This is the best sushi in Belfast. A fantastic restaurant turning out amazing food time after time. It is a 20 mile round trip for me to get my food but so worth it.

Great sushi. Probably the best anywhere in Ireland. The chicken katsu tempura sushi rolls are a personal favourite. However, all that was spoiled when we ordered dessert. We ordered the Japanese purin, which is basically a European flan. When they brought it out, it was a block of ice. Clearly they freeze them and defrost as and when needed. When I informed the manager of this he shrugged and said “That’s how it’s supposed to be” in a rather sheepish manner. It was obvious he knew they weren’t defrosted but decided to lie and act as though we didn’t know what we were talking about. When we were persistent, he went to the kitchen and sent the chef to speak to us. The chef, much like the manager, didn’t want to admit his mistake and also made the decision to say that’s how they’re supposed to be served. He, however, quickly changed his tune when he realized he couldn’t pull the wool over our eyes and eventually apologised. Which is more than what the manager did. The chef offered us some “soft” purin, which we declined as dessert was already spoiled by the extremely tense, awkward atmosphere the manager had created. Moments later, the manager popped his head around the corner and said “Do you want ice cream, free of charge?”. Again we declined for the same reasons as before. When I went to pay the bill, the manager hid it under a mound of mints and quickly busied himself getting the card reader ready. Luckily, I checked and he was still charging us for the dessert which we sent back! When I told him about this he grumbled and turned back to the register to remove the dessert from the total without as much as a “sorry”. His general attitude made it seem like he felt we were stealing money from him. That we were just an unnecessary inconvenience to his day. Quite frankly a very unprofessional individual. An apology would’ve went a lot farther than a “free” dessert (which he seemingly intended to charge us for anyway). Mistakes happen and it’s understandable to be a little embarrassed about sending out frozen food, but you take responsibility for it and offer an apology. You don’t lie and treat your customer like they’re stupid. Would I return? Yes Would I order dessert? No Does the manager need to work on his attitude? YES.

Upon a friend’s recommendation, I visited Sakura Cuisine, one of the earliest establishments on Botanic Avenue. This restaurant has been in Belfast for many years. My favourite dish here is the Hell Seafood Ramen – the broth is rich and flavourful, and they offer homemade Hell Chilli Sauce, with the level of spiciness adjustable to your taste. The sushi tray is another highlight here, making it a great spot even if you’re dining alone. The atmosphere here is excellent, and the service is thoughtful and attentive. I also love the background music they play in the restaurant – every visit feels like a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds.
