Here for the weekly quiz. Fish of the day prior was superb. Husband loved the scotch egg starter. Thank you for excellent food and service.

I booked a table for my wife's birthday whilst staying on the Isle of Wight. We came last year for Sunday lunch and liked the food so much we decided to come back. Food was brilliant, massive onion rings, and the staff were lovely. We felt very welcome and my wife commented on how we were treated as if they know us personally! We will be back when we are best over on holiday, thank you from the Webbs!

We really enjoyed this pub before COVID and returned the next time we were on the island. The food was oddly presented with my burger coming on a small board with a basket of chips, salad and a tub of coleslaw. It wasn't bad food, it just was awkward to eat as there was no space. There were 2 servers who failed to return with requested ketchup for my wife and who didn't come back to ask us if all was ok during the meal. This is not a pub where someone will take your drink and food orders at the table and fuss around you, everything is done at the bar. Prices are about average, £75 for 2 mains, 2 starters and drinks. What really miffed me though was that the website promised at least 3 different beers from the island. I always like to try different beers so it was a factor in our choice. They had Abbot, Speckled Hen, a beer from Ringwood and a beer from Courage. It was a disappointment

Driving around southern Isle of Wight, we stopped here for lunch. Plenty of parking, dogs welcome. Ideal stop off. Quirky interior with homely feel. Staff were good. Food was plentiful well presented and good quality. Not the cheapest place we have been, but then again not the dearest. Great stop off on our way to Godshill in the afternoon. Will go back

This Old public house, provided us with 2 nights of excellent food, which was plentyful and very satisfying. This is reputed to be the oldest pub on the Island, on our 1st night, it was an open mic night, and the music was just great, 2nd night it was transformed into a quite rural pub, but on both occasions the service and food was excellent. Well done to the management and thief hard working team.

I had the mussels as a main, they were tiny! Many empty shells also.. No one checked in to see if everything was okay after food was delivered to our table… My mums lamb came with new potatoes, which should have been served with chips. Lamb was tasteless… Very disappointing food, we are regulars here, and often dine here with friends, sorry we won’t be returning… many other places to eat out, where the food is much, much better…

Wouldn’t eat here again if you paid me. Food is tasteless, staff are challenging rather than helpful and the locals look at you like you don’t belong in their pub. Avoid if you want to spend your money on decent food eat literally anywhere else.

Sadly, we tried to have dinner with friends. The football happened to be more important than paying customers. Three of the items we tried to order were not available. The excuse given was “the chef is Ukrainian “ Disappointed as this used to be a great place to eat.

my family a few friends and I went in for dinner. When we tried to walk in the entrance we where told by customers to try another door as they where blocking the path by watching football ( we are thankful the customer was so polite about it ). However when we walked in sat down and went to go order they did not have half their items on the special menu ,even though they did not cross it off. This quite annoyed us as after we asked for one item they said they had none ,okay we said our next order said they have none left so we said, we were going to leave. Then the owner came over without telling us it was the owner and asked what was wrong we said exactly what happened. She went to the kitchen and came back and her excuse was, " the chef is Ukrainian". This is a joke we were trying to go out for a nice time, when we tried to go out the fire escape it was locked.If we where in an emergency, we would have been locked in.

Mushrooms on toast and calamari starters - really good especially the Mushrooms. Mains steak fries in sauce with cheese - divine. Lasagna too sauce heavy for my liking but tasted good. Definitely one of the best pubs on the island !

Popped in for lunch. The best homemade burgers we’ve had in a very long time. Good beer, lovely friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. We will be back!

Staying in Whitwell for a week - discovered this place on Day 1 and returned 4 times! Fabulous food, enormous portions and very good quality! Bream was amazing!

Hidden Gem! What a wonderful little find. Food is amazing the staff are welcoming and friendly. Cute building with a couple of lambs and rabbits in the garden area. All hidden away in the sleepy village of Whitwell. My new favourite place, hardly any people or traffic surrounded by country walks Perfect place to ground yourself whilst getting back to nature.

I was part of a party of 14 diners, we ordered separately and the majority of the meals came out at the same time. There was a problem with one of the meals which when highlighted was returned to the kitchen and a fresh replacement was cooked and served. They apologised and offered a refund for that meal as most of us had nearly finished ours. The food was tasty, the sevice excellent so will definitely be returning.

What a beautiful place had Easter Sunday lunch with my family while holidaying over there. Easter decorations, music , and staff all added to the atmosphere. Sunday lunch was amazing and plentiful all cooked to perfection.

I've eaten here before, and never had cause for complaint. On a Sunday, however, the "live music" comes into its awful own: the musician on this occasion could play a guitar all right, but the volume was pointlessly deafening. We left before dessert, because we couldn't face the racket any longer - you can't talk, or even shout, over it. It ruined a rare family reunion. Food - far too much of it, huge courses and inevitably some parts were better than others - the meat was good; vegetables present in too much profusion, parsnips and carrots too al dente (this isn't easy to get right, I know). If we'd known about the live music, we'd not have booked a table: no one was listening, or apparently appreciating it - personally, I just yearned for him to stop.

What a wonderful pub , great food and what fantastic staff . Made us feel so welcome and our dogs even more so Would highly recommend you visit . Having Ventured out from sunny Sandown we once again visited the white horse in Whitwell. We have frequented this venue three times in 2 weeks because the quality is so good. I wanted to check out the consistency of quality and it was exactly the same every time I visited.It was perfect in every way. Food, Ambience, the locals who welcome you there. They also have special evenings for entertainment, curry nights + a quiz. This equates to a perfect local pub which is missed in many places on the Isle

Clearly a popular local pub that also welcomes visitors. Had a great dinner there, live music, was an option that seemed OK but not quite my style

Fantastic night out - there were 10 of us celebrating a family birthday. The food was amazing, staff super friendly and the singer was just the right volume so we could all chat. I had the seafood chowder which was delicious and the couple opposite me shared the steak sharer which was huge! Highly recommend x

If you go to the Isle of Wight don't miss this fantastic pub, it's a must. Great atmosphere, the loveliest staff, amazing food. We had dinner twice and lunch once, the fish sharing platter was incredible, plenty for four so don't eat lunch! Meat platter was equally amazing, great quality meats, perfectly cooked, generous amounts and lovely sauces. The quiz night was fun and the live music was great. We will definitely be back!

We had a great double visit with friends in June 2022 and an excellent Saturday night dinner plus some entertainment and great atmosphere plus a handsome Sunday Roast in this very friendly pub. Nice choice of beers on draught so had to take a couple away with me to enjoy on the next leg of our trip. We hope for a return visit one day please !

Cosy pub with a real fireplace and excellent food! I had the venison pie! We accidentally found this pub coming from a long walk along the coast trying to find a bus stop nearby. The pub owners gave us a lift from where we could get back to Newport. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😃😃

I didn't eat they ,but the live music and atmosphere was amazing!

On arrival they had lost the reservation and we were told to find an empty table and sit wherever we wanted, even though most of them were reserved. With the roast meals, the neaps and stuffing were cold, the roast carrot and swede were both raw and the burger had avacado on when we asked for it to be left off. The waitress didn’t come back after we mentioned these and there was no apology. The pl,ace has some great reviews but on this occasion we were disappointed.

It was the first time we visited the White Horse. Fireworks night was fantastic, staff really friendly and the food was great.

Such a lovely and welcoming place with so many visiting dogs to liven the place even more. Staff were so keen to help but it was welcomed. Can't recommend it highly enough

Superb Sunday roast, beef was amazing. Easy parking, good food, good service, and good value.

Initially called in for a drink and snack but were so impressed we booked a table for the following night and went back. The portion sizes and quality of the food make the cost worthwhile. Really nice atmosphere, would definitely recommend.

Don't want to be too harsh as we went for lunch pretty much as soon as they opened that day. Quite expensive, portions were quite small, cooked breakfast was fine but the coronation chicken sandwich bread was stale and and a bit sad. A coke and a lemonade and lime cost £8, which seems quite steep.

Have been here three times mainly because my family like it, but to me very disappointing after reading reviews, chicken wings in honey garlic and soy sauce the outstanding flavour is simply soy sauce!, mushrooms with herb and garlic sauce came in what I can only describe as white soup thin ,watery, not like a sauce at all Roast dinners are ample but you need too order in advance too visit as they run out Dinning room is like a small barn open plan no nooks or enclosed tables. As I say family like it so above is my sole observation

Another fantastic meal. Have had the seafood platter before, so good. Today we both had prawn and crab salad, it was the best we have had for a long time. Lovely atmosphere with very friendly staff.

We visited yesterday and were delighted with the ambience, service but mostly the Sunday lunch !! The meats were fabulous the portions size generous !! Just lovely !

Great atmosphere, good food!! We were on a weeks holiday in Whitwell and our hosts recommended the White Horse Inn for our whole week of evening meals, and that choice couldn't have been better!! Excellent menu, good food, generous proportions, good atmosphere, great choice of beers, friendly and efficient staff---and what made our 7 evenings dining at your pup REALLY special was the fact that you had lit candles on the tables! This may sound like a small point but it added so much to our experience. THANK YOU. Also--great music from the talented artist who sang like Eva Cassidy ( we wish we knew her name--she sang on an evening of around 23rd September--we hope a scout from a record company visits your excellent pub to give her a recording contract!). Been visiting the White Horse for many a long year, its had it's ups downs but on our latest visit I'd say it's, very much, up! Food and drink excellent! Staff likewise! We were seated in the room which used to house a pool table, it's been moved elsewhere and with new pub furniture the place has been transformed into a very nice room. Eight of us, all family, enjoyed a very laid back Sunday lunch, exactly as Sundays should be, we don't get together very often so it was time to catch up. If I had one small criticism it was the live music that accompanied our visit, we found it a bit intrusive, especially for us deaf ones,

What an absolute gem! Very friendly welcome for us and the dog. Food was plentiful and very tasty and we’re looking forward to visiting again before we leave. As an added bonus we met a lovely lady called Dot? who entertained the dog whilst we ate. Couldn’t ask for anything more. The puddings looked amazing but unfortunately we didn’t have room.

We had a delicious Sunday lunch with our visitors this week portions very plentiful very fresh veg and the roast beef had apparently been slowly cooked overnight and was melt in the mouth gorgeous.fabulous cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire puds.the staff were only young but trained expertly.we also had a lively puppy who was also very welcomed we will definitely be back

This pub is an absolute Gem, the food is amazing! The service from all the staff is way above average, genuinely nice people. Myself and my Mum have already said we go back tomorrow night, also considering it for Xmas. If you like great food...

Amazing pub, we went for a family meal 10 of us, the food was amazing home made, my daughter and nephews loved the out doors play area with the rabbits. Also dog friendly, that was great for us. Can't wait to go again when I'm over to see family xxx

We ordered the fish fingers For our 6 year old daughter which wasn’t fish fingers in the slightest, weird tasting batter. We had the beef patty burger with fries and suppose to come with a side of coleslaw im assuming that never come on the...
