Fish & Grill in Great Yarmouth

Avoid! Disgusting fish and bad service. Ordered a medium cod, it was that oily it was inedible. Had to wait ages, took it back and wanted a refund as I had two young children with me. Told I couldn’t have one. Asked to speak to the manager who said he couldn’t refund due to the tills operating in London, complete bull****Gave me another fish and again it was gross, tasteless and greasy! Literally like a slug in your mouth. Avoid this place, they’re just after your money.

We visited here with our 9 year old grandson before visiting the Hippodrome show. It was quite busy but the very polite staff quickly brought drinks and took our orders which arrived very swiftly. I had the fresh grilled sea bass which was beautifully cooked and so fresh, you wouldn’t get better anywhere. A generous portion of scampi and crispy cod. All with generous chips and salad. Great value for money. Lovely food, staff and very clean surroundings, our grandson gave it 5 stars out of 10! We agree and will definitely be back soon. Thankyou

Six things that are outstanding about this restaurant.1. The quality of every dish was superb and big portions too.2. The chips were the best I've had for ages.3. The staff were friendly and very efficient.4. They offered grilled as well as battered fish.5. There were excellent vegetarian options.6. My husband left his newly purchased flip flops and returned the next day just in case they had been found. And they were!

Visited yesterday while on holiday in the area. Restaurant was busy and we were told we may wait half hour or so for a table so we happily waited.Staff were polite and friendly and the food was amazing. I had the grilled king prawns in garlic sauce which was served with a salad, coleslaw and amazing chips.Daughter had cod and chips and two sons had grilled sea bass and kids chicken nuggets.All food was great and went down well with the children.Will definitely visit again when on holiday in the area.

Staff very friendly and polite,Waited 20 mins for a takeaway although wasn't told of a wait.Food very disappointing chicken burger isn't a burger it's a tiny piece of chicken breast in a roll, and very chewy. Litteraly a handful of chips for £2 I did query if was a medium potion and seemed very small.Shame as eaten in restaurant and its lovely.

My husband and myself went to Fish n'grill in Great Yarmouth for a meal before going to the Hippodrome. They cater for Gluten Free which I have to have. We didn't have to book a table and we got straight in. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Once we had ordered we didn't wait long for the food and drinks. The food and drinks were delicious and would recommend eating here. We will be going back.

Went here for lunch with my family. From the very start, the staff were brilliant. We got seated quickly and we’re given just the right amount of time with the menu, before they took our order. The food came in good time and it was delicious. All the way through the waiting staff were amazing. Friendly, good fun and attentive. When we asked for the bill, we didn’t wait ages like we have in other places. Then whilst we were paying the manager/ owner, not sure which, started having a go at a member of staff, in front of the customers. I thought this was extremely unprofessional. The staff will make people come back to eat there. He seriously needs to realise, that his staff are worth their weight in gold. If I was setting up a restaurant in Great Yarmouth, I’d poach them all. When leaving our tip I told the girls not to share it with him, for being so miserable. I have managed people, treat them well and they will work harder and better for you. It’s not rocket science.

We travelled here as there were so many recent good reviews. I had the large cod and it was almost £18. The batter was nice but that's where the complements end. The fish its self was soggy, and some parts actually had the consistency of snot. For a family of 3, the bill was over £50. Genuinely disappointed.

Arrived on the chance of a table as usually book beforehand seated straight away mostly new staff one girl Monica I think was very polite and helpful .food was its usual high standard .

I arrived without a reservation however they seated my daughter and myself within 15 minutes. Service was great and food was amazing. The nicest fish and chips I’d had in a long time. Staff were friendly and efficient. The cleanliness was great. Excellent value for money would definitely recommend.

Excellent. Clean, modern restraint with a superb gluten free option on the fish. We’ve been all over the UK and always tried to find GF fish and chip shops and this one is probably the best.

We was very pleased with our meal today at Fish & Grill, the food was perfectly fresh. The prices are higher than some of the other restaurants in the area, but it is WORTH EVERY PENNY! Highly recommended.

What can I say called in for dinner today and so glad we did the food was excellent ,massive portion sizes ,freshly cooked .nothing was to much trouble ,a bit of miscommunication about one of the burgers but was quickly rectified and the owner came to check all was OK nice touch ,staff were lovely it is a family run buisness and had plenty of time to chat with customers which is always a good sign of Buisness owners caring about what they are doing ,well done guys and highly recommend

We had the best fish and chips in this lovely restaurant the service was excellent and the batterbon the fish was so light would definitely recommend it to any one visiting great Yarmouth

I cannot rate Fish & Grill highly enough. Found them from a Google search for gluten free fish and chips in the area. We went in, had an amazing, friendly welcome and given the most extensive gluten free menu I've ever seen in a fish and chip restaurant. Even onion rings! The food was absolutely amazing, and the staff clearly take huge pride in their gluten free offering. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Amazing gluten free battered cod, chips and curry sauce! They even provided gluten free vinegar… just can’t fault them. My friend even confirmed they tasted the same as hers.

First visit for many years and tbh left feeling a little underwhelmed. The menu is alot smaller now. They only had cod, no haddock or plaice. The service was ok not great. Dessert was a little dry and others in our party commented on a poor banana split with runny jelly. Ok at best

it was great we went in for salmon for myself, ok it was sold out so i chose the bass and it was lovely, ok salmon was out its a pandemic bexit etc that is not a problem, second time we went in the bass was out ones again no problem, i had a greek salad and scampi and yet again great we would higly recomend it

Drawn in by the adverts for fair prices specials of Seabass and Salmon,when seated near the exit door that did not close properly when people left on a cold evening ,we were told all the fish was gone apart from the Cod that was a same price around £15.50 incl chips, shredded lettuce leaf,1 slice of cucumber and 1 slice of small onion,the grilled Cod was medium sized and undercooked and my wifes was the smallist grilled Cod i have seen served up in a lifetime,so we got punished because of False Adverts for fish they did not have, why leave the boards out unless it is a trick?,so 2 cod chips and 2 diet cokes @ £3,90 each =£39.80p rip off

Went with friends for dinner - staff where very attentive and friendly, food was great and the portion sizes where large! We honestly wanted to order everything off the menu as it all looked and sounded really good.

The fish and chips were tasteless and the gluten free ones had very thick batter not a good start to a short break in Norfolk Staff were not making sure customers were scanning in

Very good meal. Staff were friendly & accomodating. Fish is fresh which unfortunately meant they didn't have my first choice but meant meal was delicious! Have a separate Gluten Free menu with a range of grilled/fried fish, meats etc. Price reasonable for the portions provided.

We were very thankful to have extra dairy free options offered for one of our group who has a severe dairy allergy. Staff were very friendly and polite. Food was tasty and well presented. Only criticism is it’s quite pricey for what it is.

Had a beautiful meal here this evening, was able to get two tables next to each other, nothing to much trouble they even put the heating on for us as we were cold. We come here every time we visit GY as it really is the best place for fish and chips and fresh fish (beautiful king prawns too) We’ve done Harry Ramsdens down the road and it’s not a patch on this place. The steak here is lovely too, you won’t be disappointed.

If you like under cooked chips mushy peas with no peas and chewy squid this is the place for you. It’s gone right down hill. Used to be really good not anymore unfortunately.

My family and I went in for a meal, we were welcomed and seated quickly but that is where it went wrong. We were then left for close to 40mins before an order was taken, 5 mins later some bread rolls arrived with butter but nothing to spread it with, within another 20mins the food arrived (great you think) but only 2 out of the 4 plates arrived, the chips were just barely cooked, no seasoning or condimentson the table. The remaining 2 plates only arrived 35 mins later after asking 3 separate people 4 times where they were. There was one lady working there that seemed to know what was going on (not the manager) and bless her she was trying to fight the fires of disappointment, bad service of the other employees and tetchyness of several customers but she couldn't do it alone. They did offer the price of 1 meal off of our bill after giving me another table bill first. They really need to raise their game of they're going to stay open.

We visit here every time we visit Yarmouth and this restaurant is always spot on the food is amazing and the staff are very friendly well done

An amazing restaurant with the sweetest girls working out front. Never anything too much. The chips are amazing, I don't know if they make them because they are too perfect but very tasty The fish was white and clearly fresh. Worth every penny

We stopped here while on a walk on the beach front. We had cod and chips with curry sauce it was lovely, decent portions and well priced. Reccomended if your in the area

After a trip to Norwich decided fish and chips beside the seaside and ended up here....was seated quickly even though quite busy....our starter arrived...garlic bread was delicious.....after a quite long wait our fish and chips arrived...plenty of chips but fish a little small for the price, but along with mushy peas it was all tasty..Restaurant is nicely decorated and toilets clean...staff friendly

Managed to get in without a reservation and was very busy due to the reduced occupancy due to Covid rules.The staff were friendly and efficient. We had the chicken, fish, scampi platter between us. There Wednesday and the service and meal was faultless usually go once a month and still waiting to have a bad experience .in fact it's about 30 miles from us and well worth the trip

We had takeaway from here and it was top notch! The lady serving us was so helpful and polite, nothing was too much trouble and her manners were impeccable. The food was cooked fresh to order which meant a little wait (but who cares if the food is fresh?). The chips were excellent, the sausage and mushy peas were lovely. All in all an excellent meal. Well done!

Didn’t have any expectations visiting this restaurant, but was highly delighted. The young waitress we had was lovely, very helpful, and pleasant. Food was very good, will definitely be visiting again.

Booked a table on the day we arrive in Great Yarmouth and arrived at venue 15 minutes early but still took an hour to serve our food and the restaurant was not busy when we arrived.Once the food arrived the battered fish was so dry and we also ordered the most expensive dish from the special board which was so over cooked and dry we left hungry and very disappointed.The cheek was, once we complained we was only offered a 10% discount which they already offer if you have been to a named casino. Do not order from the special board or eat-in as they the food maybe better using the take away service instead.Meal ruined a perfect day in Great Yarmouth.

Had a nice meal in , possibly the best chips ive ever had. Just a shame no masks or shielded areas made me a bit uneasy and might not of eaten here had i known b4.

Popped in here for a quick bite to eat...we all order medium cod and chips with curry sauce...then it turned up...huge!...very tasty great batter on the fish...staff were great nothing was a problem..highly recommended

We (3 adults and 2 kids) had an amazing family meal this evening at the Fish and Grill. Brilliant service and lovely food, can't wait to go back. You can even enjoy your meal with a beer! We were on holiday in Great Yarmouth when they opened, and it was great then and I'm delighted to say it's amazing now. Highly recommended.

Great sirloin steak, nice grilled fish, crap chips, and the most flavourless calamari and onion rings ever, made a 3/5. Perhaps to do with the fact they had no pepper in the whole place!?

Me and my boyfriend first visited the restaurant last year where the food was nice, yet it was clearly obvious some of the staff members were talking about us as they were constantly watching over us and sniggering whilst we were eating. We thought we would come again this year, given the benefit of the doubt, as we enjoyed the food but we were let down massively this time. There was no organisation, 1 girl running the restaurant - serving at the till, taking orders, pouring drinks, taking food and drinks to the tables, sorting bills then having to ‘tidy’ the tables that were finished with. When we arrived, we had to wait 5 - 10 minutes before we were seated by a member of staff from the kitchen. We had just been watching her through the glass, preparing and cooking food... raw chicken on a yellow chopping board? I think you need to get your staff educated in Food Safety in Catering. She then proceeded to take us to our seats, out the way round the corner, without washing her hands from the raw chicken. Taking into account the current situation, the tables were not spaced out accordingly and there were multiple dirty tables waiting to be cleared. After waiting another 5 minutes whilst seated, I then had to find the staff member for some menus. Our drinks came - advertised as Pepsi but being poured from a Coca-Cola bottle which must’ve been previously opened as it was flat as anything. Our food came, it was lovely, although we were not too sure on if it had been prepared in the correct way - I understand the take away side was busy but customer health and safety should be the main priority at all times. Towards the end of our meal, a lady came in and seemed shocked at the state of the place. No tables had been cleared, we did not witness any form of sanitisation of tables or chairs after use which made us feel even more on edge. The worst part of our visit was most definitely the fact that we were not asked to leave any form of information to comply with the government track and trace. I work in catering and hospitality myself and I know how important this is at this time. I feel like this restaurant could have so much more potential, however I can not see us returning in the future.

Came here tonight a a few people waiting for takeaway so thought may not have to wait long.after 20 minutes got to order waited waited the people in front of us got served when we asked how long we had to wait told 10 minutes waited asked again was told that they had still not cooked them yet. by then we asked to see the manager excuses was were busy new staff. but it came down to no organization and bad management had a bad experience previous. do not use this place only if you want to wait 2hours for a takeaway

Restaurant looks lovely inside and out but staff seem a bit cold and blunt when taking orders. Burger was dry and reminded me of cafeteria canteen style burgers, very dry and cheap. Salmon salad was plain and had no flavour. Fish cakes were nice but whist seemed to be takeaway level. Friend ordered a calamari burger as they’re vegetarian but when it came out it was calamari on top of a beef burger. Asked the manager who brought the menu over which made us feel as if we had to justify why we didn’t want it. Replaced it with takeaway cod and chips. No Becks available, no straws and no ice. J2O was warm, coke ordered was a 500ml bottle of coke. Very much style over substance. Looks very nice but definitely wouldn’t return, definitely don’t order any burgers.

The main fault with this restaurant was a lack of organisation, I feel by simply numbering the tables the staff would have had a much easier time tonight.Food and drinks were being taken to the wrong table constantly throughout the night, people being served first when they arrived last and an overall lack of understanding between the ladies on the dining floor made for a chaotic experience.The mixed grill was of a good quality however the chicken kebab was very bland and came with a dry pita, the onionrings batter was bitter and the chips not as fresh as you’d expect from a chip shop.The two ladies that I dealt with the most were fantastic, I believe one of there names was Monica and the other girl had colourful nails.We were also charged for someone else’s drinks, but the lady with the colourful nails sorted that out for us.

Very pleasantly surprised and impressed, at first sight this could be a mediocre seaside eatery, but the food was excellent, well presented, very tasty, and very reasonably priced. Don’t normally leave reviews but was so impressed I am leaving this one. Don’t pass it by. Fish and chips, ribs and garlic prawns all excellent.

Searched online for decent reviews to have fish and chips in great Yarmouth with the family. Had to order and pay on takeaway part then get a seat in restaurant.. waited well over half an hour which wouldnt have bothered me but they were horrible. Just not nice, fishy taste, fish had skin on too, curry sauce like water, no scraps, pay for ketchup.. £40 down but just wanted some nice fish and chips. Dont belive ths reviews on here!

Went here because of the good reviews. Without doubt some of the best takeaway fish and chips I have ever had. Large portions, freshly cooked, top quality cod. Not greasy. My son had the halloumi kebab and chips - he couldn’t manage to eat it all and said it was great foodHighly recommended

We only had takeaway chips, a medium portion and a kids portion. The girl serving was lovely, kept saying sorry that the chips were taking so long, we said we didn’t mind at all and it didn’t take too long. The kids portion was about the same size as the medium we had to share which is great value for money but unfortunately the chips themselves were terrible, somehow under and over cooked at the same time, dark brown and wrinkly yet hard in the centre and a really odd taste. We had a few each and had to bin the rest. The cans of drink were also expensive. Maybe just an off day but we wouldn’t return. However as said before the customer service was great.

Popped into Great Yarmouth on the lookout for somewhere to eat on a cold Monday evening in February. This restaurant stood out and we took a chance! So glad we did! Great choice and kids menu too. Billie served us, and was so friendly and helpful we already decided that we would give 5 stars! The restaurant is clean and spacious and food is generous, hot & well presented. Dessert didn't disappoint either! Would definitely visit again :)

Travelling in from Norwich on a very windy night, an enjoyable time was had by us both, early Saturday evening! We had a shared platter of assorted fish with garlic bread with cod and chips afterwards.If you've got a big appetite, this is the place to be :)We were told the fish is freshly cooked and you can tell!The cod in batter was especially delicious.The restaurant is nicely decorated and very clean, perfectly situated on the promenade where we could step right into the amusements afterwards. Lovely staff and with a smile, it makes a difference!On a cold, wet, windy Yarmouth evening, this place was busy with custom.We will return in the future but with a larger group of friends.

Visited today with my daughters, sisters and mum after a dark and gloomy afternoon on Yarmouth seafront. My sister who lives here was telling me how amazing the fish and chips were at Fish and Grill, to be honest I took it with a pinch of salt cause whenever people say that its normally a let down.Upon arrival the first thing to notice is that the premises really stands out. It looks very fresh, modern and clean and a bit of a beacon in its surroundings.As we were only planning on a quick stop we entered the take away side of the business and was greeted by lovely lady who invited us to move next door into the restaurant area.Once seated, the service was prompt, professional and polite, the two ladies that served us over the duration of our stay were very friendly and welcoming. Our food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering, it was nicely presented on the plate and certainly looked good.What really blew me away was the taste. The freshness of the fish combined with a light, thin, crispy batter was a joy. I've eaten a lot of fish and chips in my life and this is without doubt up there with the best (possibly the best).I have to say the whole Fish and Grill experience was a thoroughly pleasant one and we will most definitely be returning.

Came across this place looking for somewhere to go for an evening meal.Went round the side to the wheelchair access door, it was locked but staff spotted us and opened it up, they apologised for locking it down to the heavy winds, really was not a problem as they let us is quickly.Inside the restaurant is well set out and looks lovely.The food is very nice and also plentiful.It's a tad expensive compared to some places, so it's unlikely we would go there all the time, but we would definitely go back in future

Ate here with my son and his family from Warwickshire. Sceptical about it’s location as I have had many bad experiences with sea front restaurants.On arrival, the waitress moved us to a better suited table, without being asked. The gluten free menu was really a great surprise, it was very comprehensive, and well explained. Food was well presented and of a good quality. I asked for a blue cheese sauce for my burger, and was taken by surprise when the chef asked me personally, how strong I would like it !!!Both food and drink was good value, and I would and have recommended the restaurant to friends.Colin.

My wife and our friends went to the circus when we came out we went for something to eat we went into the fish and grill lovely food served by 2 lovely girls who could not do enough for us and at very good price

To start fairly, the food was good - or at least the hot food was. Coming from the Yorks Coast we know all about fish and chips and these were pretty decent.

While visiting my parents I always like to have some chips from the seaside as nothing tastes like them anywhere else. I wasn’t disappointed when we had some chips from here. They were freshly cooked and there was a generous amount. My husband and I shared a large potion. Would have them again when we come back.

We booked table well in advance but was not ready when we arrived on time.

They do great burgers at this place, I've used it a few times when I have visited Yarmouth. Good service and no waiting about either.

Called in before going to the hippodrome spectacular, ordered 2 x cod & chips to eat in place clean staff pleasant & best of all superb food, would highly recommend, deffo returning soon.

I have to say that this restaurant is a brilliant place to have fish and chips at any time of the year. It is spotless and clean, the staff are great , the food is done to a great standard and the prices are very reasonable.

Visited whilst on a weekend break to Great Yarmouth. The atmosphere was lively and very friendly. There was only a couple of free tables, so we new the food would be good. It was early evening and the restaurant was full of families. Service was prompt and polite. Wait for our food was minimal, fish, chips and mushy peas, piping hot when they arrived. The batter was tasty and crispy, the fish fell away in flakes. Delicious! The whole experience was so good, we returned the following evening and tried a steak from the grill. It didn’t disappoint. Would totally return and recommend this restaurant. Right on the front, overlooking the sea.

The food was very disappointing. The chips were soft and oily. The fish was dry & no flavour whatsoever. The calamari was just as bad as the fish. No flavour whatsoever & covered with oily unflavoured & soft batter

we recently visited the Fish & Grill as a group, the atmosphere within the restaurant is excellent and the staff could not do enough for us attentive, efficient and friendly. Came late on a saturday night, were sat quickly but service took a while to take our order...the food was nice however my chicken burger was meant to be marinated in garlic instead it had about 4 cloves of garlic chopped up and put on top? i wasn’t sure if i was being culturally ignorant? it was lovely once i scraped it off. My friend had a steak wrap and she said it was lush...would come again!

Came in about midday to get 2 portions of chips to go and a curry sauce (which we were overcharged about £2.00 for I might add) and the chips we were given were dried up and only warm!, we chose here because we've been before and it was decent then.

Looking for some steak when we passed here. Looked nice from outside and we were very happy we decided to eat here. Staff friendly and we all had steaks. Served with fresh onion rings, corn on the cob and salad. Average price £20

Great fish and chips especially when eaten sitting on the prom! Served by a very friendly local girl who loved her job. Recommended by the guesthouse stayed in, not disappointed.

Called in here whilst on holiday in Great Yarmouth for the week. Strolled down the front looking for somewhere to eat and thought this place looked nice. Friendly, welcoming staff were a credit to the business. I enquired about the bottled beers and the waitress brought me both types to the table so I could choose.
