Kamakura Sushi & Ramen Restaurant in Belfast

I used to like this place but it got worse. The waiter was ignoring us for a long time. Chicken in my ramen was dry and overcooked. Curry katsu was lacking taste. The waiter overcharged our bill and we had to point it out. Overall a mediocre experience

Missing item! I noticed my drink was missing, so I called up to see if they could send it for me, the man said that he forgot to add the drink in and that they would deliver it right away. After 30 minutes the drink was still not delivered so I called again to check where it was. A different person answered, and she said she couldn't see I had ordered a drink, then proceeded to swear she had included it in the order. She then said she would ask the manager for advice, and put the phone down unexpectedly. I tried to call back a few more times and no one answered. Really disappointed and let down, would not order again would not recommend.

The food portions are big and affordable.

Good sushi place, the tempura sushi is my favourite. Ordered through their website and collected in store rather quickly. Customer service was excellent. The restaurant environment is rather intimate. Immersive art on the wall brings an authentic experience.

I ordered a chicken tatsuta donburi with my meal and didn't receive it when I called up to see if they could send it out the girl said she put it in a different bag and her manager was not in the shop. When I asked for the head chef to see if they could help the girl refused 15 orders and how this was handled was awful. £35 worth of a meal turned in to just under £19.

I had a very lovely and extraordinary experience :-) Deliciously made and presented food :-) Staff are very kind and the atmosphere is so on point.

If I could give this place zero stars, I absolutely would. My partner and I came at 7.30 and we were looking forward to dinner as we ate here before, and the food was delicious but the service was a bit slow however we wanted to give it the benefit of doubt! We were seated first, but a table that came in 15 minutes after us was immediately served—starters and drinks delivered—while we were completely ignored. By 8 PM, we still hadn’t even ordered, and there were only 3 tables in the entire restaurant! When we finally got the chance to place our order, we waited another 30 mins and nothing not even drinks yet. We had enough and left as we were starving because we had a 2-hour drive home. We would have understood if it was busy however the restaurant was practically empty and the staff were just talking and washing glasses…This wasn’t just bad service, it was straight-up negligence and disrespect.

What a great find. We were in Belfast for the weekend and wanted to get some sushi whilst we were there. Googled it and Kamakura came up. It’s got a lovely atmosphere, the service was friendly and efficient and the food was lovely. Really well priced too. Would definitely go again if in Belfast.

Lovely restaurant with great food and service. The beef ramen was the best I've ever had! The only negative thing I can say is it seems everyone in the country has same idea as it's always busy. Make sure to get a booking!

Didn't expect this place to be good based on the photos in google review(can tell 100% not authentic) but didn't expect it to be that bad. Fiance wanted to give it a go so we went. The ramen was like a home made instant noodles but costs 18 pounds and the sushi.... the sushi rice was soooo wet like they don't even know how to cook rice properly. Don't get how they think they can put a high price tag on their food - not good at all so sorry to say. One good thing is, the place looks clean, but not the flowers on the plate with food which made me wonder if they re-use.....

We were in Belfast for one night and I really wanted some Japanese food. I googled and this place came out on top so. I had kimchi chicken ramen and my boyfriend had chicken teriyaki noodles. We also had some gyozas and I ordered some sushi but, that never arrived. The chicken was so dry, it was inedible. The ramen was ok but honestly, I can make better myself. My boyfriends chicken was just as dry but he did enjoy the noodles and sauce. The service wasn't great. The sushi was left on the bill even though it didn't come out so I asked for that to be removed. They didn't ask how the food was so I didn't bother telling them.

Managed to find me a table on a busy Friday night despite the fact I hadn’t booked and was on my own - a lot of other places wouldn’t do that! I’m so happy they did, the food came out fast and was just lovely, plus it was fairly priced. The staff were also lovely and attentive! Highly recommend.

Gran sushi. Probablemente el mejor de Irlanda. Los rollitos de sushi de pollo katsu tempura son los favoritos. Sin embargo, todo eso se estropeó cuando pedimos el postre. Pedimos el purina japonés, que es básicamente un flan europeo. Cuando lo sacaron, era un bloque de hielo. Claramente los congelan y descongelan cuando es necesario. Cuando le informé al gerente de esto se encogió de hombros y dijo “Así es como se supone que debe ser” de una manera bastante ovina. Era obvio que sabía que no estaban descongelados, pero decidió mentir y actuar como si no supiéramos de lo que estábamos hablando. Cuando éramos persistentes, fue a la cocina y envió al chef a hablar con nosotros. El chef, al igual que el gerente, no quiso admitir su error y también tomó la decisión de decir que así es como se supone que deben ser servidos. Sin embargo, rápidamente cambió de tono cuando se dio cuenta de que no podía sacarnos la lana de los ojos y finalmente se disculpó. Que es más de lo que hizo el gerente. El chef nos ofreció un poco de purina “blanda”, que rechazamos porque el postre ya estaba estropeado por el ambiente extremadamente tenso e incómodo que el gerente había creado. Momentos después, el gerente asomó la cabeza a la vuelta de la esquina y dijo “¿Quieres helado, gratis?”. Una vez más declinamos por las mismas razones que antes. Cuando fui a pagar la cuenta, el gerente la escondió debajo de un montículo de cecas y rápidamente se ocupó de preparar el lector de tarjetas. Por suerte, lo comprobé y todavía nos estaba cobrando por el postre que enviamos de vuelta! Cuando le hablé de esto se quejó y volvió a la registradora para quitar el postre del total sin tanto como un “lo siento”. Su actitud general hizo que pareciera que sentía que le estábamos robando dinero. Que solo éramos un inconveniente innecesario para su día. Francamente un individuo muy poco profesional. Una disculpa habría ido mucho más lejos que un postre “gratuito” (por el que aparentemente pretendía cobrarnos de todos modos). Los errores ocurren y es comprensible estar un poco avergonzado por enviar alimentos congelados, pero usted asume la responsabilidad por ello y ofrece una disculpa. No mientes y tratas a tu cliente como si fuera estúpido. ¿Regresaría? Si ¿Pediría postre? No ¿Necesita el gerente trabajar en su actitud? SÍ.

I think this place is hard to beat for both food (delicious) and service (wanted for nothing). Value for money was off the scale

This is a hidden gem. Hidden from the main street and an intimate atmosphere. The food is flavorful, and plenty. We ordered seafood soba and ramen which were very nice.

Went here for food, as I had been to the Kamakura on Newtownards road before I was excited to eat here but my hopes where to high. Before I say what I wasn't happy with I would like to thank the staff who where very kind and accommodating especially because we where a big group, the restaurant looked lovely and there was a nice atmosphere sad to say our experience was brought down by the food. I ordered the veggie ramen and it it was disappointing and flavourless, it was nothing like the ramen I had at the kamakura on the Newtonards road. Firstly Before I made my order I asked the waiter what sort of vegetables where in the broth... but he couldn't give me an answer and just pointed to the brief description on the menu. I think as a server in such a nice restaurant that is pricey you can atleast give some description of the food in detail. When I ordered the veggie ramen I was disappointed as it did not have much flavour, also it had no Asian vegetables.. looked like they just got a mixed bag of £1 veggies from Tesco and put it in the broth. The kamakura on Newtownards road definately has more Asian vegetables such as wood ear mushrooms and lots of other tasty vegetables things. The tofu was tasteless aswell. The rest of the table enjoyed their food, I guess it was the ramen that was a disappointment., it was just OK.

La comida era buena. Algunos obtuvieron la comida del menú, pero el pollo frito y no marinado como decía en el menú. El Ramen era excelente. Las cajas dobladas tenían una gran relación calidad-precio, pero el pollo adobado no estaba adobado, solo estaba frito en pan rallado y decepcionante como no en el menú. La mesa no estaba preparada, ni servilletas, ni cuchillos ni tenedores. Tuve que pedir agua cinco o seis veces. La orden no se tomó durante 20 minutos. Y el servicio muy malo. No volveríamos por el mal servicio, no por la comida. La comida era buena. Muy mal servicio, que decepcionó todo lo demás. No había nadie más a quien servir y tuve que pedir cuchillos y tenedores tres veces, la chica continuó montando otra mesa vacía. Muy decepcionado

Absolutely loved this place! I ordered the vegetarian ramen and it was perfect, the portion was huge and I felt bad that I couldn’t finish everything. Service was super friendly too

Been here many times and so disappointed in the service we had on Saturday night just passed. Main issue being that the restaurant was short staffed. Felt like one particular member of staff didn't have a clue what he was doing as well. Staff were getting frustrated with eachother. Had to ask for water multiple times. Had to ask for condiments multiple times (ended up asking the table next to us for theirs as we never got any)... my husband's food came out and I had to wait a further 10/15mins for SOME of my order. When i asked about the rest of my food the member of staff replied quite bluntly with "I don't know anything about that". When the rest of my order was eventually brought out (about another 10mins later), my items were doubled, moved off and on the table, then to another table that didnt order those items, then back to our table before they were corrected as to what we had actually ordered! No one cleared our table before we left. We had to go up to the till to ask for our bill and had we been asked how our meal went we would have told them then and there. I called on Sunday afternoon and was told someone would call me back before the end of the day. I also called on Tues (was also asked if I was complaining from a different table so clearly we weren't the only ones not happy!) as I hadn't heard from anyone and was told once again someone would call me back but same story. No returned phonecall. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. We've been here so many times before and could never flaw the food or the service, they were always so attentive. I understand being short staffed but when members of staff are visibly overwhelmed and frustrated with eachother it doesn't go unnoticed. Won't be back.

The food was unbelievable, I would travel to Belfast for this alone. The staff were super lovely and the presentation of everything was superb.

having an automatic 10% service charge and then asking for tip on top of that ruins it. pay your workers more

Today I got takeaway from this restaurant. The miso soup and the sushi was all Tokyo standard food. This was my first experience of the location, the staff were very friendly and I am going back once lockdown is over to sit in. amazing quality food. The quality of the seafood was superb. the menu is very impressive. Worth a visit definitely. The octopus was particularly nice as was the salmon. going to dine in tomorrow (Oct 2021), have reviewed the menu, and will post photos and comments tomorrow. based on the past, I am expecting a great meal Today, was excellent, the food and the staff were excellent. Both myself my friend really enjoyed the food. Superb Tempura and Raman. definitely going back. (14th Oct 2021) First visit of 2022, had an excellent meal and a great conversation with an authority on Japanese food. his summary was, the venue and the food was excellent and it reminded him of his home in the east Back in August 2024, I got the seafood ramen and the Japanese green tea, it was very fresh, the staff were very efficient and we had an outstanding time. Going back soon

Service terrible used to be good starters came out after they brought the mains I asked for a runny egg yolk and they brought out a hard I sent that back and hard again.

I don't know if they cater to desperate tourists who are tired of Irish food, or if this is a real representation of sushi in Northern Ireland. The staff was friendly but not competent. We had a reservation, and no one seemed to know where to put us. The hostess is also doing other things. They serve blended juice drinks, and every time someone orders one, they blend it in the small dining room so no one can hear anything. They only have three kinds of fish, and none of them are especially fresh or high quality, and the rice to fish ratio is way off--so much rice. They drenched my sushi roll in mayo that wasn't in the photo. They even put dollops of mayo on top of my rainbow roll, like that would somehow salvage that it wasn't rolled properly and that it counted avocado as one of the outer fish. The chicken in my daughter's ramen was woody and dry. Based on all the positive reviews, this may well be a representation of Belfast sushi--it certainly frightened me out of eating any further sushi anywhere else in town.

Food was quite traditional. Not alot of options for people who form eat seafood. But was good to try. Great presentation

Food is always good, but units have a different lunch menus layout which make me select incorrect plate. Attendent did not explain that bento box would be chicken or veg option. Donegal unit has a clear menu with photos.

Update 2-8-2024: Was in Belfast so I got a take away here. Something went wrong with the order so had to wait a little longer, but okay. Unfortunately all sushi rice was cooked way too far. Did not seem fresh. We had the eel and avocado and also the crab and king prawn. Kimchi and gyoza were nice enough. Threw away half the sushi. Not going here again :(. ——————————————————- Lovely hidden gem near the centre. Walked over there through a little sketchy neighborhood, but was delighted by the beautifully made up food and cocktails. I came in half an hour earlier than my reservation. Was after waiting 2 minutes escorted to a nice table. Portions are big so don't over order too much… that’s where I want wrong. With cocktails, water, beer and lovely food we spend around 80 pounds (excluding tip). Seasoning the sushi a bit more would make it a 5. The staff were all lovely and helpful. If back in Belfast will definitely visit again.

Don't expect authentic Japanese food. More like generic Asian food. Booked online the day before for dinner on 12Jul since many restaurants were closed that day- my booking was accepted but when we arrived it was closed . We went the following day as the reviews seemed good.

I advise you to look for another place for lunch or dinner, because the service is terrible, you had to ask for all the items, for example (when ordering we were asked about ginger and wasabi, I asked for it 3 times in about 15-20 minutes) and the third time they brought it out, in general, the service is terrible, need to change, I would not recommend eating here, but the food is ok.

We were in town for the weekend and visited this shop due to its high ratings here on google and we were honestly shocked by how poor the food and service was. Our table has no serving plates/chopsticks and the server seemed to be in no hurry to sort it out, when we asked for them he brought everyone forks? then a young lady came out of the back and immediately dressed the table, she said something to him and he just shrugged and went back to playing with his phone. The food was ok but honestly i dont get the high rating everyone gives it, it wasnt amazing, it was passable at best. If this is the best Belfast has to offer then im sorry for the locals as its rough.

This is my second time at karakura. It’s just excellent highly recommend. Love the sashimi, sushi and the ramen is enormous and delicious. I’d say it’s one of the best restaurants in Belfast ❤️

Horrendous service. Staff ignored us, and when we finally put our order in, we had to wait 30+ minutes to get it. People who had come in after us were served before us and within 10 minutes maximum. When the order finally came after us asking a few times about it, it was wrong. It was poorly presented in comparison to the food given to other customers and staff didnt bring us any additional condiments, as they did with other customers. We just ate it quickly, paid and told staff not to bother with drinks and the rest of our order. I can't stress it enough that 3 parties who came in after us, who ordered way more food than us, were served very quickly (drinks and food). Avoid this place like the plague, much better options elsewhere.

I really wanted to like this place, as I love me some good ramen, but good lord is this place both not good nor is it really ramen. It is more akin to a pho with instant noodles mixed in. I got the beef kimchi ramen thinking it would be some interesting combination they had workshoped, but it was actually spawned from a misunderstanding of the cuisine they were trying to mimic. My girlfriend got the Yasai Yaki Soba and it also used gross instant noodles and had more beansprouts than noodles. The sushi was fine but both of our stomachs are having issues the day after eating here. Do not go here expecting anything close to authentic Japanese food. Additionally, we made a reservation ahead of time which the manager struggled to find and would not seat us in a nearly empty restaurant until he could find it. There were 4 wait staff in there for 12 tables and we had only one check in from our wait staff. Go at your own risk.

The broth is ok and the vegetables are very fresh. Not exactly a traditional Japanese ramen but this kind of thing is very common in Western world anyway. It is a nice noodles of its own category. The chicken breast is sad though, but to be fair chicken breast is most of the time sad.

We stayed in Belfast for 2 nights as we were trading in Q-con. I looked up places for Ramen and this place came up first. I seen the rating and I was like it can be true... But surprisingly.. it is. It deserves 5 stars. The sushi was really nice and fresh! And we were surprised the portions were big! I barely could finish my bowl of ramen🍜. I had the vegetarian one and omg it was the best soup I've ever had. Tofu was exquisite!!! For dessert I had purin and it was delicious, so was the Mochi. We were impressed by the food and we would definitely come back. It was a bit pricey but it was worth it.

Absolutely lovely spot for lunch, their lunch menu being excellent with a good choice of dishes. Staff are excellent, attentive and pleasant. Service is quick and meals arrive quickly.

Excellent food, but really bad service. We booked for 7.15 and the table wasn't ready, the food was excellent too bad we waited 45 minutes for a portion of rolls. Waiters who didn't know what to do. But the food was decent

¡Eviten a toda costa! Nunca escribo críticas, pero este lugar era tan malo que tuve que advertir a otros. Fui el domingo con mi pareja e hijos. Pedimos ramen de pollo kimichi, el pollo no estaba cocinado fresco y estaba seco como el infierno, el peor de todos, fue como tratar de tragarse un calcetín seco. Los calamares tempura, con la membrana no retirada, casi se ahogan dos veces. Una selección de rollos de sushi todos directamente fuera de la nevera del día anterior. goyza albóndigas de cerdo mitad frío medio caliente. los niños tenían fideos udon y pollo, de nuevo pollo más seco que el desierto del Sahara. Es una broma que este lugar tenga tan buenas críticas debe ser su amigo y familia publicando reseñas o el club de fans de pollo seco , quién sabe. Si usted paga precios en dólares superiores y consigue comida en dólares inferiores. hágase un favor e ir a otro restaurante japonés, definitivamente no vamos a estar cerca de él de nuevo. Se le ha advertido.

Booking essential. Super fast service. Had Salmon Sashimi and Seafood Ramen upon waiter recommendation. Sushi was fresh and really big portion. Seafood ramen was tasty, had squid, egg, prawns. Salmon pieces were interesting interpretation (battered, leading to soggy texture whilst in soup), but nonetheless delicious. 21 May 2024: consistently excellent, had kimchi ramen, flavorful, tender beef brisket. Ace 😍

Although not authentic Japanese, the food was quite good. Unfortunately though the service was terrible - they took down an order for the wrong ramen, brought out the wrong dish and then forgot my miso soup and the egg in my boyfriend’s ramen. Also it would be helpful if seasonal vegetables were specified on the menu as I’m pregnant and the ramen ended up coming out with bean sprouts which I’m not supposed to eat while pregnant.

Disappointed with the food , I reckon it’s a Chinese restaurant trying to imitate Japanese food. Dish I went for had beans sprout. Broccoli, peppers and mushrooms. Veggies you would find in a stir fry not in Japanese cuisine . Food wasn’t authentic at all . Also overpriced for what it was .

This is the best sushi in Belfast. Since there was no room, we took them with us and even when they cooled down a little they were delicious. Very friendly staff. Fast service.

Honestly the service was not that great which is a shame because this was a small place and there are like 5 waiters in there for 15 tables. The food was pretty okay. Not too great to be honest. The seaweed salad had the normal seaweed on top with some other type below it, which was not great. The sushi itself was not the greatest cuts, the tuna was not tender really, which was weird and the rice to filling ratio was not great, as you can see in the picture. The sake was decent, not great not bad. I don't know if there are a lot of sushi options in Belfast, but this didn't really hit the mark for me.

Fabulous food and service we found this restaurant whilst out on a trip ! The decor is stunning the girl front of house so pleasant and helpful ! Delicious stir fry and curry !! Gorgeous tempura chicken rolls !! Nothing not to like !! Thanks chef !!

Kimchi chicken ramen is the nicest ramen I've tried anywhere in Belfast

This is the first time I am trying Japanese cuisine. Despite not being exceptional, it was an enjoyable experience. The appetizer particularly impressed me. Service was decent and quite helpful. They have a nice ambiance. Drinks and food were well presented.

Kamakura Sushi & Ramen: Where the portions are bigger than your hopes for flavor! If you've got a stomach as deep as the Pacific Ocean and taste buds in hibernation, this place is your jackpot. But if you're seeking taste, prepare for a flavorless beef ramen that'll leave you contemplating the meaning of spice.

One waiter told us our table was ready and started taking us there and someone else (their manager I think) told us to stop and started questioning our reservation. The table was given away to a random group and we had to wait an extra 20 minutes for the next one. When they showed us to the table, they hadn’t cleaned it up yet and we sat there with the cleaning supplies on the table. We never got an explanation for anything but from what I could tell, the people waiting outside possibly had an earlier reservation. The staff should have just explained that to us though. Food was amazing and saved the experience.

Food is great but the service is appalling. If they get your order correct it’s slow to come out. Waited over 30 minutes for food to come out. Waited another 20 minutes and went to ask where the rest was. Turned out the order wasn’t relayed to the kitchen. Told them to just bring the bill and forget about it. Will think long and hard about going back.

A bit cold inside in the winter months. Food was great. You should definitely visit this place!!!

Upon arrival we did not pass judgement on the condition, size or decor of the place. Based on the reviews we were prepared to give it a chance. The furniture is quite uncomfortable as they are little stools with no back support. We ordered maki, hosmaki, edamame and maki udon noodles. The portions were plentiful and we were offered a take away for the remainder. The maki was quite thick with rice which made it difficult to eat. Nothing bad, nothing outstanding, just fairly basic for the expense and effort to travel there.

Nice food! Katsu kare was really yummy and very good size portion. Also the tuna was very tasty.

Wow!! Amazing! Portions are huge, service was brilliant & food was stunning

All my food went to waste. You didn't not mention the food was wrapped with plastic because the bag inside was broken. Once I removed the plastic al my food was wasted on the ground.

All was great but seats were cramped. Just a little more room would have been great.

Food is great!! The serving comes fast and big. Staff are nice and accommodating especially Dave. Totally worth it 😊

actually so delicious, amazing beef ramen

One of the food runners was rushing and ended up spilling soy sauce on me. Tofu dish wasn’t seasoned. Vegetarian sushi not as great. Felt rushed from the moment we sat down by the server telling us we only had an hour. Overall not a great experience.
