Absolute disgrace.. the new owners are treating locals and regulars appallingly .. I’ve been watching England play in tournaments for 25 years I. That pub and tonight I can’t cos I haven’t got a wristband .. because someone else (not me) was unruly on Saturday …. hey folks .. if u have to find somewhere else to watch the match tonight like me .. perhaps we should watch future matches elsewhere as well … I was really happy when they opened the gate again but now I hope they go out of business!!!!!

All ages, but some of the younger element seemed to like arguing with each other, bar manager seemed to chuck people out that he thought were going to cause trouble. Bar staff excellent... didn't have food so can't comment.

Excellent. Spent a great afternoon in there with the family and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Great prices, fresh decor and they even suggested we bring in a takeaway from a nearby chippie when they explained that they didn't offer food. Will definitely be back.

Great pint of ale, superb friendly staff who were very helpful. Shame they do not do food but still a great pub. Nearly forgot a great beer garden a d play area for children.

We are locals and have seen this pub change hands several times in recent years, we are happy to say it’s a great place to go out for a drink and meet with friends, prices are reasonable and all the latest sports are on so do yourself a favour and pay them a visit.

We were visiting Caister on a mini-break and popped into The Gate for an afternoon. We found it to be a very hospitable pub, with excellent service and very clean facilities. Bar staff were all lovely, as were the customers. Our son enjoyed the beer garden, which was well-kept. We were also treated to some live music in the evening. A lovely afternoon spent at a lovely pub. Many thanks 😁

Good atmosphere to watch sports, families welcome. Was told it was a pub not a fancy bar when ordering drinks, asked for a raspberry lemonade!

This pub has recently reopened and is offering lots of entertainment. The evening we visited was very well attended and locals were clearly looking to support the pub. Although no food was available, the barman allowed us to eat takeaway food and was very helpful. When we visited it was karaoke night and visiting karaoke team were superb and the participants were keen to have a great night. However, the evening was ruined by a plank who was loud, brash and clearly under the influence of something. We left early as couldn’t stand it any longer as no one from the management team took action. What this place have to decide is whether they want to encourage a great atmosphere for all or allow morons to rule. If the latter, sadly this venue will close again.

Its currenrly under temporary management so they have no interest in it and it shows. Ive not been in for months and thought a Christmaa Eve drink in the village pubs would be nice but I wish we hadnt bothered. It was grim. Hardly any customers and could see why. It felt grubby. The seating was badly damaged ( battered upholstery) and tired tables. When I asked what wine they served, the server just pointed at some bottles which isnt helpful. There was no atmospher and quite frankly couldnt wait to leave. I hope the next landlord will make more of an effort.

A new landlord has taken over, and on our first encounter, they are very friendly and welcoming. Prices are very good as is the selection of beer and wine. Not sure if they are doing food yet. Worth popping in for a couple.

Ok since the takeover, think I'll need more time to adjust since this was my local for a long time before moving, but nonetheless the new owner seems very nice. Shame only one ale seems to be on tap, but still a good atmosphere from a good pub. Hopefully will open up the other room again soon, would be great to have some gigs or the like on again in the new year.

Sparse staff wise food average untidy and unkempt at the back wouldn't return

Went for a meal here last night and was so pleased with the food and the service. A shame we were the only 4 people eating,it deserves so much more. The lady who looked after us was amazing. Thank you so much.

Nice pub, nice garden, friendly staff, but no real beer- keg only.

We booked here because the reviews where good and we wanted steak. It was dog and kid friendly so booked a table for 6. We called about half an hour before to check we had been given a table that was dog friendly as we know not every table would be allowed dogs. We walked all that way but when we arrived we where warned that half the menu wasn't available as they had sold out. And they only had 2 steaks left. I was really annoyed. Why, when we called half an hour before, didn't the women warn us of the missing menu items? We would have cancelled and booked elsewhere. So we then struggled to find somewhere else. It made it very difficult as there where 6 of us, a baby and dog. We walked all that way for nothing.

We walk from Great Yarmouth to Caister and head for The Gate. What good food. We like salads in the hot weather and their offering is huge. The cheese salad comes with jacket potaoe and coleslaw plus a huge amount of cheese and fresh crunchy salad.we have tried the ham salad again generous with nice thick slices of ham.The tuna salad is also generous. Looking forward to trying roasts when weather gets cooler. Highly recommended. 👍👍😁

Came here for a relaxing meal out with friends and that was exactly what it was. The environment was great, the food was great, and the service was great. The staff were very helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The place was clean and we had a really lovely evening. This was our first visit and definitely not our last and I would recommend this place to everyone, it is a meal with an experience.

Some free parking is available. The steak, which we cooked at the table on a rock, was excellent. The staff were pleasant and efficient. Regretfully the premises were filthy, dirt and cobwebs everywhere, it all needs an effective clean.

After reading all the brilliant reviews on trip advisor we decided to book a table for the black rock as our normal black rock restaurant had closed down , positives are very friendly staff and food was very good , but the restaurant was extremely dirty , stained seating , dirty floors and the skirting boards looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months , there were piles of bean bags and general rubbish on the floor between the bar and the restaurant , husband used the toilets after the meal and advised I didn't use them as very dirty , such a shame food was lovely but was concerned how clean the kitchen might be if the restaurant and toilets were anything to go by , such a shame , could easily be corrected but unfortunately I will not be returning and cannot recommend, sorry

While on holiday in Scratby we were looking for somewhere to eat and came across The Gate. What a find! Lovely pub that does fantastic food. You can eat in either the bar or restaurant area although if opting for the On The Stone dishes you have to eat in the restaurant. Even though it was busy the wait time for food was minimal. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Will certainly be back when on holiday next year.

Visited tonight the steak was amazing and it was presented beautifully. Thoroughly enjoyed everything about it the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend.

Food god but service was a bit slow

Nice dog friendly pub, shame about the guy with no customer service and full of burbs, who seemed to be connected with the pub. Food looked amazing but chips slightly underdone by all accounts. The female staff were super friendly.

Great pub we just found other day,great steaks and dog friendly which really rates the pub. Vicky behind bar was lovely and friendly. Was quite busy poor thing on bar and then bringing out food. We will be back next time on holiday as come here every year.

Food was absolutely delicious, we went twice, sadly my husband had to send his beer back, the garden needs some real attention and the inside tho lovely furnishings needs a good clean particularly the front entrance and the side entrance near the restaurant and loo's

Just had an amazing meal at this lovely restaurant with my family and we left very full and impressed. The waitress was extremely friendly and the food was also tasty. The concept of cooking your own steak is great and highly recommended. We will definetly be back again.

We visited after a drive out looking for somewhere to eat while on holiday with my 14 year old sons. My one son and husband had steak which you cook on a hot stone at your table. I had Salmon which you also cook at your table and my other son had a generous sized burger. All meals were fantastic and reasonably priced and both my husband and son agreed they have never had a better steak . The staff were friendly and tentative. We couldn't have asked for more.

Good service, good honest pub food - we all had burgers so didn’t try the “signature” hot stone food, but were very pleased with the quality and service.

Very good value food with a pleasant environment and friendly staff. The choice was excellent with all the usual pub style grub and the seafood was as fresh as if it had just been landed! Children are well catered for and my two are a bit between kids menu and adult menu, no problem the staff sorted appropriate serving from the adult menu! Two visits in a week and the whole family was extremely pleased snd rather full! The only possible downside was the car park and the front door area needed tidying with glasses and cigarette doubts lying about but otherwise once inside absolutely brilliant. Thanks to The Gate staff for being so lovely and helpful.

Another great visit to The Gate for a lunch time burger and chips. I ordered a cheese and bacon burger and got a huge plate of food for less than £8!! The burger was a meal in itself but it was accompanied by plenty of chips and a large side salad. By far the best chunky chips ever!! Staff friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit, I would definitely recommend.

There were 3 of us that went here for a meal and drinks and I can honestly say Wow it was absolutely amazing. The food served is of top quality, well presented and delicious. The staff are on point, nothing is too much trouble and they always had a smile on their faces. Definitely recommend to anyone thinking of visiting. Highly advise booking a table as they were very busy.

Went to a friends birthday party. Lovely pub, very nice on the inside. Staff were friendly and happily fetched our drinks all night as it was a max of six to a table and because of social distancing we couldn't go to the bar to get our own drinks. Would definately go back and recommend for any sort of gathering.

Super service, despite covid i will go back

Exactly as expected. No frills pub food, cooked well. If you want to fill a hole with no fuss then I can reccomend 'The Gate'. The only negative was that the service was a bit slow, albeit very friendly though.

We booked a meal to have black rock tonight and it was absolutely amazing. The food was delicious, you couldn’t fault it. The service was 5 smiles all round! Nothing was too much trouble to any of the staff. The decor was great and felt warm, cosy and friendly. I drive past this pub everyday and am disappointed in myself that this is the first time I’ve been in it, this certainly will not be the last. We have already booked to come back next week. Thank you all for making our evening a perfect one!!! Ps the chips We’re amazing!!

A friend and I just had a fabulous lunch. We both had rump steak that we had to cook ourselves in The Black Rock Grill. Melissa and her staff were very friendly and welcoming. I recommend anyone to go.

We booked over email to go down to have a family meal. And was attracted to the lava rock hot plate dishes which allowed you to cook your own steak at your table. Due to have dogs we booked to sit out side. On arrival we found our seats out side and all choose what meal we wanted. With 6 out of the 7 people in the party wanting the Lava Rock hot plates. Which had attracted us to the pub. When we went to order the meals we were told that we could have the hot plates outside. With no real reason as to why. Which left us with only a limited bar menu. Of burgers and chips etc. Such a rule should have been highlighted when we booked. Or on the website. And explained when we arrived and were given the menu. Rather than letting us choose and then be told. All round a disappointing menu out. And felt bad for the rest of the family, as I choose the location. Bar food that we did have was only average.

We stumble across the gate pub whilst holidaying in Norfolk.We stopped for lunch and could not believe the quality of food, the lava stone cooking at you table is a brilliant idea the kids really enjoy it.The chips were amazing some of the best chips I've ever had. Also the barman (sorry didn't catch your name) had really good customer service skills and catered for all our needs. Well done the gate.

We sat in their gorgeous garden & had a tasty lunch with amazing triple cooked chips, so delicious. Baquettes plentiful with ingredients and side salad. All nicely presented & spotlessly clean everywhere with excellent social distancing measures in place.

Food in the steak on the stone was amazing - so much food amazingly cooked excellent value for money - would definitely recommend it! We all enjoyed it! I had the mix it up - yummy 😋
