Fox and Hounds in County Durham

We have been to the Fox & Hounds many times over the last few years and once again we found it to be absolutely fantastic with a great range of lovely food - this was one of the last times that we managed to get away with our boxer dog as she died suddenly in July but we will definitely be back again In May 2024 with hopefully a new boxer puppy. We returned in May 2024 with Ruby our new boxer and as ever the food and beer were fantastic.

Lovely meal in a friendly pub which is dog friendly and provides a great service! Can highly recommend the cream cheese chicken.. and the chips were to die for.

We found the Fox and Hounds by accident while looking for a place to eat near where we were staying. This was a real delight. Set in a beautiful village on the way to Barnard Castle. The food was excellent. I loved the cheese, mackerel and hazelnut pate. Lovely fish a chips and a delicious gratin. Great wines and some delicious beers and ciders. Really friendly staff just topped off a wonderful experience all round. Quiz question - how many pairs of glasses can you spot while sipping your drinks?

Good ambience. Popped in for a quick drink one evening. Booked evening meal for a few days later after seeing the menu. Was not disappointed. The food wAs delicious with generous portions. . Nice ale too

We were holidaying near Barnard Castle and read about The Fox and Hound online. We were celebrating a wedding anniversary and we had a wonderful time. Lovely, hot food with generous portions - with vegetables in separate tureens - so wonderful that the veg was included with the meal orders when oftentimes it has to be purchased separately! The staff were friendly and attentive and we would certainly return!

My daughter booked for Sunday lunch as we were stopping near by , 5 star Sunday lunch, all lovely and fresh and piping hot , staff so friendly , and it’s dog friendly aswell which was good for us , you do need to book but it’s so worth it .

There was 17 of us came for our Sunday lunch. Service was fantastic and the Sunday dinner was lovely couldn’t fault it at all. The staff were really nice and helpful. Would 100% recommend this place.
