Amazing salad boxes and flat breads including feta and red pepper with a balsamic glaze and salad. Beautiful homemade cakes and fab breakfasts to take away

Great find! Good selection of drinks, amazing beer garden, a real sun trap. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and would definitely visit again.

Great parking close by. Access has lots of steps to negotiate with suitcases. Friendly reception staff. Room was lovely. Contemporary feel with a massive bath and lovely shower with nice toiletries. Plenty of hot water and fluffy towels. Tea/coffee tray very good. Noise from people entering and exiting pub was noted. Luckily, the noise stopped by 11pm. Room was very hot. Could not open sash windows easily. Electric fan noisy and very dusty. Lots of road noise. Barnard castle is a lovely, busy little town. Pub staff were lovely. Unfortunately, food had stopped being served at 4pm on Sunday, when we arrived. Looked nice, though.Breakfast was nice, plenty of choice. Oat milk and gluten free toast was available on request. Salmon and scrambled eggs on toast were really nice, but toast was dry without spread or butter. I did not ask for dairy free spread, which was my fault.Waitress was a bit grumpy, but we were very happy with overall experience for a one night stay

We have been to the Fox & Hounds many times over the last few years and once again we found it to be absolutely fantastic with a great range of lovely food - this was one of the last times that we managed to get away with our boxer dog as she died suddenly in July but we will definitely be back again In May 2024 with hopefully a new boxer puppy. We returned in May 2024 with Ruby our new boxer and as ever the food and beer were fantastic.

As my girlfrend and I walked in we were a bit surprised that the lady didn’t look up / acknowledge us or say hello or even ‘please wait I’ll be with you shortly’ etc. I thought she must be busy so didn’t think too much of it. We waited a few minutes until the people in front of us got their order and left. By this point we were at the front of the counter and another lady worker walked in, again, didn’t say hello or acknowledge us. We both thought this was very weird and quite rude. Not even acknowledging our presence never mind saying anything. We waited another few minutes. I was trying to make eye contact with the ladies as if saying “helloooo we are here we exist!” but they didn’t even look up from what they were doing and when they did they looked past us. After 5 minutes we both thought that if the staff can’t even be at the least courteous what’s the rest of the establishment going to be like. We walked out and went to the next coffee shop and got immediately sorted there.

This place is like Faulty Towers run by Ken Dodd, inside the bar looks like they have been ransacked and probably hasn't been cleaned in a while, however Paul the landlord is completely bonkers and hilarious, if you love banter and are not offended easily then please visit, we spent hours here talking to Paul and some locals and laughed from the minute we got there until the minute we left, we will definitely be visiting again.

Jill runs the most amazing cafe. Her smile and determination to make the experience a memorable one is unquestionable. She is the kind of employee any employer could only dream of. She is highly professional and she cares. Rare and deserving of anyone taking the time to write a review.

I love old traditional English pubs, the Royal George is certainly one of them. The landlords were lovely, very welcoming. I am amazed how reasonable the prices are and the quality of the food, the care given to the cooking, presentation are. We had a lovely lunch and enjoyed ourselves a lot. This place is a hidden gem which we will visit again soon.

Maybe one should never return to a place and expect it to have the same magical experience that you had on previous occasions. No open log fire, no friendly’ customer comes first’ attitude. Missing items from ordered food. Noisy kids running around,( to be fair I can’t blame the management for lazy parenting) Sorry for such a poor review, this place may suit some but we won’t be back.

So we set off in our normal route from Fife down to Caister. We do this trip three times a year and always use over the A1 or go via glasgow down the motorway. This time we asked the satnav and it took us down a new route to avoid traffic, after about three hours driving, we felt a bit peckish and took a chance on a little side road that said hot food my goodness if there’s a jewel in the crown of long journeys Thorpe farm is it, fantastic surroundings amazing food and very tentative staff. And the icing on the cake? a shout out Has to go to the chef !!everything is homemade no store bought corporate re heat here, this is triple cook chips, home-made burgers, a full restaurant menu just an amazing find. It pains me to tell everyone about it because now you’re going to use it lol, like I said we travel down to England three times a year this is our new route and this is a mandatory stop both going down and going back home 10 out of 10

Visited first time after lock down (I believe it’s opened under new management) on a Saturday afternoon. Booked a table for food and glad we did as it was very busy. The service was slow but this was mentioned on our arrival as they were under staffed and didn’t predict how busy it would be. However, the atmosphere was fab (lively, sport on the TV and a range of music was been played) and at the time we hardly noticed the wait between drinks and food! We ordered three different meals (Yorkshire Pudding, Cheeseburger and chicken and cheese baguette) portions were huge (for £6.95 each) and delicious. Lager and cider were reasonably prices too. Hopefully the place gets a well needed refurb under new management as it is the only negative - but I appreciate the pub has just recently reopened and Rome wasn’t built in a day! We’ll definitely be back.
