Wandered in by accident and ended up staying for ages! Had Coffee (they use Atkinson's of Lancaster) and cakes, and chilled out on the comfy couches having a catch up. Staff very friendly and helpful, really relaxed atmosphere!

I had my reservations about going to The Tea House at 23 Cannon Street Preston as several months ago we had problems! All our food then had been delivered at different times! But as our friend whose birthday it was requested we go there for our lunch I was prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt. Bad move! The only good thing this tea house is good for is its amazing selection of teas and the occasional cake! They originally started out with teas and a snack menu and over time expanded to an overly ambitious menu! Our starter which was only garlic bread took almost 15 minutes. Then our main course arrived extremely late. 1 plate was boiling hot, 2 of the meals were luke warm and the final plate was cold and tasteless. The roast potatoes were almost black and burnt so we asked for them to be replaced with mash. Those arrived luke warm and some cold. When we first arrived at the restaurant on Saturday 11th November it seemed warm and inviting. We were sat close to the door which opened out onto the street and we would get blasts of cold air as people went and came. I believe the temps outside were 9 degrees centrigade and very cold! Worse half way through our meal we began to feel the cold more! Then we realised why the restaurant had switched off their heating!!!!!!!!!!!! The overpriced food and drink did not warrant being subjected to sub temperatures. We stupidly ordered their cakes for dessert and once again were extremely disappointed. At the end of the meal I spoke with a very young manageress who insisted our food was tested with thermometers. I've never heard such a pathetic excuse! She also said she was training 4 staff and yes the menu was over ambitious as I told her it was obvious they could not cope with the numbers! We asked for a reduction for the disastrous meal to which she said she needed to go and check it out with someone. Probably the owner! She came back and offered us each a choice of a 30g bag of tea which I found extremely insulting! I told her we would never come here again! The last few days I've been full of a cold and can only put it down to the sub temps environment I had to endure in the tea house!

Bernadette & I called in for a "Light Lunch" after we had been performing on Preston Flag Market" Our first visit to The Larder. We were made very welcome - the food was marvellous - far outweighing our expectations. The place has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Well done I can honestly say - never, in my 68 years, have I had a baked potato, served to me, that looked so appetising.
