They do a great coffee, lovely fresh food and the staff are nice. Always enjoy my visits there. Would definitely recommend.

Came here for Sunday dinner and thought it looked like a nice place. Was a little worried when we saw just a handful of people there at 1.30 on a Sunday. Firstly, the young staff were lovely and friendly but appear to need training. This obviously isn't their fault but the management/ owners. Next the starters were not bad , but with only a choice of four I'd expect better. Onto the main course , we had the lamb shank ( which was nice and pretty hard to mess up) there was a red cabbage puree which just didn't add anything to the experience, with cabbage( undercooked) and carrots which were nice as boiled carrots go. Then the big problem, roast potatoes. This is a key part of a Sunday dinner, especially if you're not serving mash with it. As soon as we saw the potatoes we knew they were old , reheated or just badly cooked. We tried them and they were like rubber. So we told the waitress and she quickly sorted some more. These looked pretty much the same condition ,except that now they looked and tasted like they'd been given a quick 2 minutes in the deep fryer in vegetable oil to "liven " them up. On paying the bill I felt I had to mention this to the waitress and all she could say was " I'll pass that onto the chef" Again, probably not her fault, simply poor training and standards by the business. We didn't have dessert and won't be returning.

I like this place; I’ve been here before, when I ordered a scone, asked to have it warmed and it came to me toasted - bizarre. Today I ordered orange juice (no ice), almond croissant and a flat white. The orange juice arrived loaded with ice cubes, the croissant was a plain one, not almond. The two were replaced by the correct order when I pointed out the error. Why are croissants served on little plates? They look pretty when they’re intact; after that all hell breaks loose. The servers in this place should think more intelligently, listen more attentively.

Went here for one of their weekend evenings where they do pasta and pizza. We started with focaccia followed by pizza and gnocchi and then cheese. All were delicious and plentiful. We completed with a bottle of their Polish red wine which was light, easy drinking and went well with the food. Service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive and friendly. All this in the usual O’kende relaxed style.

Have been a regular visitor to Moore's garden centre and Gilmores cafe for several years. Recently the quality and overall presentation of the food served at the cafe has sadly deteriorated. Ordered two poached eggs and mushrooms on toast yesterday (19.05.2024) and a sausage and egg cob. The food arrived and the mushrooms weren't on the toast, they were on the plate with the cob and a tiny portion. 8 pieces of sliced mushrooms which were cold. Poached eggs were very undercooked, the egg white barely cooked resulting in a soggy horrible mess on the toast. It was inedible as the eggs were raw. There were several breakfast orders being delivered to the wrong tables despite the tables having numbers on them. Overall it was a shambles. Used to be so well managed and the food piping hot and presented well but not anymore. Worst breakfast I have ever had. Cooking eggs correctly is basic food hygiene. The new menu may look appealing, whoever is doing the cooking isn't doing a very good job. Had the eggs benedict a few weeks ago and that wasn't great either. They need to visit Matlock garden centre, breakfast is superb, piping hot and presentation is very good. What has happened to the good old days of piping hot food, omelettes presented with lovely salad etc.
