I'd been meaning to return to this restaurant for ages and I wasn't disappointed. It was very busy on a weekday lunchtime but we didn't have to wait long for our meals. The pork sausage rolls were excellent - very big and they give you two. You get a choice of salads to go with them, all very nice. The vegetarian choices looked much more interesting than the usual vegetarian fare on offer. The portion size was good. The desserts looked fabulous but we didn't have either time or room for them, alas! I would definitely go there again.

This would be a really nice cafe and I would be leaving it a really nice review only I had such a wierd experience in there the other day. I'm sitting there quietly working on my laptop and a guy comes in and starts loudly talking about conspiracy covid denial stuff and then the lady behind the counter chimes in and soon everybody else in the place is enthusiastically joining in with the tinfoil hat stuff. Find out later the whole place is owned by a cult. Such a shame. Thought I'd found a gem. Won't be returning.

We got fish and chips take away from Whiterow Fish and Chips. We used to love this place back when it was Scallop Shell, some years ago. We only realised it had changed hands when we arrived, but we were willing to give it a chance since the menu looked similar (and they also had some nice looking cakes in the window, which, while it suggests a lack of focus on fish and chips, also made us think they might know a thing or two about food generally). We got haddock and chips, coleslaw, and a side helping of aioli. The fish was pretty poor - really lacking in freshness and im not even sure it was haddock (if it was haddock, it had started to decompose, because the texture was sticky and oily, unlike any haddock I have ever previously eaten). It comes skin on, which is fine (particularly if the fish had been fresh), but they hadn’t removed all the scales. So, for the fish, 2 out of 5. And this was expensive fish and chips - nearly £18 a portion. Oyster Shell (take away sister of Scallop Shell, which has since moved to Bath) sells outstanding fish and chips at about £13 à portion The coleslaw was also pretty terrible. Mostly mayonnaise, very little flavour, and the portion was tiny (£3 for a volume of about half an apple). The chips were stale and were tough as if they’d been re-heated. The aioli was inoffensive but kind of just tasted like mayonnaise. I did not detect any garlic in it (and, seriously, aioli isn’t just garlic mayonnaise -but if it had been garlic mayonnaise, I’d have been happy). I’d recommend to give this place a wide berth, unless you enjoy spending a small fortune on fish that isn’t very fresh and hasn’t been de-scaled, and stingy sides that aren’t very tasty.

Staff unable to cope with just a few customers - must be really ppor when they get busy! Food was cold by the time they'd made my coffee (waited 15 minutes) Other people complaining as well
