The best restaurants in Holt North Norfolk East of England

This is the 4th time we have dined at Meadowsweet since it opened in 2020. We have loved every visit and we agree with other reviewers that it is getting better and better. From start to finish the experience is outstanding. A relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, impeccable friendly service, beautiful and delicious food with courses that change regularly - yesterday there were two courses that were new this week, including the most incredible trio of strawberry dessert - and a good wine list that covers a range of prices (i.e. not all super pricey). It seems clear that this is run by people who are at the top of their game and love what they do, and that makes it easy to love it too. I had a smile on my face all evening! I am coeliac and felt catered for just as well as my non-coeliac husband. Their home made bread, both normal and gluten free, is some of the best bread we have ever eaten! It’s a 2hr journey for us so we always do their dine and stay option - rooms are comfy and well appointed with nice touches of luxury, and we feel it’s well worth it for an amazing night away. This is in my top 2 Michelin star restaurants in the UK: I cannot recommend it enough.

Completely agree with all the other reviews. A unique place. If only other catering at outdoor destinations was this good. Lovely service too.

Live in Holt but never visited this establishment before. Very welcoming, delicious coffee and dog friendly with a dog biscuit for each of our 3 dogs. Will definitely be returning.

Arrived in Holt on a Sunday and needed something quick and easy after a long drive. This place does really good pizza. It was delicious.

If you could get 6* out of 5, this would be it. Fantastic food. Amazing service. Great wine. Unhurried good in the best atmosphere you can hope for. It’s unfathomable to me that it’s taken this long to find this unbelievable place. Go there. But make sure you leave a table for us as we will be back.

Lovely coffee and fabulous range of cakes! Nice and cosy, and great relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They had a massive range of different sponge cakes which all riffed on the classic Victoria; I chose peach and mango which was delicious. So delicious that I forgot to take a picture until quite a lot had been eaten! A basic sponge is easy to do badly - this was spot on!

Update! Haley has contacted me, apologised profusely and refunded my £12.00. Things sometimes do go wrong - its what you do about it that matters! Thanks again Got charged £12 for a pint.! Sent this email… no response.. Hi I have just noticed that I was charged £12 for a pint of beer on Friday 7th Feb 2025. I was on my own, and there were only 2 other people in the pub. I guess your cctv can show that. I assume the cost would have been shown on screen before it was presented to the card machine - so I’m not sure why the payment was continued by the barman. I wasn’t showed the terminal prior to tapping my card - or I would have noticed the amount. I await your comments..

We found this place after a long car journey and with three hungry kids in tow. Despite it being close to 3pm when they stopped serving hot food, we were seated quickly and managed to feed everyone. Great sandwiches, and game chips were amazing. Really friendly service, a real gem that we're so glad to have discovered. Will definitely be back!

We'd been a week previously and couldn't resist returning. The 'Full Nelson' breakfast was enormous and delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful.

This is not called il Caprese anymore - Michael’s Bistro as it is now called, was lovely for starters but the main courses were disappointing - it’s a shame’s especially the ramen which was without chili

Lunch was absolutely delicious and all cooked to order and our fish was full of flavour with a light tasty batter. The team here are all very friendly as is the Owner. Had not been for a while and will certainly return again. Thank you

A wonderful grocery cum deli cum greengrocer cum wine merchant. We always stop here if passing through or staying nearby. It’s an alladins cave of tasty treats and delicious stuff. The baked goods are excellent and the cakes usually very good….todays ginger and pear cake was exceptional.

Cute little place quite snug. Service is friendly but Eggs Benedict came with dried out muffin you could not fit into murdered bacon and poached eggs where rather well done, hollandaise is Alfredo straight out of the bottle. All in all a very disappointing breakfast

Fabulous coffee, selected and made with passion and expertise. He knows his stuff and produces excellent coffees both espresso and filter based, including pour over, which is rare! The coffees are very interesting and not your run of the mill beans; some are a really new experience! Always busy despite being a really tiny place - visit if you can!
