We really appreciated the canapés upon arrival. A lovely touch. I had pork belly and my wife had Lobster Thermidor which were both cooked perfectly and were beautifully presented. We weren’t expecting chocolates afterwards either which was a lovely surprise. Our only disappointment was having a Service Charge hidden on the bill. Although the service was great, we didn’t tip on this occasion, as we totally disagree with this practice, as we like to decide ourselves if and how much we tip. Apart from that we had a perfect evening and will definitely return.

We prebooked Saturday evening meals to celebrate the 90th birthday for our mum . We hoped to eat in a heated gazebo but due to poor weather we had a private room. The seating was very close, and 9 adults felt squashed. Another small table could have been added to give more room. Background music would have been nice. However, staff sprinkled 90 birthday confetti on the table, which was very thoughtful . Lewis, our main server, was excellent and very attentive. Explained menu choices and coped well when questioned about an allergy one of our party has. Excellent starters all very tasty. 7 of 9 main courses were very good. 2 vegetarian meals were only average and not particularly tasty. Complimentary canapés whilst waiting for 1st course and wonderful chocolates presented at the end. 2 other servers helped bring the meals to the table. Neither smiled, and both came across as grumpy. We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit and birthday girl had a great time. Thank you lewis

Quite disappointing with our experience. Staff seem very flustered and it felt like they were understaffed. Booked table for 1.00 but did not sit down until 1.20 then still had to wait for our ploughman's and platter. The food was good and plenty on the board, did not come with the pickled onions and only came with 2 small slices of bread each, when we asked the waiter if this was for both of us we were told yes, did not ask if we would like additional bread. We eventually ordered more at an additional charge. Waited to pay bill and eventually had to go and find someone. On a more positive note the building is lovely and lots of lovely areas to sit

Excellent stay, we and our dogs were made very welcome. Service from all staff was excellent, however Josh deserves a special mention, truly outstanding! Having lunched here before our first stay confirms the excellence of the Dale's Hotel. We will be booking again. Update April 2024. Went for Sunday lunch, absolutely brilliant. Great service, excellent food, no issues with food allergy and greeted like old friends. Booked to stay again next year.

Lunch: menu said a jus. Came with a usual roast's gravey that was served with every other roast that day. Fine bean parcel, wrapped in bacon, was cremated. Cutting into the cockerel meat found so under cooked that blood was present. Otherwise meal acceptable. Advised waitress, nothing. Advised at payment desk, bill we paid regardless, still no comment. Lovely location: general service ok: catering standard, monitoring and observation response - needs attention and correction. Let us know when you!ve addressed issues.

Took my 91 year old Mum out for lunch today at the Dales. The whole experience was outstanding!! Robin & James you were both exceptional and would not have been out of place in a luxury Swiss 5* Hotel. The food was excellent as it is always. What made it even more special was that you were at a quiet period between Christmas & New Year...many places might of become complacent because of this..........but not you!! :-)) Very much appreciated, we will be back on my mother's 92nd birthday, you were all absolutely amazing and an absolute credit to The Dales and Mackenzie Hotels as a whole!! Grateful thanks, Peter

My husband and I (and two friends visiting from Scotland) ate here last night as part of Norfolk's Restaurant Week. We were caught up in a traffic grid lock in Norwich and arrived an hour after our table booking time. It proved to be no problem for the staff, who were very attentive, and we had a delicious meal, beautifully presented and we were under no pressure to vacate our table. Altogether a pleasurable experience. Thank you to all at The Dales.

Back after a long absence with a very old friend who comes regularly. Delightful service from a friendly waiter and a delicious Ceasar salad for lunch. As good as the one I make myself. A traditional dining room - which is a welcome change - at less than we would have paid in one of the local cafes. I speak from experience. A round of applause for the food and for the excellent service.

This is a review of the restaurant only, and only for lunch. The inn's setting is absolutely lovely. On a warm sunny day the tables on the expansive lawn are really inviting. The food at lunch on the day we visited, however, was ordinary. Smoked salmon sandwich came on a thick, dry bun with a tiny bit of salmon. Chips were nice. Caesar salad with chicken featured only 3 or 4 very thinly sliced strips of chicken and a bit of mayo for the dressing. Bacon was nice, however. Best thing about lunch was the wine list. Surprising variety by the glass and a generous pour. Service was really outstanding and probably saved the day. Very dog friendly both inside and outside. We'll return for the wine, the sun and the lawn but would be hard pressed to dine again.

The Dales Hotel was, apart from the size of the room, very good. The hotel was very clean, with attentive and friendly staff. The food, both breakfast and dinner, were well cooked and plentiful with a different menu for each of the days we were there. The hotel is positioned a walk away from Sheringham and the beach and, if you cut through Sheringham Park via the hotel, a very pleasant walk. The room size was, for the price, a tad disappointing and the fabric of the room, in need of a bit of TLC. Over all a nice country house hotel worth a visit.

We were staying in Norfolk on holiday and decided to try Dale's Country House Hotel for Siunday lunch. We were not disappointed. From the moment we approached the beautiful building of the hotel, I knew we were in for a treat. We were greeted at reception by a very polite young man who asked if we had booked, which we had. He passed us to a lovely lady who found us a really nice spot by a window overlooking the front of the hotel. The dining room looked spectacular! All laid up beautifully with pink fresh linen. We were asked if we would like to order a drink, followed by menus which offered various choices. My husband had 3 courses and I chose two. The food was very good and attractively arranged on our plates. The desserts were incredible. We took coffee on the terrace and were presented with 4 additional sweet treats which looked and tasted delicious. Thankbyou for a high quality, good value meal.

Myself, my partner and in-laws stayed at the hotel last weekend. Though it’s a beautiful building, I feel it’s very overpriced considering the following. My In-laws required a ground floor room, wheelchair accessible. Though the room was a good size, the shower had a sizeable step up to it, no grab rails or shower chair, though one was offered, but it was explained it was in the basement and needed a good clean. No sockets were accessible for my Mother in-Law to charge her phone. She had to physically move furniture in order to get to a socket. The lighting in the bathroom was very poor. My Father in -Law is partially sighted, so bad lighting meant he couldn’t see his way around the bathroom properly. The decor was tired and dated, and the skirting boards needed repairing. My Father -in Law uses a walker, outside their room was the exit. A badly laid carpet caused a trip hazard as it had crumpled up meaning his walker got stuck. This had to be pointed out to a member of staff to rectify. Mine and my partners room wasn’t any better. Very dated, wallpaper was scuffed, headboard not even attached to the bed, poorly ventilated as only half the small window opened. It was so hot, we had to have the fan on all day and night, plus the milk provided for tea/coffee was off, so not even able to have a drink. The towel rail on the bathroom was so hot my partner scalded himself. I’m bemused as to why in summer it was even on. Considering the price paid, the rooms are very dated and not worthy of the 4 star status especially as breakfast was an extra charge of £14:99!!!! Needless to say, though I’m sure the Dales is a popular venue for special occasions, it lets itself down on the rooms. We will not be returning for reasons stated above. Far too expensive for what it is.

Visited this restaurant for a celebratory birthday dinner, wish we hadn't bothered. Firstly, I must say that the front of house staff could not be faulted, attentive, professional which built our hopes up for a super evening, and it was until the food arrived. I had the Norfolk fillet steak, medium rare, absolutely terrible. I have never had a fillet that had that much grizzle and fat in it, awful and my wife's pheasant was so tough it was probably some old road kill they had found. As for the vegetables, basically a pile of veg taken from one pan and dumped on the plate, no finesse or presentation skills whatsoever. To top it all my wife's dish arrived a lot later than mine and my daughters, the reason we were told was 'sorry for delay but the chef caught his glove alight on the cooker', what an absolute joke. This establishment really needs to employ some decent chef's and quickly. Did complain about it and they reduced our meals by a third, they obviously need the money. My advice, look somewhere else but not The Links in West Runton or The Seamarge in Overstrand, all owned by the same people so I guess the 'quality' would be the same as well. AVOID!!!!

Of 8 Christmas meals we have had this year it was the 3 "amateur" venues (not a criticism, its not the main focus of their business) that have outscored the "professional" kitchens who, largely, don't seem to have got their act together since covid. So where does The Dales stand ?..............it was "above average" - as usual and as expected - but the food seemed to be rather lacking in seasoning and there was a significant lack of variety in the veg. If you didn't like sprouts then it was "bad luck" since there was nowt else........no carrots, no red cabbage, no parsnips, no other root or green veg and that was disappointing. The price, however, represented good value for money

For the past 6 years I have been taking my mum who is 88 years this week to this restaurant for lunch for her birthday and it has always been excellent. The service is ideal for a special occasion as it makes you feel special and the food has been superb. We went to the restaurant on Saturday and everything started off well, lovely starter, excellent service and friendly staff. Then we got the main course which was such a disappointment. The beautiful Cod was full of bones. The menu didn't say that the fish was not filleted. The chips were about 3cm square and although they tasted lovely the middle of the chips were uncooked. The mashed peas were very dry. We had to send the meal back because we couldn't eat it. I was very worried that my elderly mother would choke on a bone. When i went to reception to pay I was asked if everything was okay and I explained that the fish was not filleted. The manageress who was also at the reception desk was very snotty and said that all fish has bones and suggested that i order squid in future. I tried to explain that we had fish and chips out often and have never had bones in the fish. She was very dismissive and due to the attitude of this member of staff we would not go to this restaurant again. A simple apology would have been enough for us to return but avoid the fish. It is such a shame as we have always enjoyed our visits to this restaurant. If you decide to visit then beware of the Fish!

We used to visit The Dales when it was a home for older people when they held garden parties and fetes. It holds so many special memories and to go back and stay was wonderful. My room was lovely, on the ground floor as I was run over last year and less mobile. The bed and pillows so comfy, a lovely walk in shower and a deck outside with a lovely walk into Sheringham Park. Excellent waiter, shown to the most delightful table. Menus handed over, drinks order taken. Excellent start. No starters ordered, mains arrived after a respectable time, 2 Chicken with bean stew etc, 1 of my guests had eaten this dish before and said it was not as good as last time. My 'Cod' and chips were unreal, never before have I had such a grey in appearance, dry, tasteless, piece of fried fish in my life. This was returned to the kitchen and I was offered a replacement meal which I did not take up on. Deserts were missing the ice cream addition and the cheese and biscuits were served with no butter. I did take up my complaint with Maria via email and received an apology regarding my visit, but things like basic cooking should not leave the kitchen if not up to scratch. The cod dish was taken off the bill but no member of duty management came to speak to us and offer an explanation. Sadly not a happy birthday lunch out with friends.

We booked 2 nights at Sea Marge and the Dales transferred our payment to them so redeemed themselves somewhat. Hopefully something will be done about the unwelcome staff

Can I start by saying a huge thank you to all the lovely staff at The Dales both front and back of house. From our disastrous late arrival thanks to car issues we were warmly welcomed, and hoping to be able to maybe grab a sandwich the friendly Ann ushered us quickly into the dining room and within minutes we had the most amazing 3 course dinner. We booked for the New Year drawn in by the lieu of a live Rat Pack Tribute. New Years dinner was an absolute delight the food was cooked to perfection and every course was simply divine - I think they may have wizards working in those kitchens! Unfortunately we were not seated anywhere near the musician and after dinner all the tables in the main dinning hall where full meaning we had to listen from the lobby. That said the atmosphere was lovely and many of the guests are regulars and made us feel very welcome. Our room was spotlessly clean and really made use of every bit of space. Every part of our stay was perfect and we'd love to return again next year.

Over the years we have gone to the dales. Today they hosted a very personal funeral. Food top notch, everything else just right.

The afternoon tea was not up to the standard I expected won't be going there again. Reception staff were offhand when talking to my friend.

The food was great. The decor of the hotel was lovely. I highly recommend. There is a real wood fire in the lounge.

Loved staying here. The garden with the woods is really nice and helps wind down from everyday stress. Service and food are both very good.

Called in Today for a quick snack & drink as we have been here several times in the past. Unfortunately it was not quite the same as it was a couple of years ago. One member of staff was not as customer friendly as she could have been. Food was less than average. Sorry but we won't be returning

Best iced coffee ever! A regular here, staff always helpful and polite. Place is always clean and tidy. Food is always freshly cooked. Dogs always welcomed with a bowl of fresh water and a butcher's sausage. Today after a stressful morning I needed a nice friendly place to go. No brainer! Megs and an iced coffee, all is right again with the world. Thanks Thomaz

Holt is a bimbling town and ably served by cafes, each with their own identity. The Wandering Whelk is nicely tucked away by a car park. We opted for coffee and toasted tea cakes but the menu was full of breakfast/ brunch treats. There were cakes too. It was very clean, relaxing and speedy service. It is an ideal place to linger over coffee and "a little something" as Winnie the Pooh might say
