We have called into this pub a couple of times over the years whilst doing a very long round walk. It is has a nice atmosphere and a good range of draft ales, as well as some different soft drinks. The pub seems to do a good trade in both drinkers and people eating. Lovely beer garden on a nice day, which luckily we had.

A lovely pub. We came in a few times for drinks and once for a dinner. The portions were huge, so my partner had a kids meal one night! Some places have started to do ‘smaller plate’ options from the main menu where possible. However, the food was excellent, the staff were an absolute delight and the pub atmospheric. Thank you.

We came here three times during our week in Troutbeck. Firstly we came for late afternoon drinks in the beer garden on a rare sunny day and that was a lovely spot to sit and relax. Then we came for a light lunch - I had the cheese and apple chutney sandwich which was excellent and my partner wasn’t really hungry and just wanted a couple of slices of toast. That was no issue to the servers which we really appreciated. Finally we came for dinner and again it was very good, especially the Lancashire hot pot pie ! Friendly service and a comfortable place to sit for a while. My only negative comment was that on our last visit there was quite an overwhelming smell of wet dogs. The pub prides itself on welcoming dogs and that's fine but it is a fine balance with these things, especially in a place which is clearly making such a big effort to provide great food.

Definitely what they call a mixed experience. Came here on a Monday and it was so good we rebooked for Friday where our experience was not so good. But I cannot fault the staff and how issues were dealt with. On the Monday, seated at nice table in main bar. Hardly any ales on but the Windermere IPA was really good. Starters- Shetland mussels. These were outstanding and the sauce great to mop with the hunk of bread provided. Italian meatballs- very tasty in a smooth tomato sauce. Mains of rib eye, fish and chips, burger and veggie burger were all very tasty and no complaints at all. With drinks bill was about 160. Service great, staff friendly. Informed new chef and new menu. Friday we booked the same time and requested same table. The pub was far busier this time. But our table was prepared and we sat down and got our drinks bought to us. We sat for 15 minutes before we had to ask for menus. Starters this time - meatballs again but no where near as good as Monday., different look, taste and texture. Prawns pil pil with chorizo, tasty but incredibly small portion, mussels again - still good. Mains - I asked for the Jerk pork belly and asked if they could make it really hot. They did not disappoint. It was seriously hot. Game pie was really well received and massive. Two Shepherds pies were far too salty to the point of being inedible. But we were not charged for them and got 10% off the rest of the bill. Such a shame but I put it down to being really busy and not enough staff. We will be back.

Excellent place to eat,,had a fantastic meal here on 6th Feb, very good quality for a lounge bar meal, easily comparable to my local 2 x AA star restaurant… game pie was fantastic, the others had n the party enjoyed the pork, cottage pie and blade of beef, to couple that up with some lovely local ales and a good Zinfandel. The service provided by Tommy was first class, we didn’t have to get up from our table … drinks were brought to us as we needed them… All in All in top class place to eat, we will be back.

Lovely setting! Just such a shame the service and food are terrible. I’d come back and have a drink with those views but I wouldn’t be waiting over a hour to get food which was mediocre at best and have staff who either didn’t care...

Came in to see a friend and left with a warm contented feeling, the place is warm and cozy and very friendly, but spacious enough to not be overbearing. The food is excellent and it has to be the best burger on the island hands down, it’s huge, full of flavour and seriously tasty, highly recommend the village inn

One of the best pub Sunday lunches we've had in several years. The meat was succulent - and if you can't choose beef or port you can have half and half. The potatoes were crunchily roasted with soft interior. The Yorkshire puddings seemed a step above most pub versions being neither greasy nor, like so many places, perfect roundels straight from a freezer. There wasn't much green veg but the kale - normally not something I like - was salty and well prepared. Great with the beautifully prepared red cabbage. Big shared portion of cauliflower cheese included too, and - on request - extra gravy and really tangy horseradish. Frankly not much to criticise here and the desserts were brilliant too. We had heard someone say that the change of ownership a week or so back had caused a drop in standards but it's hard to believe that it was ever much better than this. Highly recommended.
