Lovely lunch and a warm welcome at this hidden gem just off the high street. I enjoyed the quiche from the specials board and the homemade cakes are a must - we couldn’t resist once we saw them being delivered to another table!! Good atmosphere and definitely worth a visit.

Visited this store today with my sister. We waited patiently to be served, after a 10 min wait we started to placed our order with the female member of staff i handed her the toasted sandwich to heat up,she just took it off me without saying a word. I then asked for 2 coffees one skinny latte and 1 soya then a male member of staff started to make the coffees in large glasses until I stopped him and said, I'd like small ones not large thankyou, we were not asked what size we'd like and it had already been put through the till as large, that was the first mistake. The toastie arrived and the female just literally threw it on the tray without saying a word.My sister said that's rude what you've just done, and you've never even said please or thankyou right through that transaction. My sister said we would like a refund as we don't feel you deserve our custom, your very rude to which the male then said to my sister stop shouting. My sister is partially deaf and does speak loudly but wasn't shouting,I was shocked by his comment, he should have just tried to defuse the situation at that point not defended the female member of staff. She shouted over the male member of staff, I said sorry didn't I but it wasn't sincere,he then proceeded to do the refund.I worked in retail for 19 years for a reputable company and customer service was at the the for front, also my sister works in whiston hospital in the restaurant and the same applies there, looks like costa don't seem to think so, the staff definitely need afew lessons in customer service. We will definitely not be visiting that branch again!

Every time I go here something else has moved, the new layout makes no sense (other than the fruit and veg being moved to the front) and the staff have no idea where everything is either. At one point they had a lot of alcohol displayed at the front as you walk in, shouldn't that be in the back of the store? It's a chaotic mess and is stressful for someone who is autistic, I just want to get in and out as fast as I can because it's always super busy here and people are always in the way or push in front of you to pick up something. There was also one time when I arrived super early to avoid people and the self scanners weren't available to use, when I got to the till, the cashier didn't ask if I had a club card, and because I was so used to using the self scanners I forgot all about it, so I ended up paying the full price. Because I'm not great with any social situation, I felt awkward to mention it and just accepted it as a mistake I made, but shouldn't they ask before you pay? Or is it one of their tricks to get you to spend more money? I've also stopped bothering with meal deals (especially now that the price has gone up yet again), because a lot of the time you don't notice that the deal didn't go through until you go to pay, and when I mention it to the staff, they check it for you and say "oh this item isn't part of the deal" and when I go back to pick up something else, the item that wasn't part of the deal is displayed as part of the deal.... What?! Again, I feel like this is another trick to get you to spend more. I have noticed there is also an issue with a lot of food expiring within one or two days, such as bread, potatoes and other goods. There's no point in spending money on food that will go bad in such a short amount of time. There's always homeless people outside begging for money, but they take turns in doing so, they're never there at the same time. One has a fancy, white electric bike which is suspicious, and there's always people smoking near the entrance and clogging up the area as they wait for a taxi. In the meantime, I've been shopping at the Tesco Extra in St Helens, and it is so much more quiet and relaxing there, they have some interesting things that this Tesco doesn't have and the best by dates are way better, no idea why. Also, the staff are actually really friendly there compared to this one, they acknowledge you and say goodbye to you with a smile on their face.
