, the next moment of bafflement is rarely far away.If you’re looking for a traditional by the numbers wedding reception then I would probably suggest that you continue your search, if however you’re looking for an exceptional party that guests will still be commenting on almost a year later then stop your search right now, you've found the place.

I booked over the phone more than 5 weeks ago & received a confirmation email from the Missing Sock at the start of last month. Our party of 8 were looking forward to my 40th birthday meal & I wanted to book a memorable meal to mark the occasion. We arrived on time to find an empty car park, no lights on in the venue and the Closed sign on the door. We knocked the door & looked through the windows, but clearly no one was there. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I just can't understand why the venue didn't contact me beforehand to explain that they could not fulfil my booking. I have asked the venue for a response and I am extremely interested to see what their explanation will be.Obviously neither myself nor any of my friends will be looking to dine here in the future and will certainly not recommend the Missing Sock to anyone in the future. Thanks for completely spoiling my 40th birthday!

The menu was a little S. African and a little Asian, but with the traditional nuggets and chips for the kids. We got the sharing platter which seemed small, but they said they would just top up whatever ran out, and they did. The Baabooti tasted pretty good.Quirky decoration and a chill out room for the kids with games TV, drums and guitars instruments was great.

I was looking for something out of the norm when I choose to visit this restaurant. I don't want to spoil the surprise for new visitors but defiantly worth visiting and one of the best dining experiences for a long time. The waiter who served us was brilliant and the owner even spared time to show us round even though they had a wedding whilst we were there and the food and service didn't suffer.Food was good but it was the experience, ambience and overall relaxed feel of this restaurant that made the evening for us.The owner and people that work here obviously have a genuine passion for what they do and have here. Can't wait to come back and get involved more!

Randomly found this place through a 3rd party website when looking for a stopover between North Lancashire and Kent. What a lucky find, we're currently looking for our ideal wedding venue and just wished this place was a bit nearer home :( Sadly food wasn't being served the night we were thwre, but we will definetly be stopping there again, and looking forward to tasting the menu. The staff (and manager) we came across were all lovely (and nd hillarious) exceptionally accommodating and friendly. Rooms were perfect and the fact we had our own outside door just made our day, since we werent forced to go to bed with the kids.Absolutly a must visit!

I went to a wedding reception at The Missing Sock. It is very interesting inside and certainly different from anyway that I've been to before. However the beer is simply undrinkable, it is clear that the staff do not know anything about beer. No-one who I saw try the bitter was able to drink it. My advice replace it! Oakham Ales make very nice beer, why not try them?Sadly I won't be returning until the beer situation is improved, which is a shame because it is a very nice place. Just let down by the beer.

We were at The Missing Sock for the first time, for a wedding reception. Having driven past many times I was very interested to see what the place is like. It's actually not like anywhere I have ever been to. The inside has a series of areas and rooms with their own styles where small groups can gather. Outside there is a marquee for music and an old double decker bus fitted out for karaoke on the top deck. Again there are lots of seating areas, many of them with a roof, so it's easy to find a nice place to sit. It is, a most agreeable place to spend an evening, with a nice pint of beer.Sadly, the nice pint of beer was not to be. The handpump was badged 'The Missing Sock', and the bartender told me it was actually Elgood's Cambridge Bitter. We ordered two pints and on tasting them realised straight away that it was undrinkable. We handed them back and the bartender did not seem in the least bit surprised. With no alternative we drank bottled beer from the fridge, as it would seem so did most of the guests. It seems very strange that a place so good in every other respect cannot provide a nice pint of beer. It's well worth a visit though, and I think we will go back sometime to have a meal.

We have been trying to get to the Missing Sock for a while but kept choosing times it was closed or fully booked! Anyhow after finally going there we had a great experience, the chef came out to ask us what alternatives we'd like on our platter & I got to eat kangaroo burgers. There was seeding going on but that didn't seem to cause any delay in our food, all staff were friendly & we will be coming back for that fantastic BBQ marinated meat! Thanks for a lovely experience :-)

The team at the Missing Sock worked hard to make our wedding reception special. From the welcome Pimms on arrival to the meal and barbeque later on, everything went seamlessly and we did not have to worry about a thing. The team were all welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was magical. We stayed overnight in one of the Shepherd Huts - the accommodation was warm, clean and very comfortable. All of our guests loved the karaoke bus, and many commented on how amazing the venue was.It was perfect - a night we will never forget, and could not have gone any better! A big thank you to Hugh and all of the team for making our special day even more special. We will definitely be back in the near future!

We wanted the festival vibe for our wedding and that's what we got at the Missing Sock. Bucketloads of it. Their bbq buffet was quote 'an abundance of fresh tasty food'. Band under the gazebo, karaoke bus (an unexpected hit with family late into the evening), tent for dj, firepit and marshmallows, childrens play area, more amazing food - pulled pork and pizza oven - and camping! Lots of us stayed. Brides slept in one of their gorgeous shepherds huts. Got up to chickens and cooked breakfast in the sunroom. The staff were incredible all day and we all got on like family. Special mention to Hugh for all your efforts and accommodations. You made our wedding a celebration full of inspiring memories.

What a delightful and quirky place. This was my stepson's wedding, and truly brilliant. The food was fantastic, a delicious world menu, also including fabulous chips, sausages, burgers and super hand made pizza from a wood fired oven. The venue is kind of zoned having well planned and artistically enhanced varied areas, inside and out. The staff were absolutely first class. Honestly, absolutely excellent service. Nothing was too much trouble. The warm friendly proprietor, always exuding a calm cool pervading everything, was extremely approachable, and ever on hand.Near Cambridge, yet set in the best of Fen countryside with a big car park, small campsite, overnight residential accommodation, and lovely views. Some of the party stayed the night and commented very favourably.Missing a Sock? Find it here. Missing some joie de vivre, find that too.

We held our daughters wedding reception here in August and it was a wonderful location with an amazing atmosphere. From the outset Hughs aim was to make the day really special and accommodated all our requests without hesitation, even to the point of re-designing the room to a new layout! He was always quick to respond to our questions and offer advice when needed. The service was outstanding and food good and plentiful. In the evening there was something for everyone with the karaoke bus, the marquee with disco, and the reception room for those looking for a quiet space. The evening barbeque was cooked in the marquee with freshly baked pizza straight from the pizza oven in the marquee. The fire-pit was lit and marshmallows duly toasted!Overall, a truly quirky and unique venue for those looking for something special.

Very rude and unorganised wait staff - they didn't even know what food was supposed to be on their menu! One of them put meat in the vegetarians food even after being told they were vegetarian. He made absolutely no effort to apologise. Also, when asked where the vegetarian options were he said that they could just eat the vegetables even though they had been notified on booking and had offered to make a vegetarian option. One was given after nearly everyone else had finished their meal. They were really in attentive. The food was tasty and the decorations were good but it was over all quite disappointing.

We had our wedding reception at the Missing Sock and couldn't have asked for a better day, it was beyond what we ever imagined. Hugh and the team went out of their way to help us with every aspect and worked tirelessly to make our day so special. The food was amazing, part of the reason we picked tMS was because we didn't want the usual wedding food, and their ethnic menu suited us perfectly and was very VERY reasonably priced for the quality. Our guest couldn't stop raving about how unique the venue was, there are so many different areas, you can chill out and chat, have a good boogie and there is an area for every age. We didn't have kids at our wedding but if you do there is a great play area and a movie room to keep them entertained. We can't recommend tMS highly enough, if you want a unique, quirky, exciting wedding then this is the right place, and it doesn't cost ridiculous amounts, they are not in it for profit, they are a charitable venture and the least pushy salespeople you'll ever find in the wedding industry. Go and have a chat to them, you won't regret it!

There's even a Greg Rutherford lookey-likey among them (much to his denial!).This Cambridgeshire wedding venue embodies the character of Hugh, whose laid-back and inviting nature put us right at ease from the very beginning - 'anything's possible here' he said - 'We try to make whatever you have in mind come to life.' When we were hunting for a wedding reception venue, we knew it needed to;Be a little differentNot charge a premium just for the word 'wedding'Be relaxed and quirkyHave a great ethosWe didn't think we'd find our venue quickly or easily, or upon a first google... but we did! After visiting the place for a lunch to check it out, we knew it was the place for us.Our wedding took place on 21st June 2014, and knowing we wanted a Saturday date in June, we booked this over a year in advance. Thankfully - Hugh told us lots of people had asked about that date!We kept things fun, relaxed and simple with canapes and glasses of sangria (at Hugh's suggestion) on arrival, followed by bottles of wine on the tables along with sharing platters (kangaroo burgers, ribs, wings, chips *, babooti, veg thai green curry, rice, salad). The karaoke bus - something we weren't initially fussed about using but which came as part of our package - proved very popular with our more vocally talented guests and in hindsight it was a great extra option to have, and the fire pit provided great evening entertainment with marshmallow sticks. We hired the chill out room and brought along a games console and 'Guitar Hero', which proved very popular too! We skipped having a DJ or band, and instead brought along a 'meal' playlist on a memory stick and a Spotify playlist for the post-meal rock-out, which worked exceedingly well. The 'childrens' play area proved just as popular with some of the older guests (swings, climbing tyres and a space hopper), and our photographer had a blast taking quirky photos of this brilliantly odd, silly, fun place. Having cones of chips and sausages in the evening rounded things off nicely, and our guests were well fed. There was a brief technical hitch with the outside speakers but this was resolved very quickly - it was just a shame that it happened as we were attempting to have Dad and Daughter rock-out for the second dance, but Hugh and the team were quick to set things right. We booked the outside marquee, just in case the rain came down, but the weather was so brilliant we didn't need to worry - lets face it though, you can't book the weather and a wet option is a must!If you like pristine manicured lawns, silver service and a grand hotel style, this is not the place for you. But, if you want to have a blast, feel like you're at home (my Mum went without her shoes for most of the day!) and relaxed, and love a little organised randomness and chaos, this place is perfect.I can't speak highly enough of all the team - and a number of our wedding guests enthused to each other (and not to me just to be polite) that it was the best wedding reception they'd been to.My family stayed here in the accommodation too, which was immaculately clean, and they felt very welcomed and part of the team - the resident dog got lots of fusses, and my brilliant but rather conservative Gran was so chilled out that Hugh managed to convince her to give the Shisha pipe a go!* as any bride will tell you, giving up certain foods to fit into your dress is hard. When I was asked what I wanted on the wedding day, chips was top of the list! This was a hugely special day, made so very special by Hugh and the team. Thank you, all of you.

We held our wedding reception here 02/05/14, and right from booking we were made to feel special. Hugh and the whole team made our day a dream, very helpful, and accommodating. The food was out of this world we chose sharing platters and there was more than enough for all. We had two very fussy eaters who were aware of our food choices and the staff went out of their way to offer alternatives. The quality of the food was exceptional and the portion size I would say was large, with an excellent variety to the platter including kangaroo burgers, green curry, babootie, ribs, skewers, rices, salads, breads and fries. Our aim was for everyone to have a fun time and all our guests have complimented our choice of venue as there is something for everyone whether you want to dance, sing along to the karaoke, sit round the fire pit toasting marshmallows, enjoy the many features of the garden, or take your shoes off and put your feet up, there is even a play area for the little ones.

Plenty of room for my grandson's pram children of all ages welcome. But what really made it for my daughter was the birthday hat and chair which was absolutely brill and topped it off nicely .It was hilarious and lovely part of her celebration her little face was a picture .Well done to Sarah for finding place and massive thanks to lovely staff .The chap with the Tommy Cooper hat was very laid back and chilled will definitely return in the summer. Thanks again

We hadn't wanted a country hotel reception as we find them beautiful but lacking in atmosphere. If you want precision and perfection and love those hotels, this place is probably not for you. At the Sock you get instead the friendliest staff who do their utmost to make sure you have a good time. They were so flexible when we were planning what we wanted. On the day the food was plentiful and delicious. Guests have since said repeatedly that they had a great day and are envious that we live so close. The children who came loved being able to toast marshmallows and have pizzas made for them in the evening. The adults mostly loved the bongos, clogs and kangaroo burgers! It's the most fun and relaxed place and we will be going there for dinner regularly.

Huge thanks to "The missing Sock" for hosting our December wedding and making a wonderful day for us to share with our families and friends, for allowing us so much freedom took all the stress away from the planning. A fantastic quirky place which my family continue to rave about, it was so much us, We looked long and hard for somewhere relaxed and fairly priced, we were just not inspired to hold a reception until we found the missing sock.Modest on the front but full of fun and creativity within. Thanks so much to these guys for their original food, entertainment and sharing what they called 'second home'. Our only downside was the marquee, despite heaters it was a cold December night to stand around and we had to move the quartet indoors. We had been warned but our dream of our first dance was fulfilled. This was more than made up for with the bus, the two fire pits and an indoor hookha tent. Brilliant and so much fun for all the ages. A fantastic day and we both have only praise for these guys, added to buy their ethics and purposeM & A

I would personally avoid this place. We all paid fifteen pounds each for platters that supposedly were going to keep coming until everybody had sufficient, which did not happen. We were asked would we like a meat package, but it never did arrive for many of us, so some of us split what did arrive. I paid for the bus which was going to be cleaned and heated prior to us going there for kareoke. But it was filthy and cold. One hundred pounds for two hours and then at midnight, without warning the proprieter came and pulled the plug on the kareoke machine. Waited forty years for something special, so both thumbs down to this venue.

The drinks were overpriced and extorionate we were charged £13 for a double shot of brandy - which was "daylight robbery" To make matters worse his was rolliing cigrettes at the table before saying he was going to smoke when we wanted to settle the bill. Just returned from a wedding reception. This venue is special if you want a place that embraces the ethos of its customers having fun. No formality, but canapes all over the place, no sit down meal, but a superb BBQ that included such meat as kangaroo. Staff are so relaxed that it was hard a lot of the time to discern them from the guests. Great touch for the staff to walk around with a camera, and then post pictures on big screens all over the place, in the garden, the bar and the main hall. As the evening wore on, more canapés, and even a fire pit to cook marshmallows. Bar area is a hoot, that led to a bunch of mid 40 year olds, playing the bongos, vuvuzelas, accordion, piano, while wearing the array of fancy hats hanging in the porch. This is a very hands on venue, the staff want you to interact, not just sit back. If you don't consider this venue, as to be honest it looks a bit ordinary from the front, you are missing a trick. Get inside and start chatting to whoever's behind the bar, you will be hooked. Congratulations Missing Sock, great idea, ethos, food, but most of all staff. ABSOLUTE WINNER

You'll never feel rushed and can plan to spent the whole evening their. Stopped here for lunch on a cold Thursday, We were the only customers but still received good service and very tasty food. Definitely planning on going backonly an average mark for atmosphere due to being the only customers, I imagine its much better with more people

From the road you'd be forgiven for questioning whether it's an eatery or something other, and whether it is open or not? Before you even enter the pub, the impression you get is, 'this is a bit odd', but as you enter, there is a feeling of 'this is a fun place to be'. The restaurant area is a light and recently refurbished room. We joined our party on a Sunday for a celebration and sat on a long wavy table up against the window, which proved very impractical to get up and out of to go and get drinks, food etc. But in all fairness it was very busy. As we patiently queued for the buffet style lunch, it became clear that the starters, mains and puds seemed to flow in the opposite direction to our queue, so I skipped the starter and just had a rather small main, which was so so. The puds were unfortunately stale having been left out in the open for some time.Out doors there is a curious garden area with a rather eclectic collection of items to feast your eyes upon, including resident goats and chickens. Their children's play area is also a fun place to trigger little imaginations. Inside, there is a little nook with mood lighting, bean bags and comfy sofas where you and your little ones can chill and watch cartoons projected onto a white screen. Their quirky attention to detail even stretches to the WCs, in particular the wash basins! In summary, if you like traditional, it may not be your cup of tea. This is somewhere where English eccentricity meets free spirit, quirkiness and home made fun!

We were looking for a nice place to have brunch and came across this on the web.Read the reviews and website and were struck by the fact it promised not to offer the usual bland Standard British Fare and Attitude..=*^)We called to make a reservation, spoke with Chris whose friendly quirky, fun response (he sounded like a favorite uncle/brother - see below) re-inforced the impression we already had - this would be a place we could be very comfortable in.We were *not* disappointed - from the moment we arrived and saw the outside of the main building we felt instantly at home. The eclectic treatment to the building facade with a mural, to the entrance door - we thought - "this is it - finally after 3+ years in this area we've found our missing sock."A GEM indeed, the perfect place for a romantic dinner for two - a party out with friends - a family re-union complete with the kids - a corporate dinner - it works beautifully for all. When we visited, the main dining room with lovely light and a view onto the garden and the funky double decker was reserved for a family reunion dinner but Chris dragged Jess over to the nice head of the family, introduced her as "my sister from Lapland" and asked if she and her husband could join, and after a friendly, "of course" found a spare table, made sure I got hold of one end and together we transported it into a corner spot in the main room and then he told us to get cracking with the drinks and food - self serve of course as it was a buffet style brunch. We did, stuffed ourselves, had a lively fun conversation with Chris popping up and making "interesting" comments often - he ending up when things had calmed down, joining us and having a nice conversation, getting acquainted, exchanging emails and promise of getting together outside of the Sock..=*^)Truly, we had a great time, this is not just a pub and a restaurant - it is run and staffed by people who have a serious commitment to the community and we offered *our* services - couldn't do less. Chris (and Hugh) were run off their feet off but always had time for a comment (which usually hit the mark) and we were smiling pretty much all the time.At the end of the meal Jess offered her services and was promptly whisked away for a short stint as a barista (her coffee was superb by the way)..=*^)We promised Chris we will - despite the distance (we do not live in Cambridge) - come bothering him (and the rest of the crew) as often as we can manage with Jess' schedule. The brunch ended with hugs and kisses as would any family get-together..=*^) All in all - an experience you should not miss!CR

Me and my partner got given a "gift experience" voucher, entitling us to a meal for two in a nearby restaurant. There was only one in our area (The Missing Sock) and we had never heard of it, but thought we should definitely check it out. After researching online we realised it was a bit quirky and weren't too sure what to expect but went for it anyway. Our main reactions were "Wow!" The Missing Sock is unlike anything you have ever visited before and caters for everyone in it's own very unique way. The place oozes character and is impossible to categorise. The magic of it is, it is what you make it. It can be a restaurant serving impeccably cooked food sampling from many different world cuisines. It can be a chilled-out coffee lounge, with your feet up watching the telly. It can be a stylish bar enjoying a very extensive range of spirits and cocktails and draught that you've most likely never heard of but will love, or it can be all of those at once. It really is a place to suit everyone and the staff make you feel so very welcome, I could have easily stayed there playing cards and drinking the night away after our meal. The main thing that strikes you about this place is the thought that has been put into it, it's an ideal venue for most occasions as they have made sure they cater for everyone in a laid-back and inoffensive way. Everything from the decor to the staff oozes interest and the staff seem to bend-over-backwards to cater for your needs. When we turned up we got met by the chef and bar maid. The chef simply asked what kind of food we like, what we don't like and offered us a few suggestions of what to have, we left it in his hands and that was an excellent decision as we sat by the fire and got spoilt rotten with platters piled high with BBQ ribs, chicken wings, kangaroo burgers, tortillas, pate, olives, thai curries and much more, all of which was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection by a clearly very experienced chef. We took a wander around the place and were amazed by how ...fun... it was. The place was full of tv's, games, artwork, quotations, all done tastefully in a non-gimmicky way. The garden again is simply indescribable, probably one of the most picturesque and interesting gardens I have ever seen in a pub/restaurant/bar,(the pictures on this site do it no justice!) you could spend the afternoon simply walking around discovering different areas of it, with a beautifully lit up and decorated pond, a bus which had been converted to a bar/pizza-oven, a faux-ruins of a church, a kids play ground, calling it a beer garden would be disrespectful to it but I am already looking forward to drinking away the days in that garden in the summer. One of the amazing little facts about this place is that it is non-profit. After our meal the chef came out to chat to us and told us about the great work that The Missing Sock does. Any profit they make, goes back into the local community. The staff work and live in that place just to provide for the local area. They support and donate to the homeless, inviting them in to feed them, put on charity events and seem to always be donating or assisting the community. All without even seeking recognition as I never saw a mention of this anywhere online, which I thought was amazing!I could go on and on about this place after being thoroughly won over by it and definitely recommend it to anyone. Amongst a growing trend of bland, characterless dining and drinking, this place is a hidden gem and I couldn't see how anyone could have a negative experience!

My partner and I have driven by this place numerous times and always thought it looked interesting. We finally went in done day and were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant is fantastic and the staff were very warm and welcoming. We weren't too familiar with the food on the menu but thought we'd be adventurous. The food was great and we tried things that we have never eaten before. We will definitely be making a trip back here.

My two daughters booked Sunday lunch for the family on November 25 as a surprise birthday present for me. We all had a wonderful time in this relaxed and quirky place. The children loved it and felt very free both inside and out. The two elder grandchildren also loved going round with a watercan and bowl to wash guests hands before the meal! The food was extremely good and catered for all ages, tastes and dietary needs. Thank you everyone at the Missing Sock for making it such a memorable occasion.

We had our wedding reception here in August and could not have found a better place for us! When starting planning just 2 months before we’d agreed we wanted a decidedly chilled affair with people just being able to enjoy in their own way and without the price tag being doubled (or more) at the mention of the word wedding! When I found the Sock’s website I thought it looked like an amazing place but have to admit was still slightly debating options on cost/practicalities/location. I showed it to my fiancé and he was bowled over and from the moment we walked in to have a look around there was no question that we’d be having our wedding reception there! We could not have asked for more from the guys at The Missing Sock. When we went in to look round and talk about booking when they discovered we’d not eaten there yet they brought out tasters of each of their main/signature dishes which we ended up having all of on the day as we couldn’t decide! With mention that any alternative/kids requirements would be catered for as needed. We paid a deposit when booking but didn’t have to pay the rest till the day. There was no hire cost for the function room just minimum food spend requirement; fair enough being a weekend and this wasn’t a problem given our numbers. We booked all 3 of their newly installed rooms (at the point of booking not quite finished) and had the advantage of knowing that friends could also camp over if they wanted (which some did) and that as long as they knew numbers they’d sort breakfast the following day. We agreed use of the outdoor stage for the band, the karaoke bus, pizza oven for supper and the fire pit; the full Sock experience all of which made our evening.Friends went to decorate the function room for us in the morning so we arrived post wedding ceremony to find all done and the that staff could not have been more helpful. The agreed arrival nibbles were so amazing several people thought that they’d laid the buffet meal out early! Staff were easily available during the evening and nothing was too much bother; happy to flex food times round things not running exactly to our (rather rough) plan and even catering for an unexpected dietary requirement without question. Kids old and young enjoyed the grounds including playground complete with speedboat, pirate ship and swings; all of which feature in our wedding album and the goats and chickens also provided entertainment. The rooms were amazing, if we weren’t so local I’d be tempted to stay more often. Ours had a kitchenette which we didn’t really use but which would be really useful for a longer stay. With agreement we’d left some of the decorations in the function room to sort the following morning, but when we came in for breakfast we discovered they’d not only tidied up for us but used some of them to decorate our breakfast table; a really lovely touch. The atmosphere at The Sock was just what we wanted from start to finish. We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending to anyone who wanted for a similar event; which in fact I have done twice already!

The first thing I can say is that this is for people who do not take themselves seriously. Its a fun place, and the more you let go the more you will get out of it. The staff are nuts - and great. Its all rather surreal! Food wise it is very very interesting and diverse - we had the African platter and the meat platter - this consisted of several south African dishes like babootie (If that's how its spelt) and for the meat dish, Kangaroo, beef, ribs, with a lot of sides. Fantastic food! The décor of the place is fascinating - we were in the 'posh' room which was kitted out as a sitting room with lounge suite, TV, guitar, piano etc. Got to see it to believe it. We are planning our next visit already because unfortunately we live in London and can't get to Cambridge as often as we like to.

TMS was the first stop on our fortnight's honeymoon road trip. We stayed for two nights and could quite happily have stayed for the whole two weeks. The staff could not do enough to make you feel more welcome and help you with your stay. The atmosphere is totally relaxed and you are actively encouraged to make it your second home. Great facilities at a very affordable price. We couldn't recommend it highly enough.Debs and Mike.
