We went for walk to lake Buttermere and discovered this tearoom on the way. Such a cozy place serving great dishes and coffee. I had the lamb stew and loved it! Husband had a pie, that was great too! Alas, we were too full to try out the very tempting cakes or icecream.

We have called into this pub a couple of times over the years whilst doing a very long round walk. It is has a nice atmosphere and a good range of draft ales, as well as some different soft drinks. The pub seems to do a good trade in both drinkers and people eating. Lovely beer garden on a nice day, which luckily we had.

As we were staying at a B&B in the village we decided to book an evening meal after reading the excellent reviews and I have to say we were really disappointed. We were shown to a table in the dining room of which there was one other table of four guests .We were treated to a floor show of the waiter laughing and joking with them very loudly . My husband had the sticky chicken off the man menu of which he said the chicken was tough.I had the braised pork belly off the specials board and once again this was dry and very tough . My husband had ice cream for dessert which was fine.I had the warm chocolate brownie which was overcooked and crispy in places .As we don’t like to make a fuss we paid the bill and left but needless to say didn’t return the following evening .

A good stop for coffee and a cake, especially as there are no other cafes for miles. Next to the car park and a ten minute walk from the lake. Only issue was the the 2 lines of people waiting to use the 2 toilets inside, because the council charges 50p for the public ones. Sitting viewing a line of people waiting for the toilet is not my preferred ambience! Luckily the weather was reasonable so we sat outside.

Actually one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had, fresh food cooked to perfection with roast beef that melted in your mouth, very accomodating friendly hosts serving a group of 12 friends all at once, thoroughly recommended, beautiful..
