As my girlfrend and I walked in we were a bit surprised that the lady didn’t look up / acknowledge us or say hello or even ‘please wait I’ll be with you shortly’ etc. I thought she must be busy so didn’t think too much of it. We waited a few minutes until the people in front of us got their order and left. By this point we were at the front of the counter and another lady worker walked in, again, didn’t say hello or acknowledge us. We both thought this was very weird and quite rude. Not even acknowledging our presence never mind saying anything. We waited another few minutes. I was trying to make eye contact with the ladies as if saying “helloooo we are here we exist!” but they didn’t even look up from what they were doing and when they did they looked past us. After 5 minutes we both thought that if the staff can’t even be at the least courteous what’s the rest of the establishment going to be like. We walked out and went to the next coffee shop and got immediately sorted there.

Quirky with a re-cycled theme. Several room with seating a little cramped and one right next to the toilet. The home baking looked very good in the window and was mostly fresh. Good coffee. No private parking but plenty available on the main street. Some steep stairs to the lower room. Staff friendly and prices fair.

Lovely little find in Barnard Castle. You can’t beat an independent coffee shop. The staff were lovely and very sweet towards my daughters. I had the most delicious cannoli and the kids throughly enjoyed their hot chocolate and cookie. Lovely atmosphere accompanied by kind staff and tasty food!

We were surprised how few cafes there were in the town and were so pleased to find this lovely place. The staff were really welcoming and efficient and the food was really tasty, with generous portions and reasonably priced.

Visited here this morning for a coffee and a scone. Both were excellent, we enjoyed it so much we returned later in the afternoon. The cafe is situated in a really old building which oozes with atmosphere, especially downstairs where there is an old range and vaulted ceiling. Music is great and staff good. Will be back on our next visit to Barnard Castle.

Stopped for lunch on a Monday. We weren't expecting the stunning cellar seating. Sandwich/Toastie were very tasty and well presented. Coffee was good and they offered dairy free options. Social distancing measures were good. Unfortunately we were a bit cold when seated and could have done with some heating downstairs.

Visited this cafe on a recent trip and was really impressed. We had oat milk flat white coffees, avocado and spicy beans on homemade toasted bread followed by scones with jam and cream (vegan of course!) and it was all delicious. On top of this, the service was excellent. Can’t wait to be back.

An excellent meal as always, and good range of teas. Returning to eating out at this time, I was very reassured by the standard, seating space, and service. I can vouch for the toasties, which I had this time, the organic bread also, and of course the home baking. Thanks Moments!

Having done a circular walk in the area we were looking for a place to have a coffee and snack. This place was really different very old building with different rooms to sit in. The girls are helpful and efficient. The sandwiches came quickly and were good value, you can create your own from a good range of fillings. The coffee was ok although I do like it a little stronger. Dogs are welcome too.

I was lured by the size of the scones but the coffee was the superstar. After a week of road tripping and surviving on petrol station and pub caffeine it was a treat to get a really good one! Locally sourced too!

Excellent!Such a lovely little place, friendly services and good food, so good in fact we returned the next day for lunch. To be told that everything in the cake display is vegan bar two items is a dream come true, we were spoilt for choice The chocolate cake was the best chocolate cake I’d ever had in my 3 years of being vegan. It was so light and tasty. On the second visit we had lunch of nachos and a bean toastie, again both fresh and delicious.Highly recommend this little gem of a place if you’re visiting Barnard Castle

We've wanted to visit Moments for quite a while and when staying in the area recently we ordered a takeaway lunch. As one of us is gluten free and the other diary free it's always very hard to find places that cater for us, however Moments is the exception and the owner was so helpful beforehand with the many questions I asked. We had a delicious soup, with cheese scones (one gf, one df) followed by carrot and orange cake. It was a long time since going df that I'd had a scone and it was fantastic. I also bought a fruit scone to have later which again did not disappoint. The owner is an amazing lady and baker and we would thoroughly recommend a visit. We also went back the next day for delicious coffees and more cake !

First impression, cute little cafe. Ordered 5 toasties including one for a child. Coffees arrived, waited 30 minutes still no sandwiches. When we asked about it, told the order had not gone through, said she would do them ‘now’ but carried on going up and down the stairs clearing tables. We cancelled our order lady apologised but didn’t actually look at us when apologising, got a refund for the sandwiches and left.

I've been before and had decent coffees, which were served relatively quickly, but I went in yesterday and it took 20-25 minutes for one latte and a standard tea. There were staff flitting about but none of them were attentive. Tables were messy, again staff seemed to ignore this and just wandered about. My coffee was extremely bitter (even with 6+ sweeteners). I sipped for a bit then gave up. Horrible! The only saving grace was the cinnamon swirl - delicious little bite for only 95p! Won't be returning, coffee was awful tasting and the wait time was unacceptable for a well-staffed cafe.

We were served by a pleasant young lady on arrival. Ordered cheese scones and coffee. We can't understand why cheese scones should taste sweet as they are surely a savoury item. Coffee was poor/average. Facilities should include electric hand dryer or paper towels, not a cotton towel to be shared by ALL users.

Called onto the Moments Cafe on Saturday for a coffee and ended up with a scone each too - both delicious and it's great to see the reuse of glass jars for the jam and cream for the scones. No plastic!! very much appreciated.

Situated on the main street opposite the Market Cross, we were drawn into Moments by the delicious looking scones, I can confirm they taste just as good as they look. Super coffee and tea to accompany our food served by a very nice young lady. The menu had many tasty treats along with soup, sandwiches and toasties. The blackboard showed they have Vegan options. Will definitely return to sample lunch on our next visit, now looking forward to another trip to Barnard Castle.

We stood at the counter while the staff member ignored us and did 'stuff' behind the counter, after a time she wandered off. We would have waited if she had the wit and basic client service to acknowledge us, so we went to Penny's nearby and had a great meal with great service there.

Accidentally ended up ko this lovely, quirky little cafe after being totally Overlooked in a cafe further up the street. Greeted by a friendly lady who pointed us in the direction of the seating area. Our order was taken promptly and arrived quickly. Large pots of tea arrived, enough for more than 2 decent sized cups. I ordered a chocolate orange cup cake and my husband had a cheese scone, both were very nice. The place itself was really interesting having a basement seating area which was very cosy looking. All in all a lovely place with reasonable food. My only criticism would be that there wasn't a larger range of cakes to choose from.

Decent coffee and cake let down by the toastie, cheap ham, sliver of cheese, hardly any chutney and cheap bread! It wouldn't have taken much more for a proper toastie!

Having walked miles with my two dogs I just wanted to chill and have something to eat. Spotted Moments, the display of cakes looked inviting and the bonus for me, it’s dog friendly. Good food at a reasonable price. I sat in the basement which was very quirky and good to chill out on big comfy sofas. Really enjoyed it, thank you.

We weighed up which coffee shop to go in based on the menu and appearance through the window. We chose the cheaper one which looked nice too. So glad we did! It was lovely; food ambiance and friendly staff. Our only regret was not bothering to find a table downstairs. We took a look once settled on the ground floor and recommend any visitors to go into the cosy, cave like cellars and take a comfy sofa. One part was a den for children, equipped with toys. Brilliant!

Been here a few times for a cuppa . They do a lovely skinny latte and a lovely cuppa tea. Homemade cheese scones are delicious as are the carrot cupcakes . It's really quirky inside everything seating and decor wise has been upcycled so it's basic but still cosy especially downstairs in the cellar there's nice leather sofas and an armchair to sit in and chill out reading one of the books available. There's also a children's corner down there with things for kids to play with while mum's meet for a chat. Staff are lovely really helpful and friendly . I will keep returning

Nice staff and good food. I had lovely pea and mint soup with hot fresh buttered roll. Delicious. priced at £2.25 it was excellent value. There were other snacks on offer, pizza with chips, savoury tart with chips ( i think) or salad which looked rather tasty. The cafe itself is very plain but welcoming and the prices certainly very reasonable. An added bonus was, well behaved dogs are welcome. I will be paying another visit when in Barnard Castle and thoroughly recommend this cafe.Bon Appetit!
