I recently visited this café with a group of colleagues and left feeling quite underwhelmed. First off, note that they don’t accept card payments – it’s cash or bank transfer only, which was inconvenient in this day and age. Most of my colleagues ordered the halal breakfast, and while they all seemed to enjoy it, I was only in the mood for a light snack. I opted for cheese on toast with a Diet Coke. Unfortunately, from the moment we sat down, the experience was less than hospitable. The waitress had more of a matriarchal demeanor, briskly telling us to “wait at your table, and I will serve you,” without any real warmth or courtesy. When my food arrived, I was served four small triangles of toast with a very stingy amount of cheese – barely enough to cover the toast. I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a cheese shortage! Still, I decided not to complain and just started eating. After finishing one slice, I realized my drink hadn’t arrived. I went up to the counter to ask for it, only to be told, “Oh, it’s in the fridge,” as if I was supposed to know this on my own. At this point, the service was already leaving much to be desired, but I powered through. To top it all off, when I went to pay, I was stunned to be charged £6.45 – for two very basic slices of toast with barely-there cheese and a £1.80 “Diet Coke” (which turned out to be a Salaam Cola instead). Considering the quality of the food, the lack of service, and the overall experience, this was shocking. Needless to say, I won’t be returning, and I certainly won’t be recommending this place to others. £6.45 for what I got was nothing short of daylight robbery.
