No food served. And whilst I know it’s a pub - I wanted a cup of tea. I get it - go to a tea shop. But I don’t drink cold drinks and the husband wanted a couple of beers. Nice though and would go again if drinking!
I have had numerous excellent meals here in the past , have held birthday and anniversary functions and I have always been more than satisfied. Today I attended a function and was extremely disappointed. My boeuf bourguignon consisted of one small cube of meat and after complaining that was increased to 4 and 2 others on the table were served 2 cubes and the portion sizes were very small. The menu planning was poor with anyone having the melon starter and chocolate brownie getting 2 servings of raspberry sorbet. The apple crumble was anaemic and looked as if it had never seen an oven and had a powdery texture described by some as having no fat in the crumble mix.
Overall, especially with the good reputation of the hotel, the meal was very poor.
why di i go for the really good sausage rolls and the bird and blend marcha latte ice cream they allow dogs and have a good selection of cakes sandwiches
Really nice food, served hot. Came with a complimentary bag of prawn crackers which was nice. Good selection of choice on the menu too. Decent size food portions.
Continues to be good 👍
Just a few days before Christmas, place was empty when we got there but was starting to fill up by the time we left(probably as the Hippodrome emptied). Menu pretty limited and made worse by the fact they had no haddock BUT the plaice and chips I had instead was delicious and huge

We went here for breakfast, it was a good choice of food at reasonable prices, service was efficient and friendy. Would recommend it. (Cannot rate rooms as did not stay here).

The room was clean and everything worked as it should do in there. We were able to park easily on the car park as there were a good amount of allocated spaces. Check-in was very smooth. It was very useful to have sugar/tea/milk stored near reception for customers to help themselves to (other premier inns I have stayed in don't always have this and it's more time consuming having to ask people at reception, especially as there isn't someone always on there the entire time so it's just much easier if you can get them yourself) The shower was good.
Registering the vehicle at the self service desk did not work. When we came to it, there was already another's car registration in the box. We took this out and put our car registration in. It then asked how many days we were staying for - this was a confusing question as we were checking in 30.03.25 and checking out 01.04.25, but we did not know if this would class as 2 or 3 days? We put 3 days to be on the safe side and clicked confirmed but nothing happened. It did not say this had been successful or registered. So I asked the receptionist and they checked for us and no it had not gone through.... Good job I said something because if we had just left it and assumed it had gone through we would probably be receiving a fine! This may be the case for the people who put their car registration in before us too if they did not check with reception. The receptionist did it for us on her computer but she didn't come and take a look at the machines which weren't working properly, and when we checked out 2 days later I took a look at them as we left and they still looked the same, so it doesn't look like these have been fixed at all and no 'out of order' signs have been put them on which is not very good.
Breakfast was a let down. Unfortunately there were no blueberry muffins both days, and no pancakes on the first day despite these being listed as being available on the menu. I don't think it was a case of they had some out but had ran out by the time we had breakfast (which was 9am, which is not late considering breakfast is available until 10.30am) I don't think there had been any available the entire time because there were no empty trays for them. Even if there had been some out earlier and they had all gone, then more should have been replenished. I don't think this is very good for the price you are paying to have 2 items just not on the buffet and nothing up to say why or offer apologies. The cooked breakfast was barely hot. The first day it was buffet style and the second day cooked to order. Both of these days everything on it was luke warm except for the sausages which were fairly hot. This effected enjoyment and was disappointing. I have stayed in other Premier Inns where I have had both buffet style and cooked to order breakfasts and they have not been as poor as this.
The bed was also not as comfy as previous premier inns I have stayed in, the second day I had a really bad back ache because of this.
My Husband and I went to this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday evening in April. It was our intention to try it out before bringing a large family group later the following week.
On the positive, we were greeted and seated quickly at our table. My husband ordered a T bone steak and asked for 'medium rare'. The food took AGES to come to the table, nearly an HOUR but when it did we were impressed with the hot plates and the piping hot food. My steak was cooked well and I enjoyed it.
However ,my husband was quick to say that his was over cooked but thought that because the steak was so large maybe it was just the edges. As he got closer to the middle he wasn't enjoying his over cooked steak and pointed this out to the floor manager. He was very apologetic and offered a replacement. We were very reasonable about it and had not made a fuss.
Several minutes later he returned to tell us that as they were very busy there wasn't enough room on the BBQ. My husband agreed to wait. He had been so looking forward to it.
Suddenly the chef swung around the corner and lent over us at the table. He was REALLY AGGRESSIVE and said that the steak was NOT overcooked ( it really was as mine was 'medium to well' and it was the same as mine)
He was practically in my husbands face and was INCREDIBLY RUDE!
My husband told him to forget it then.
We asked the floor manager for the bill and told him what had just happened. He was embarrassed and apologised but by then our evening was ruined. We will NEVER RETURN and that chef really let everyone down that night. Totally unnecessary and upset us for the rest of that evening.
Two way cafe reminds me of holidays in the 70s and 80s. Good home cooked meals like shepherd's pie, roast dinner, full English, pork chops etc. The seating area to the front of the cafe is beautiful with many flowering planters and baskets. I love this place ❤️
