We had a very long wait for our lunch, when it arrived the quiche was so well done my uncle couldn't cut through the pastry there was no compensation. My ham salad was absolutely gorgeous.... I reviewed the cafe before we arrived and I think it's now looking tired and needs a more happy atmosphere. I think the crab take aways are probably the most popular

Went to experience a cromer crab sandwich. If you like egg sandwiches I'm sure you will love this place. Our sandwich was fresh and tasty but just a bit disappointed regarding the filling. I read that there was a whole crab in the sandwich but I'm not sure that was correct. I'm not giving a bad review but just a disappointment for the price. I'm sure the rest of the menu was fine.

We visited late in the day today wanting to try their crab as we had heard some great things about the cafe. We ordered a crab salad, a cheese toastie, some cake and a coffee. Originally we were told that there was no crab left, so we decided to have just the cake and drinks and head out to find crab elsewhere. At this point one of the staff said she’d pop over to the local fishmongers to get a crab to make sure we didn’t miss out. Sure enough she came back with a dressed crab ready to be served. My toastie was excellent and my wife assured me the crab was top notch and super fresh. Our baby boy was suitably entertained by the staff, they were friendly and went above and beyond today for us. Very much a recommended place to grab a quick lunch.

My wife and I both had jacket potatoes with fresh crab filling. They served our drinks immediately and by time food arrived they were flat cold and almost fully drank up. Meals were described as buttered jacket potatoes with "lashings" of fresh crab. The potatoes were overcooked and dry. There was little evidence of butter and what little crab was evident was smothered in a sauce and not the pure fresh crab expected. We ate at the nearby The Old Rock Shop bistro a few days before and that was superb. The Crab Pot with it's dingy decor and walls full of faded, dreadful prints for sale was a poor alternative to the other establishment and we regretted not having returned there instead of trying a different eaterie.

Popped in for a takeaway crab sandwich, the cafe was quiet as it was shortly before closing time. The sandwich was almost £10 which was the most expensive of our holiday so far. Unfortunately it was also the most lacklustre, 2 slices of supermarket brown bread with crab meat, no salad or anything to make it stand out and justify its price tag. We didn’t see anywhere else in Cromer selling crab sandwiches, which was surprising as it’s supposedly famous for crab. By comparison go to the Crab Hut along the coast at Brancaster on Staithe, sandwich was half the price and in a different league.

I read your owner response to the last customers review. I myself am at the front end of a service industry so understand how this may appear critical. However, It is disappointing you write a reply like this as you need to accept the responsibility to ensure you train your staff correctly - for a small business, customer service is key - there is a way to deliver a message and it sounds like this time it wasn’t delivered well even though I’m sure the girl was doing as you had told her. Don’t make your previous customer look uncaring - take this as an opportunity to improve your service. Honest reviews are like liquid gold - use it ! Accept the responsibility and don’t deflect.

Very disappointed! We have visited here several times a year for the past few years and always had a pleasant experience. This time was different, it was more of a doggie cafe, not being dog owners and having allergies we were disappointed to be seated then be surrounded by a couple with two very large dogs who came in after us. We had been seated in the tiny room at the back of the shop which has 3 small tables. There was already a couple with a small dog in there (which wasn’t a problem). We were shown to the table and sat waiting as it was very busy and just one person doing everything. Then the couple with the two large dogs came in, one dog was sniffing on the table which we didn’t like either, it’s unhygienic! We excused ourselves and left, I think the lady taking orders thought we were fed up of waiting and she explained she was busy, but we never mind waiting. I think there should be a separate room allocated for people with dogs as it’s unfair to visitors who have allergies or aren’t keen on dogs sniffing around you while you eat. We will be going elsewhere for our crab sandwiches on our future visits to Cromer.

My and my partner popped into Crab Pot Cafe almost on the stroke of midday which is when this cafe stops offering the breakfast menu. The lady kindly accommodated our breakfast request which we placed quickly as we realised we were cutting it fine. The breakfast was not only tasty but also good value. We were both really hungry when we arrived and fully content when we left. The lady providing service on this Sunday was friendly and efficient, the cafe was nice and relaxed for the most part. Unfortunately towards the end of our visit, just after ordering another coffee around 2-3 groups of people entered the cafe with dogs. I really like dogs but they all started barking at each other with fairly shrill barks which was far from relaxing within the fairly small cafe environment. We drank our coffees and left shortly after due to this disturbance. I've only rated the cafe down ever so slightly due to understanding that this is not going to be the normal situation and realising how difficult this is for the staff/owners to be able to manage. I'd definetly return if in the area and I'm sure it is a massive rarity to encounter ill-behaved dogs (or moreso irresponsible dog owners!!) in this or any other establshment.

Have visited before and enjoyed the crab sandwiches but very disappointed this time. It was busy but a table was available. On entering we were told the crab may have sold out. We needed something to eat so decided on pannini's before the waitress told us they had crab. When our order was eventually taken there were no pannini's so we ordered toasted sandwiches and coffees. Service was very slow, the one staff member serving, clearing tables, making the drinks and informing anyone walking through the door they were out of crab! Put a notice on the door!! We had almost finished our coffees, when, on enquiring when our sandwiches would be ready ( only 3 tables occupied now and a couple waiting for take away ) it turned out our order hadn't gone through to the kitchen! We gave up at this point. What a farce and there was no offer of a coffee on the house that might have gone some way to compensate for the poor service. Won't be going again.

On a day trip to Cromer wanted to try the famous Cromer crab so decided to try the Crab pot cafe. We ordered a couple of crab sandwiches and a dressed crab salad - the 2 crab related options available. The food was enjoyable but the experience lacked a little finesse. Would have been helpful to have a better description of how the crab was prepared (whether with mayo & the mix of brown & white meat as some in the party were not keen on some elements but discovered this too late). Some cutlery and crockery provided were not as clean as could be. Menu prices were reasonable but crab options limited considering the cafe’s name. Cooked English breakfast was tasty & good value. First visit with my daughter and grandson. Called in on the off-chance as we all fancied a crab sandwich. We were warmly welcomed. Over the years I have eaten numerous crab sandwiches and honestly, this was the freshest and tastiest I have eaten - absolutely...

Excellent food and great service. Both had crab sandwiches and they were delicious. Also had a coffee and the sloe and rose lemonaxe was nice.

Holt is a bimbling town and ably served by cafes, each with their own identity. The Wandering Whelk is nicely tucked away by a car park. We opted for coffee and toasted tea cakes but the menu was full of breakfast/ brunch treats. There were cakes too. It was very clean, relaxing and speedy service. It is an ideal place to linger over coffee and "a little something" as Winnie the Pooh might say

Called in Today for a quick snack & drink as we have been here several times in the past. Unfortunately it was not quite the same as it was a couple of years ago. One member of staff was not as customer friendly as she could have been. Food was less than average. Sorry but we won't be returning

Best iced coffee ever! A regular here, staff always helpful and polite. Place is always clean and tidy. Food is always freshly cooked. Dogs always welcomed with a bowl of fresh water and a butcher's sausage. Today after a stressful morning I needed a nice friendly place to go. No brainer! Megs and an iced coffee, all is right again with the world. Thanks Thomaz

Found this open on the last day of our short break and left wishing it had been open earlier in the week. The best vibes and coffee in Holt by a long mile.
