Poor service, staff didn’t seem to know how to help customers. They had little to no choice on the menu, soup of the day was taken off despite being in the menu. Had to wait 20 mins for a can of cola for my diabetic mother. When the tea finally arrived we were able to pour it into cracked and dirty cups. Would not recommend this place under this new management. Previously came here earlier in the year with the old management back when the place ran smoothly. This new management has no care for the customers and seemed entirely over their head with the 5 customers it had.

Arrived early, took 45 mins to get a pot of tea which was included in the afternoon tea I pre booked 4 days ago had to go get the can of coke ourselves to have a drink. To arrive at table to find all tea cups had stains and tea pot when finally given to us had a broken spout - UNSAFE!! Ran out of items, afternoon tea was dismissal took over an hour to arrive. We have been here 4 times before, and loved it hence why we booked again but will not be returning. So disappointed

Visited about 6 weeks ago after not visiting for months due to new owners not providing a very good facility in terms of quality and service. Previous owners provided a superb high quality tearoom which we visited weekly for at least 3 years. Visit 6 weeks ago seemed to be improving but after today’s visit - never again. New menu awful. Food quality awful - crab salad for £19.95 a disgrace consisting of the smallest of crabs on a few lettuce leaves !!!! My wife had a quiche - no choice and burnt again with a few lettuce leaves. We always had cake but looking at the miserable ones on offer in the cabinet. No way. We paid and left never to return Future visitors beware of this awful venue which used to be so good .

We remember the Folly of old and were sad that it closed. Delighted that it was open again, so came for lunch. Disappointed with the result. The cheese and pickle sandwich was fresh and tasty, but the additional crisps and salad were minimal for £7.95. The, so called Panini, was a misnomer being two slices of white bread. This, for £10.95 was an insult. We are not in the habit of complaining, especially in public, but quietly we suggest you attend to this report, before many others have our opinion, that it was a folly to revisit The Folly.

In the pre-covid days lunch or afternoon tea at the Folly was one of the high points of our regular visits to Holt. It is so sad to see how far it has now declined under its new management, and our visit on last Saturday will sadly be our last. The two young waitresses who covered our table were friendly and well-meaning, but clueless, no doubt through a lack of training. The menus were on cheap food-stained A4 photocopies, and the previous stunning choice of teas with well-informed descriptions had vanished. My soup was accompanied by an inedible slice of brittle dried-out sour dough toast; my cheese and bacon panini had been reduced to a greasy mush by melted fat from the cheap cheese it contained, and was accompanied by a side-salad consisting of a few bits of yellowing iceberg lettuce with some cheap crisps scattered around miniscule bits of cucumber and tomato. My wife received an unbelievably small portion of cheese and (allegedly) onion quiche garnished with cheap tasteless coleslaw. My request for a jug of hot water to replenish my pot of tea was met with blank incomprehension; finally, after an explanation on my part, a small milk-jug half-full of tepid water appeared. Cost approximately £30.00.

This is a review of the Folly Tea Room recently acquired by the owner of the Snug. Sadly after 3 visits to The Folly, the new owner is clearly trying hard to mirror the previous owners but is failing badly. The ambiance remains as do the friendly staff but the food is no match for its previous owners. We had Soup which was ok but came with stale Sourbread so hard we couldn’t eat it - and no choice either of granary or white., quiche which was small and neither hot nor cold - lukewarm, and sausage roll which was the worst we have ever had in Norfolk. Salad and crisps accompanied the Sausage roll and quiche but unlike the previous owners where the crisps were served in a separate cup to keep them fresh, they were put next the oily salad and were soft as butter by the time they arrived. Previously we always took Cake away to eat at home but not this time looking at what was on offer. We really like the venue but the new owners really need to instigate better food, better presentation and a bit more finesse if it is to succeed. Please take heed and address these shortfalls. By the way, the menus are tatty and badly printed which just about says it all.

Visited The Folly Tearoom for a family celebration. Needed booking - most tables were occupied when we arrived with several partaking in afternoon tea. Service was friendly prompt and sufficiently attentive. The afternoon tea away standout with everything served made to a high standard; delicious, varied, aesthetic, matched / exceeded home made (which is unusual) and with an ability to swap out couple of elements e.g. sandwiches for quiche / sausage roll. We had 3 between 4 of us and struggled to finish everything. Nice ambience & touches like Royal Albert teacups & saucers with teapots with knitted tea cosies. Was one of the best afternoon tea experiences I have had. Would definitely recommend.

Three of us stopped at the Folly tea rooms for afternoon tea. We were seated fairly quickly but it took a while for the waitress to bring us some menus. Then quite a while longer before she came to take our order. In the end it was 45 minutes before we received our drinks and a further 10 minutes before the food arrived. The food was generally OK but they were a bit mean with the tiny little sandwiches and one of the quiches had fish in it which none of us had even heard of before. We used to visit the Folly tea rooms fairly regularly before the pandemic and always found it to be good. The waitress told us it has recently been taken over so maybe this explains why it has changed.

Disappointed after having been a regular a few years ago we headed back whilst in the area and left feeling a bit ‘meh!’Service was pleasant and friendly but value for money just wasn’t there.£7.95 for a sandwich is about right in this area, but we had Roast Beef and an Egg with Cress. Both came with a limp uninspired dressed salad and tea cup of crisps . What made it worse was the cheap processed thinly sliced ‘sunblest’ white bread - yuk!I know we are in difficult times but it’s beyond the wit of man to get freshly baked bread. Reduced menu - fine. Keep it simple , do it well.Unfortunately on this occasion it was simple and poor. The Folly - you need to up your game as you fall well below others around you

Beautiful, proper, old fashioned (in the best possible way) tearoom. Lovely choice on the menu but we had the Folly Fruit tea. Beautiful light scones served with clotted cream and jam on a proper cake stand which made it feel special. Lovely garden to look out on (and eat in). It really felt like you'd stepped back back in time and the 1940's background music just added to the atmosphere. Staff were lovely and prices extremely reasonable. We will definitely visit again.

We are privileged to live in Holt and so to have the Follys tea rooms on our doorstep is a real treat. During these unprecedented times we expected there to be a little bit of confusion and slip ups which one would understand given these very new and exceptional circumstances but no the Follys have you covered. All distancing regulations in place and on point with the smiling and helpful staff that as always endevour to make your visit so wonderful you'll want to keep coming back. I've visited so many establishments that haven't nearly got it together as much as the Follys gang with the high and well thought out and put together coronavirus measures. If that isn't enough to tempt you, no where for us has beaten the mouth watering super tasty afternoon teas. The teas alone are devine. As someone who has worked for many years in the catering industry I can appreciate just how hard you are all working to go above and beyond your juty to serve and now care for your customers although we've always felt you've cared as it shows in your impeccable service. It's really shone through and we all felt very safe an assured during our time with you. Thankyou for having us. We'll be back soon! Blessings, kathryn and family. Much love X

Ordered two different ciabattas to share for lunch with a friend. Brie, caramalised onion and red onion chutney and goats cheese, pepper and rocket. My goodness they were so delicious. Hot and tasty! I was pleased to see that the Tea Rooms looked immaculately clean in this current climate and tables were well spaced out. Smiley happy service. Shall be back to try my favourite cheese scones very soon. Can't wait!

Lovely atmosphere, relaxed & inviting. Very friendly staff. Loved having the choice of the more savoury ‘Gentleman’s afternoon tea’ with two fabulous pieces of quiche & sausage roll, alongside sandwiches & scones. Beautifully presented, high quality food. Loved every minute of my visit and would highly recommend. We booked which was clearly the best thing to do as this hidden gem is rightfully very popular.

We came on a hot late September afternoon wanting an alcohol-free cider each. We sat at a filthy outside table (had to ask for it to be cleaned) and ordered (off the menu) two 0.5% alcohol ciders. When we got the cans, fortunately we looked at them before opening them - they were 5.0% alcohol. When we pointed out that the alcohol content was 10 times what we had asked for, the woman at the counter was completely non-plussed... 'Well that was what we were sent....' I don't think that the Norfolk Constabulary would have been too sympathetic! And don't even ask about the palaver getting a refund. Interestingly, the Folly Tearoom only takes cash, no credit cards. HMR&C might be interested....

We used the tea room multiple times during our stay in Holt. Every time the staff couldn’t do enough to accommodate us and the quality of food and drinks is very good. We sampled various sandwiches, ciabattas and lots of cake, all were superb! The secret garden was lovely in the autumnal sunshine. A strong recommendation from us.

We (3) have enjoyed coming to Follys every time we're in Holt. (We live in Dersingham.) Today unfortunately, the customer service was found truely lacking. We were in a queue for a limited number of tables. The customer in front of us kindly requested a takeaway as she only wanted a cup of tea and there was only one table for four left inside the tearoom. The waitress encouraged her to sit at said table, then told us there was no room for us unless we wanted to sit outside in the garden, where no waitress service was available. Surely this is commercial insanity and poor customer service. We decided to give Byfords the benefit of our custom, where the welcome was as expected! Is business that good that you can afford to permanently loose clients?

twice in 6 days! First time was tea and cake, second time was sandwich, cake and tea. My mum really enjoyed the coffee cake and bakewell tart, she said better than any National Trust fresh cakes (that's high praise indeed) I recommend the doorstep bacon and egg toasted sandwich. Nice little courtyard area with garden in the back and small cafe inside. Staff very friendly even though they were rushed off their feet.

Four of us popped in for lunch and although we had a long wait it was well worth the wait. Excellent tea and the sandwiches were home made and very tasty- we also had sausage rolls which were top quality - I would definitely recommend here

This was a perfect lunch for my mum, sister in laws and neice. The staff were excellent and the food was all amazing. 4 traditional and 1 gentlemans to try the quiche. (which were both delicious. My favourite was the fresh pea, mint and feta) The cheese scones here are the nicest. There was a tiny mistake on our order but the staff did everything to correct this. One staff member especially was excellent and I wish I had got her name. Delicious soft sandwiches of a variety of fillings, cheese, fruit or plain scones and so many cakes. We are all big eaters but we took some cakes away as they defeated us. This was surprising!!!! There was a fight over the last Chocolate brownie. Such a selection of teas to choose from. Chai massala and the morretto cream are a must. You need to book though as its constantly busy. Proof of how excellent this little place is.

Just popped in for quick lunch, very homely, packed with customers, and very bright and airy. Loved all the mismatched china tea cups and teapots. We had sandwiches which were full of our chosen fillings and the side of crisps came in teacups which was very unique. Would highly recommend. They also have a few tables outside for when the weather improves and you have a four legged friend to take.

I have visited Follys several times now and it never disappoints. Today we were served by Amy, we received fantastic service, tea, food and gorgeous surroundings. I would highly recommend Follys to anyone visiting the area and it is not to be missed. See you again soon!

Waiter took our order for 3 teas and the standard tea for 3 except 1 was just plain sandwiches and plain scones! The tea arrived but no food, food was very slow when it arrived we had drank all the tea, but they only brought over enough food for 2! When we asked where the other food was they said the waiter had not ordered it ! So 3 teas and 2 for food! We then had to wait for other food - all in all very slow and muddled service and no organisation.

We decided to stop off at Follys today as we came for a birthday celebration in August and it was wonderful. But today it was terrible. We were definitely an inconvenience. We had to stack plates up to make space which were not cleared away, no one asked how anything was and we told the waitress we'd order more after our cake. We never saw her again. Another waitress walked past me and kicked me chair so hard I spilled my tea, she just vanished and didn't apologise. I had to call out to the kitchen four times just for the code to the toilet. We decided not to stay for more food as the service was abysmal. We actually sat for 20 mins after finishing our food for someone to come to us, alas no one did. Doubt we'll ever come back.

Called in Today for a quick snack & drink as we have been here several times in the past. Unfortunately it was not quite the same as it was a couple of years ago. One member of staff was not as customer friendly as she could have been. Food was less than average. Sorry but we won't be returning

This is the second visit to the pub- after the annual Land Rover rally for the Norfolk firefighters charity. The first time we visited was just for drinks, this time we had a meal- a roast dinner in my case. We hadn’t booked and were very pleased with the service, the lady behind the bar took our orders promptly and was very helpful with the children’s menu. Food was served quickly and was delicious, proper “pub grub” The atmosphere was very pleasant too, it was a dark, wet November night and upon entering you’re greeted by an open fire, cozy bar and cozy restaurant. Will definitely be returning- more than once a year!

Best iced coffee ever! A regular here, staff always helpful and polite. Place is always clean and tidy. Food is always freshly cooked. Dogs always welcomed with a bowl of fresh water and a butcher's sausage. Today after a stressful morning I needed a nice friendly place to go. No brainer! Megs and an iced coffee, all is right again with the world. Thanks Thomaz

Found this open on the last day of our short break and left wishing it had been open earlier in the week. The best vibes and coffee in Holt by a long mile.
