I'm so sorry. I just have to say this. This was an awful dining experience. I sat down and waited Fifteen minutes for anybody to come over to ask me if I even wanted a drink. Nobody came so I went to the bar to ask. Sorted. The waiter came over to me immediately. I had a vibe that he wasn't happy with me. I told him what I wanted but he was clearly not listening as he came back to me a few minutes later with a notepad and took my order again properly. Ok, the starter was nice. The dish I ordered was Mildly Spicy on your menu and what I ate felt like Vindaloo. Absolute agony. I'm not that good with such levels of heat. It was physically painful. On top of that, as you apologised later, I found a piece of plastic in my dish. I almost swallowed it. No compensation offered. I mean... It's not a huge deal for me but it could be for somebody less kind. Speaking of kind. A SINGLE smile towards me would really make me feel more welcome. It really felt odd sitting there, having a waiter that seemed upset with me and no nice interaction with any staff. You clearly have decent reviews so I'll say this was a one off, but I had a very negative experience and I'll be eating elsewhere next time. Sorry.

Beautiful place. Shame About the rest!! We rarely get out without kids and my gosh was I glad the kids weren’t there. As a grown adult I do not mind waiting a little on a main course but this was Joke. Starters were fab but the main Course was majorly delayed and the portions tiny. 4 pieces of meat per dish. Perfect for a small child…adult meal nope. Shockingly over priced. Such a pity as the staff were so nice and helpful. The atmosphere 10/10. Newry NEEDS a place like this but just level up and get your act together. Veggie dish was Shocking too. Froozen NOT fresh veg (for £13 a dish) Nann terrible. Clearly not home made. So disappointed.

So didn’t have a booking but turned up at 8.30pm. Was told it would be mains only, which was fine as we were in a hurry and starving. The restaurant was pretty empty and also very cold . Felt as though the heating was broken. Food came out particularly quickly which was the first red flag. Rice and sauce luke warm at best, but the most disappointing thing was the very tough hard blocks of chicken. Was with a new colleague so didn’t want to create a fuss at the time but half way through we both acknowledged that the dishes were not to standard . The server had not returned to check on us after leaving the plates so neither of us could complain at the time . We ate most of it cause we were on the go all day without anything to eat . The server then returned to ask if everything was ok, we raised our concerns by way of giving some constructive feedback and off he went to fetch the owner. We didn’t wait and proceed to the till to pay, I paid £57.35 for 2 mains 2 rice 2 naan and 2 drinks. I never questioned paying because I ate most of it. However, the most shocking treatment then occurred with the owner. We told him about our experience of luke warm food and tough chicken and he basically told us you should have complained at the time. Now considering I had already paid my bill, I wasn’t looking a refund. I then got told about how he was in business 30 years and had multiple restaurants and that everything they cook is fresh. I’m sorry our dishes were not fresh tonight. As someone who eats out regularly I very rarely need to complain but this place totally let themselves down this evening and I will certainly not be back .

I agree with Frankm’s view. The couple who run it do work hard and are always courteous but to be honest the flavours don’t wow. We usually go for chicken tikka nan kebabs, but really only if we are stuck. The fact is I can buy M&S chicken biryani, their finest chicken tikka masala, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and non breads and rustle up bloody good chicken tikka nans at home. There’s three bonuses doing it this way - one, and most important, the food actually tastes better, two and almost as important, we know what’s in it and there’s no crap or artificial colours etc and third it’s cheaper. The one thing I can’t reconcile with all our Bangladeshi restaurants in the city is that they’ve pitched their main meals at top dollar prices but this is not reflected in the quality, portion size or the taste of the food. The fact is I had enough of crap Bangladeshi food some time back and the nickel and dimeing by Spice of India. The chap in there can nickel and dime like the best of them. The Water Street place put me off for life in this city. Our response - if we want a good ‘Indian’ meal we go to Indian Ocean Glengormley (they’ve also places in Hollywood & Carrickfergus) or Bengal Brasserie Lisburn Road Belfast as a second choice. Fact is while both places are a bit more expensive the quality in these places is so many, many times better. Our Bangladeshi restauranteurs would do well to buy a take away from Indian Ocean - Match the quality there. Match the price too and business will flow. Quality will always out.
