2021: Basically the same as the slug that was there previously, same tripe music, I wouldn't bother going. 2024 update: Seems to have improved since, ended having quite a good evening. Unnecessarily expensive though.

Bad delivery experience, spaghetti meatball overcooked and strange spice tasty. The Tiramisu is industrial frozen, arrived home still frozen!! Definitely This is not an Italian restaurant

We were very excited to find Coco di Mama in Epsom as we love Italian and we particularly love carbonara and we hadn’t tried or heard of them before. We ordered the feed 2 for £20 deal which we thought was excellent value and which includes 2 mains and then a side and a dessert to share (this was a home delivery via a third party delivery service and the deal may not be offered if you go direct). We both had the Grande Gorgonzola & Ham Hock Carbonara and you can choose the topping so I had Truffle Oil and my partner had Gran Formaggio cheese. We shared the Rosemary and Sea Salt Chips and then the Biscoff Bomboloni Trio. To the mains, the portion sizes were very good indeed and they were actually quite tasty but it was very difficult to spot the ham hock as it was virtually non-existent. Also and we hadn’t realised this but the pasta is penne which on reflection, we think is a bit of an odd choice for carbonara. In fact, writing this the next day and having reviewed the menu again, EVERY pasta dish is penne and there’s simply no other choice. So basically, it’s a conveyor belt of penne with different toppings meaning their model is more about efficiency than quality, and it shows. The truffle sauce was certainly noticeable and pleasant but actually, the gran formaggio worked better. To the side dish, and I appreciate chips aren’t Italian and not the main event, but if you’re going to offer rosemary and sea salt chips, then you should really consider actually adding rosemary and sea salt. The portion was tiny and there was absolutely no evidence of rosemary or sea salt. Looking at the menu again now, the picture of the lovely looking skinny chips covered in rosemary and sea salt was nothing like the handful of chips that were delivered to us and which were fat, devoid of any rosemary or sea salt and were very obviously out of a frozen packet. For the dessert, the 3 bombolonis were relatively small and quite uneventful. This Epsom restaurant wasn’t listed on TA so we started this listing and as we did, we realised the address was shared with another restaurant (we had to edit this review as when we named it, the review was rejected) but after a bit of Googling, we found that there are at least 3 chain restaurant brands owned by the same company. This isn’t a bad thing as a company is allowed to diversify of course but operating out of the same building and as a conveyor belt operation really speaks volumes. In summary, the restaurant doesn’t really deserve a bad rating as if you’re looking for value to fill you up and you just don’t care, then this will tick all the boxes but if you’re looking for quality and don’t really want to say “oh” when you see the lack of ham, the ridiculously small portion of frozen chips (not as advertised) and the underwhelming dessert, then go elsewhere. At best, this place is average and that’s actually being quite generous.
